In teasing The Ed Show‘s nightly “Psycho Talk” segment, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz challenged Mediaite and Politico to demand a correction from Rush Limbaugh and Fox’s Sean Hannity, presumably with the same volume we highlighted Schultz’s edit of Gov. Rick Perry‘s “big black cloud” remark. According to Schultz, Hannity and Limbaugh each recently misstated the unemployment rate that President Obama inherited from President George W. Bush. Fair enough, let’s take a look.

GOP hopeful Gov. Rick Perry drew fire from some quarters earlier over a remark, reported by ABC News’ The Note blog, that “a ‘big black cloud’ hangs over the country.”

As it turns out, Perry’s remark was much more specific. While he did use the phrase “big black cloud,” he was referring explicitly to the debt, as the full video of Perry’s remark reveals.

Rep. Michele Bachmann is facing the beginnings of what may be the defining scandal of her campaign as more information comes to the fore on her husband’s mental health clinic, which patients therein are now claiming engages in “gay reparative therapy,” a discredited method by which some believe homosexuality can be “cured” away. Tonight, Ed Schultz spoke to an activist that went undercover and asked for the therapy at the clinic, and he classified what he received as “dangerously archaic.”

It was always an obvious reality that Keith Olbermann‘s Current TV show would experience some degree of crossover with MSNBC’s prime-time programming, but any hope of a peaceful rivalry have evaporated, as Olbermann has made it clear he intends to go after his former employer’s audience by going after his former employer. The fact that Olbermann has opted to “go negative” so early (his show hasn’t even premiered yet) portends a bloody battle for the hearts and minds of liberal viewers.

The establishment of Current TV as a destination for liberal news programming doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing for MSNBC. There are, apparently, millions of liberals who aren’t watching cable news, and this represents an opportunity for both channels to attract a new audience.

MSNBC’s Ed Schultz, suspended by MSNBC Wednesday evening for calling conservative radio host Laura Ingraham a “right-wing slut” on his nationally syndicated radio show, addressed his comments on the final Ed Show episode before beginning what was to be week-long suspension. In a remarkably fulsome and sincere apology, though, Schultz announced that he was taking himself off the air for an “indefinite” period.

You may recall that, last Friday, Bill Maher invited MSNBC host Ed Schultz and former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele onto his show to yell over one another as viewers clapped in delight discuss proposed Medicare vouchers.

On his program, Schultz kept that discussion going.

It seems that Libya, Egypt, and Wisconsin may not be the only places where President Obama will need to address a full-on revolt– he’s losing major points with the hosts of MSNBC. First it was Cenk Uygur who took him out to dry for his silence on the Wisconsin union protests, and now Ed Schultz is demanding nothing less than a road trip, though he has the 2008 campaign trail soundbites to back up why he’s being demanding.

These out-of-left-field (politically as well as figuratively) labor protests in Wisconsin have brought out the weird in cable news. Glenn Beck retreated to his studio to study the rise of the Antichrist; Rachel Maddow retreated to hers to warn viewers of the shocking truth that people may hold different beliefs on the matter. Meanwhile, her colleague Ed Schultz grabbed the first flight over to revel with the union protesters and, amid cheers and chants, interview an old familiar face on the situation– Jesse Jackson.

Newly-elected Ohio Governor John Kasich (R-OH) has been the subject of considerable outrage over his appointment of an all-white cabinet. the first in Ohio since 1962. Kasich recently responded to Ohio Black Legislative Caucus treasurer state Sen. Nina Turner‘s (D-OH) offer to assist him in building a more diverse cabinet by saying “I don’t need your people.”

When the shooting began in Tucson, Joe Zamudio was there, in a store buying cigarettes. He heard the shots, and decided to act. Also, he was armed are ready to use his weapon to try and save lives. On MSNBC’s The Ed Show, Zamudio told host Ed Schultz he had no hesitation whatsoever about using the weapon he carries every day. “I had my hand on the butt of my pistol and I clicked the safety off and I was ready to kill him.”

Ed Schultz devoted his “Psycho Talk” segment today to Dana Perino, former White House Press secretary under George W. Bush, and what he saw as her misguided views on an unusual topic: lightbulbs. If you never expected a news show to devote a segment to fact-checking statements about lightbulbs…well, join the club, though it did allow for several light-related puns.

Arlen Specter 30+ years serving his home state of Pennsylvania as a U.S. Senator is coming to an end, and he did is not going out quietly. Yesterday he gave what some are calling “his closing argument” on the Senate floor, criticizing a number of Washington D.C. institutions, including the Supreme Court. But his biggest target was his former GOP constituents (he switched to the Democratic party in the twilight of his political career) who he likened to “sophisticated cannibals” for their lack of support in recent primary battles.

Remember junior high? How the punky kids would always go out of their way to poke and tease the kid who really just wanted to do his homework and otherwise be left alone? Watching political “Rapid Fire” segments on MSNBC’s Ed Show with Ron Christie sure seem a lot like those junior high cafeteria moments, and Christie may be the guy getting punked.

Ed Schultz was filling in for Rachel Maddow last night, and brought his entire Ed Show with him. He also has on as guest Reverend Al Sharpton to discuss plans to take on Rush Limbaugh, and his alleged racist talk over publicly regulated airwaves. Yes, Sharpton announced planning meetings with the FCC to discuss in an effort to regulate Limbaugh’s inflamatory rhetoric. Shots fired! One can only imagine how Rush will respond to Mr. Sharpton later today.

News broke yesterday that Nigeria plans to file bribery charges against officials from several foreign companies, including most notably, former Vice President Dick Cheney, culminating in an arrest warrant being transmitted via Interpol. This was the topic of discussion today on MSNBC’s The Ed Show , with liberal commentator and former Air America host Lionel and Republican strategist Ron Christie , who went at it at level that is rare for even cable news programming.

Earlier today, Ed Schultz continued his epic battle of words against Glenn Beck. Schultz had previously claimed that he could easily get his own rally with 300,000 people and Beck had responded that might want to try and get 300,000 viewers in the demo first. Today, Schultz countered that Beck can’t get that many in the demo either since all of his fans are way too old.

New York Post‘s Page Six reports the MSNBC host, whose 6pmET show features a segment called “Psycho Talk,” had an epic meltdown earlier this month after being left out of MSNBC promos about the election coverage.

Ed Schultz wants to be clear. He is NOT running for office. But if he were a Senator, he “would be absolutely screaming in front of every camera (he) could find,” apparently to rally support for extending unemployment benefits. For if they aren’t extended, according to the MSNBC host, America is likely to become a third world country. Oh, annd he lays the blame at the feet of his compatriot Democrats. Say what?

No one should ever confuse Ed Schultz with an objective news anchor (except when he fills in during MSNBC news hours, I guess) but yesterday’s hyperbolically absurd segment bashing Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann (the “psycho-sisters,” as he casually called them) stood out.

It would just be another cable news talker doing what he does best – if not for the presence of an interview with a Bachmann Congressional challenger right in the middle.

In a speech at Minnesota progressive talk radio AM950’s Blue State Bash, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz pulled back the curtain on an off-camera exchange he had with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. The host of The Ed Show says Gibbs dropped an “F-bomb” on him, but only after Schultz launched an “S-rocket” of his own. At issue was whether or not the White House fought hard enough for a public option, and whether Gibbs could re-train Schultz’s sights on the real enemy.

On radio’s The Ed Schultz Show yesterday, the MSNBC host seemed to be feeling the heat of the impending Massachusetts election to fill the Senate seat of the late Ted Kennedy. Tuesday’s tight race — between Democract and state attorney general Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown — threatens a Senate seat that has belonged to a Democrat for over half a century. It clearly has Schultz feeling a bit antsy, as he spoke on his Friday show. “If I lived in Massachusetts, I’d try to vote ten times,” Schultz said.

Senator Alan Grayson continued to play the part last night while guesting on The Ed Show. What part, you ask? Well, for fans of his on the left, he’s a hero for calling out conservative leadership (in particularly Vice President Dick Cheney.) For his detractors on the right, he’s a villain for coarsening the discussion and over-the-top rhertoric — like wondering aloud if Satan himself is writing the introduction to Cheney’s coming memoir. But last night, in an interview with Democratic Rep. Barney Frank, things got heated as the pair debated Wall Street bonuses.

Last night on The Ed Show, Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitas and former Colorado congressman and Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo faced off on health care reform. But a personal blow from Moulitas about Tancredo’s deferment from Vietnam due to depression caused the politician to tear his microphones off and leave the show.
