Fresh off his endorsement of Republican hopeful Mitt Romney, real estate mogul Donald Trump appeared on CNN’s The Situation Room and faced tough questioning from anchor Wolf Blitzer. Blitzer cited a CNN poll that showed high disapproval ratings for Trump, asking “Is this going to help Mitt Romney — your endorsement or hurt Mitt Romney?”

Ever since a New York magazine cover story ran in late October, it was only a matter of time before cable news caught up with a potentially catastrophic angle to Mitt Romney‘s presidential campaign. The feature length article portrayed Romney as part of “the 1%” who made much of his wealth came as a result of Bain Capital’s company re-orgs…that reportedly led to a great number of job losses. With the Iowa caucus just a week away, it was only a matter of time before this story got the cable news Klieg lights.

Ron Paul walked out of an interview with CNN’s Gloria Borger following a heated exchange over the controversy of racist newsletters sent in his name during the 1990s. Borger asked the Congressman if he had ever read the newsletters. “Did you ever object when you read them?”

With the Iowa caucus just scant two weeks away, tensions are running high. During a campaign appearance at a grocery store yesterday, on-again, off-again GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich was approached by a seemingly innocuous supporter, who instead turned out to be something of pretty vocal critic. The grinning man got Gingrich’s attention with “You know something?” before following with “you’re a f*cking a**hole.”

In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on The Situation Room Thursday, Donald Trump was flummoxed that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney turned down the invitation to his debate. “I was surprised because as you know, he wants my endorsement very, very badly. He was very nice, he called me but I was surprised. If I was losing in the polls, I wouldn’t be saying no to anybody.”

Following a Jack Cafferty report that claimed more than half of US workers have less than $25,000 in their savings accounts, The Situation Room‘s Wolf Blitzer curiously exclaimed, “Homeless shelters, get ready!”

It turns out that Texas Gov. Rick Perry doesn’t just have trouble remembering lists of three. In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Wednesday afternoon, the forgetful former frontrunner had trouble remembering just one conservative website, the Michelle Malkin-founded, Ed Morrissey-run Hot Air. Discussing a possible path to victory in Iowa, Perry told Blitzer he had seen a poll “off the internet. I think ‘Hot Gas’ was the site.”

CNN contributor Donna Brazile predicted the salacious new allegations against Herman Cain of an adulterous affair with Ginger White would severely impact the former Godfather Pizza CEO’s chances at the nomination. The Situation Room‘s Wolf Blitzer asked the Democratic strategist if he could survive the latest accusations. “The Herman Cain train will continue to make stops all along the country but fewer and fewer passengers will get on board,” Brazile said. “They clearly don’t want to be on a rocky train ride with someone with an unproven record and people don’t really know who the real Herman Cain is. The American people will forgive, but they won’t forget.”

Viewers of CNN’s The Situation Room this afternoon may have noticed that something sort of strange happened at the end of the first of two segments in which Wolf Blitzer interviewed former GOP frontrunner Herman Cain. The host told his television audience that CNN now had “Breaking News” (complete with graphics package), but that they wouldn’t share it until after the commercial break. After car insurance and other unmemorable ads ran, Blitzer came back (now with breaking news audio as well), and Cain announced news of a forthcoming allegation. In some worlds, this would be known as “owning it.”

Are GOP presidential candidates committing treason by openly discussing covert operations in Iran? That is what CNN implicitly suggested in a report today on The Situation Room.

“We don’t have to talk about that, nor should anyone who wants to go into public office. So what we see with current debates and discussions about covert operations, specifically against Iran or other potential nations or entities, should be eliminated. That needs to stop,” said retired Army intelligence general James Marx.

Cranky CNN commentator Jack Cafferty lit into Republican superstars Sarah Palin (R-FNC), Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) on Wednesday’s The Situation Room, comparing them to The Three Stooges (sans Shemp), calling Perry’s instant burial of Mitt Romney in the polls “a little scary,” and asking, “When it comes to presidential politics, why does America seem to be allergic to brains?”

President Obama‘s current Midwestern bus tour is designed to bring attention to American jobs, though many of his detractors are claiming its real goal is to drum up political support on the government dime (just as every U.S. President before him has done.) The president took time to sit down with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, who asked the commander-in-chief what he thought of increased political rhetoric of late, particularly from Gov. Rick Perry.

Saturday Night Live opened this week’s show with a parody of CNN’s The Situation Room, with Jason Sudeikis doing a dead-on impression of Wolf Blitzer reporting on an absurdist version of President Obama‘s speech in El Paso this week. Lampooning criticism of the President’s lone, low-key mention of Osama bin Laden‘s killing, Fred Armisen delivered an over-the-top Obama smoking, trash-talking, and basically letting it all hang out.

Buried in a segment on CNN’s The Situation Room Tuesday was a nugget of naked hypocrisy, courtesy of Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa). Debating the GOP’s kabuki health care reform repeal theater with Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fl), King was asked by Wolf Blitzer if he would follow the example of freshman Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Il) and refuse his taxpayer-funded health insurance.

Learning the steps to the hip-hop dance colloquially known as “the Dougie” is no easy feat, which is why the song from which it originates is titled, “Teach Me How to Dougie.” So while CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer did try his best to learn and perform the dance at last week’s Soul Train Awards, he was largely unsuccessful.

Bill Maher was in the Situation Room clarifying some of the moments that went viral from last Friday’s Real Time. Sure, he talked about that whole “Mohammed thing,” but, more importantly, he answered the question everyone was dying to know: No, it was not real pot that Zach Galifianakis was smoking. His proof? Yesterday, Fox & Friends committed an embarrassing gaffe when it reported on a fake story that the Los Angeles Police Department was buying 10,000 of these jetpacks at a cost of $100,000 each. The “story” originated here, and one rival network couldn’t wait to point all that out.

Last night when Chris Matthews discussed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s idea of a “Deem and Pass” to get the health reform bill pushed through Congress, his main concern was that it would open up Democrats to criticism of using evasive tactics. And he wasn’t wrong: Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown was on The Situation Room tonight, already chomping at the bit to discuss the “backroom deals….political chicanery and parliamentary maneuvers” that the House majority was using to “ram this bill through.”

Besides throwing almost every applicable political buzzword into his assessment of President Barack Obama‘s recent health care summit, RNC Chairman Michael Steele managed to offend nearly every left-wing viewer of The Situation Room today when he called the recent Capitol Hill discussion a “death panel” for the Democrats’ health care proposal. Not that he doesn’t make some good points. But still…yikes.

At the CPAC conference this weekend, Glenn Beck likened that Republicans to a bunch of alcoholics who “haven’t had their Jesus moment” yet and admitted they had a problem with big spending. Perfect Glenn Beck analogy: dramatic, baiting, and begging for an outraged response from within his own party. Tonight on The Situation Room, conservative writer and talk show host Bill Bennett begged to differ.
