The Senate, led my efforts from the office of Sen. Joe Lieberman, may call on Twitter to ban accounts run by Taliban officers and supports in Afghanistan from disseminating anti-NATO information. According to the UK Telegraph, Sen. Lieberman– who worked to have al-Qaeda projects banned from Google as well– has contacted the social network’s leaders in an effort to remove accounts that promote and celebrate Taliban attacks on NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Several weeks after his father, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, was captured and killed by rebel forces attempting to leave the nation he governed for more than forty years, his son and heir, Saif al-Islam, was found attempting to flee to Niger yesterday and taken to the northern town of Zintan. Today, video has surfaced of the younger Gaddafi being transported by the airplane, while the interim leader of the country promised a fair trial for crimes against humanity.

America’s pundit class hasn’t quite finished talking about Newsweek‘s “intense” cover photo of Rep. Michele Bachmann, but it’s already safe to say the UK Telegraph has found a way to grossly (trust us) outdo it. In a scathing look at the Iowa State Fair that makes it sound part Rome during Lupercalia, part French Revolution mobbery, the Telegraph decided to run a somewhat blurry photo of Rep. Bachmann, mid blink, chomping on a corn dog.

Sky News is reporting that British singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her apartment in London. While long known to have struggled with alcoholism and substance abuse, authorities do not yet know what killed her. She was 27 years old.

And now it’s officially summer. Remember sexy Russian spy Anna Chapman? No? She got caught spying on America and was deported, but because she was “sexy,” Joe Biden wanted to trade Rush Limbaugh for her. She was also semi-naked a bunch of times. Anyway, she’s finally wheedled her way back into the post-Weinerpocalypse news cycle– this time for threatening to sue organizers of the “Silver Boot” awards in Moscow, who graciously lauded her in the “Shameless Self-Promotion” category.

Yesterday a Belgium court sentenced schoolteacher Els Clottemans to 30 years for murdering her romantic rival by sabotaging her parachute, ending a bizarre and fascinating saga of love, murder, and skydiving.

Clottemans, who was diagnosed by a court psychiatrist as psychopathic, narcissistic and manipulative, had been dating Marcel Somers, a Dutch skydiving teacher. Somers was also seeing Els Van Doren, who was married to a Flemish jeweler. In 2006, all three were members of an East Flanders parachuting club.

The American media been unequivocal in condemning BP CEO Tony Hayward for everything from his negligence and insensitive comments, but on the other side of the pond, it has been a little more difficult to disown a man who was once their geological boy genius with a “disarming smile” set to save one of the nation’s greatest companies from an administration wrought with ethical breaches.

The Consumer Electronics Show — “CES” to its friends — will be going down in Vegas starting on January 7th. Despite the three days’ wait, tech blogs are buzzing with expectation. But the informed and the wildly speculating seem to be in agreement on one thing: tablets will be a hot commodity at this year’s CES.

Last night, hackers tampered with a website affiliated with Rupert Murdoch‘s Sky News, putting a big, smilin’ Murdoch atop the site and changing a caption from “The Leaders’ Debate Petition” to “The Windbag Debate Petition.”
