Harry Potter fans may roll their eyes, but a Mormon housewife’s vampire romance rivals the popularity of the wizard world. Ever since publishing house Little, Brown took a chance on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, America has been bitten by vamp-lust.

Maybe Friday was an exceptionally slow news day. In fact, in a week of all Twilight, Oprah, and Going Rogue, real news did seem to cease. But does that really give Countdown — with Lawrence O’Donnell sitting in for Olbermann — license to forgo their headline story altogether in favor of a highlight reel replaying all of the Sarah Palin jokes from across television this week? Is no one on the Countdown writing staff funny?

Sure, a few male moviegoers are going to willingly tag along as dates with their female companions to see the next installment of Hollywood’s brand-new powerhouse franchise, and many single men of all sexual orientations will be lining up at theaters. But none of those men matter. Twilight is powered by girls, specifically teenage girls — and they are taking it right to the top.

In a blistering review, famed film critic Roger Ebert slammed the much anticipated sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon in the Chicago Sun Times. Though to be fair, there were many soundbites to choose from, including “The characters in this movie should be arrested for loitering with intent to moan.” See them all after the jump.
