As a nation sat agape at Casey Anthony being found not guilty of killing her young daughter Caylee, many in the media who had no public doubt of her guilt railed against the jury. But as Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher explained to host BC Thomas on WBGN’s The Sports Guys, the legal burden of proof for murder is far higher than the standards required of responsible journalism.

Texas Governor Rick Perry seems to have a bit of a Charlie Crist problem, at least according to this week’s Politico article drumming up old rumors that the potential 2012 Republican candidate may be gay. The article is already on the lips of several political commentators, notable liberal talk radio host Stephanie Miller, who wondered whether Rush Limbaugh‘s support would dwindle if rumors were true. The comment landed her in hot water with conservatives, naturally, who turned the spotlight on her own sexuality and her choice to bring up Perry’s.

In the early days of the Greek tragedy now known as “Weinergate,” many wondered whether the scandalous photo tweeted from Rep. Anthony Weiner‘s account were actually of the Congressman’s genital region. While, by his own admission, the possibility that it was anyone else was slain a week ago, some still have their doubts: mainly radio host Mark Levin, who told Don Imus today that he wasn’t entirely sure the photo wasn’t of President Barack Obama.

Laura Ingraham made her first television appearance after Ed Schultz‘s long, somewhat gut-wrenching apology, and, as she did on her radio show earlier, she graciously accepted the apology– even going as far as inviting detractors to “tease me in a humorous fashion,” but not to be nasty. But while she kept the spotlight straight on Schultz, Bill O’Reilly saw his suspension as indicative that the new sheriff in town at MSNBC– Comcast– was cleaning house.

Americans are an enterprising people, one that have managed to find fashion inspiration in the most peculiar of places. On Rush Limbaugh‘s radio show this week, one such American called in to ask Limbaugh what to do about the fact that her skin tone didn’t take very well to the color orange, and to offer some free advice to First Lady Michelle Obama: yellow makes her look “like a tub of mustard.”

Rush Limbaugh doesn’t seem to support Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, but he’s getting dangerously close to endorsing his UN-sanctioned actions against civilians. Expressing concerns about the possible successors to Gaddafi, Limbaugh noted that much of the opposition to Gaddafi in America is a “leftist position” that “any rebel is an oppressed minority,” even if they are “the worst scum on earth.”

It’s not often you catch political pundits engaging in the equivalent of barroom brawls on live radio, but Florida conservative talk show host Ted Webb couldn’t help himself with guest Ron Reagan and promised the former first son a fair beating should they see each other in person for what he wrote about his father, President Ronald Reagan. The younger Reagan actually accepts, and it takes the intervention of co-host Jack Harris to bring down the temperature.

The political rhetoric debate that has arisen in light of the likely schizophrenia-induced Arizona massacre this weekend has led to a whole lot of line-drawing on what media personalities can and cannot say. That doesn’t mean that some haven’t been immediately– and egregiously– crossing them. Take Columbia University professor Marc Lamont Hill, who called for rhetoric to be toned down nearly in the same breath as calling Barack Obama a “murderer.”

Chris Wallace has better things to talk about than whether a private institution chooses to put a Christmas tree in its lobby, much to the chagrin of radio host Mike Gallagher. The Fox News Sunday host visited his program on Friday in the hopes of discussing hard politics and, in being roped into discussing the “war on Christmas,” became irritated at Gallagher, debunking the claim that the holiday is under attack and becoming exasperated with the topic quickly.

For a primetime Fox News anchor whose rhetoric is as sharp as his ideology is rigid, Sean Hannity seemed to avoid the intra-media crossfire quite handily. Sure, he’ll get a stab here, a “Worst Persons” there, but rarely does he get into long-term feuds or become the subject of an energetic campaign against him. Herein a clip that could change that all, should Hannity take the bait: Ed Schultz steps up to bat with a montage of Hannity clips to boil the blood of any dyed-in-the-wool liberal.

Breaking: Sarah Palin has said something negative about the media. Today, the ex-governor chatted with the hosts of Anchorage’s Bob & Mark Morning Show—and, sure enough, the talk soon turned to the mean old people of the press. Specifically, Palin was discussing former Mediaite contributor John Ziegler‘s documentary, Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted.

MSNBC’s new “Lean Forward” campaign is large enough, bold enough, and the subject of just enough publicity to be the object of consistent ridicule from the right. We’ve seen the parodies, the defiant counter-ads, and now Glenn Beck has taken it upon himself to improve upon the original slogan, suggesting: “MSNBC: Bend Over” because, he explains, “I think it would be more appropriate.”

There comes a point when listening to Rush Limbaugh that one wonders how people like Jon Stewart stay in the business of satire when it’s impossible to parody the real thing This one takes a little bit of work to keep up with, but it ends with “fallen angel” Harry Reid squaring off with “Imam Obamadinejad,” so the topic seems to be fairly plausible Election Day predictions.

As of yesterday’s program, Rush Limbaugh hasn’t said something questionable in… three days an hour or so. This, of course, was highly problematic, especially given that all his material lately has been so Obama-centric. But luckily, it’s October– Breast Cancer Awareness month! Or as Limbaugh sees it, prime time to highlight the outrageous “invasion” of women into “virtually everything”– from country clubs to sports to, in the future… prostate exams?

As TV Newser notes, this morning, Glenn Beck revealed on his radio show that he is taking time off next week to undergo medical tests. Beck’s website gives a few more details.

Last night on his TV show, Glenn Beck called Charles Darwin “the father of modern-day racism.” He didn’t really elaborate on that, and got the compulsory complaints. So today on his radio program, he gave evidence to back up that claim, and gave Darwin a new title: the “Father of the Holocaust.” His co-hosts disagreed; he was probably more of a “great-uncle.”

The biggest summer for racial tension since 1994 continues, this time with a strange, n-word-laden rant from what has been typically perceived as a fairly innocuous source: Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Speaking to a black caller who called for advice on handling racial tensions with her white husband, Dr. Laura uses the offensive word eleven times and ultimately tells the caller that if she doesn’t “have a sense of humor,” she should not “marry out of your race.”

If Sarah Palin wanted to know the way Glenn Beck must have felt when she commented that him being on her 2012 campaign ticket would be a “hoot,” there’s a chance she might understand now. Bizarre viral video candidate for Tennessee governor Basil Marceaux continued making the rounds in the mainstream media today with an interview with Beck, where he said he would consider running for president if Palin was on his ticket.

Happy Birthday, President Obama! Tomorrow, our 44th president turns 49, and Rush Limbaugh would really love to wish him many happy returns, sincerely. Actually, that’s not true: This morning, Limbaugh refused to send good wishes to the President, because he doesn’t believe tomorrow is his birthday, since “we haven’t seen any proof of that.”

Yesterday on Fox News, New York Congressmen Anthony Weiner and Peter King did battle over the passing of a bill to aid 9/11 first-responders that developed health problems. Even with discussion moderated by a fairly silent, impartial Bill Hemmer– who piped up mostly to point out that everyone hates Congress– it got pretty heated. Now imagine that same conversation with Sean Hannity as host.

On his radio program yesterday, Rush Limbaugh took a segment to sing the praises of the recently deceased George Steinbrenner, a “cracker who made a lot of African-American millionaires.” It didn’t take long for Al Sharpton to call for an apology and liberal websites to go on the offensive, and now Limbaugh tells Yahoo! News’ Michael Calderone that the fact that he is being attacked for this is a sign of “how bad things are for the left.”

CNN host Rick Sanchez took a stab at the talk radio world he used to call home yesterday, questioning why many Americans believe in economic conservatism. Attacking “these guys on talk radio” for promoting the lowering of taxes on the wealthy, he later asked guest Georgia Tech Professor Danny Boston whether he was frustrated by radio hosts “who don’t even have a college degree” weighing in on this issue.

Coming off the heels of the successful launch of Glenn Beck University, Glenn Beck is ready to continue using his honorary Ph.D. from Liberty University for good, this time tackling the medical field with a new project he calls “Beck Hospital.” “It’s mainly a surgery center,” he explained, one that Beck is completely qualified to run because, again, he is a doctor.

A radio station in Utah run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will no longer air the nationally syndicated Sean Hannity Show beginning this October. While the station announced that the decision had to do with the cultivation of local programming, the local ABC affiliate is reporting that questions about the program’s civility were circulating recently before the decision.

After the bizarre National Enquirer story claiming Al Gore got inappropriately frisky with a masseuse in 2006 hit the mainstream, it wasn’t hard to imagine what the former Vice President and his wife, Tipper, felt about the headlines. Or at least it wasn’t hard to imagine for Glenn Beck and his radio team, who got an “exclusive” interview with the Gores (as portrayed by his on-air sidekicks Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere).
