Serena Williams Tests The Limits of CBS Censors

It was a rare conclusion to a tennis match last night in Flushing, as Serena Williams lost her U.S. Open semi-final match to Kim Clijsters on an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

“I didn’t say I would kill you,” said Williams to the line judge she berated a few minutes earlier, before the tournament official made the call to dock her a point – which happened to be match point. So what did she say?

“He was a great fan,” he said. “He said, ‘I love you,’ and he kiss me.”

Last night while Nadal was changing his shirt after his match a man ran out on court and hugged him. The way it was filmed it looked like it was a family member or something (and I think Nadal thought maybe it was too, the way he initially reacted) and then two security people pulled the guy away and I felt really uncomfortable because everyone’s good naturedly comparing it to the time a gremlin pranced out and shook up Federer but what I thought of was the time a guy lunged out and stabbed Monica Seles.

What was up with the makeshift tennis court set-up outside the News Corp. building yesterday?

It was all part of the new partnership between Fox Business Network and the Tennis Channel – in which the networks will exchange daily updates during the U.S. Open. This is just the latest in a series of sports-related steps the young biz network has taken aimed at positioning itself to reach a wider audience.
