Wait…What? Wyclef Jean Professes ‘I Am A Huge Fan Of Sarah Palin’

wyclef jean

Politics for Wyclef Jean have often proven thorny. His past problems, however, have not seemed to stopped him from trying. Waxing political with a reporter from fashion trade mag Women’s Wear Daily at Donna Karan‘s New York Fashion Week after-party, the ex-Fugee and one-time Haitian presidential candidate admitted, “I have to tell you this: I am a huge fan of Sarah Palin.” Oh yeah? It’s an unlikely tune coming from Jean, who once called himself an “Obama Groupie.”

Lawrence O’Donnell: “There’s A Way To Avoid Being Hated–I Can Do The F***ing Weather”

Picture 3

The man Glenn Beck described as MSNBC’s “new, hot lover boy,” Lawrence O’Donnell, has given a fascinating interview to WWD. In the story by Alexandra Steigrad, O’Donnell talks about the departure of Keith Olbermann from the network, and how he accepts that some people hate him: “There’s a way to avoid being hated — I can do the f–ing weather.”

O’Donnell, who says cable news types like Beck–and himself–are, to a degree, putting on an act:

nowness_2-24

Tomorrow will mark the launch of LVMH’s new “arts and luxury media” website, NOWNESS.com, which the fashion world has been waiting for since the end of the company’s former e-commerce site, eluxury.com. After the individual companies held by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton began getting their own personal e-commerce sites, LVMH shut down eluxury.com in January of last year.

Magazine Death Watch: Will Condé Opt To Close Mags Over Budget Cuts?

Well this puts a new spin on the Condé Nast McKinsey saga. WWD’s Memo Pad is reporting that despite all the recent focus on the recommended 25% budget cuts across the board, reported earlier this week, the powers that be at Conde may still opt to close down some magazines altogether. Who knew that was even an option?

Domino Alum Line Up To Launch New Online Shelter Magazine

The loss of Domino earlier this year is still being mourned by long-time readers, and the closure of its website seemed to especially highlight Conde’s shortsightedness where the Internet was concerned. But fear not Domino devotees! Some former Domino alum are aiming to fill in the online gap.

‘Out of My City, Fatties!’ NYT’s Cintra Wilson Goes Schizo on Fat People

Nobody trashes J.C. Penney’s, and the fat people who shop there, and gets away with it! New York Times “Critical Shopper” columnist Cintra Wilson is learning that the hard way. And she’s using the opportunity to put her inner schizo on display. Skinny people are so efficient!

Was Janice Min Overrated? Us Weekly Doing Great Under Acting Successor

Women’s Wear Daily reports that Us Weekly had a fine first week under Michael Steele, who filled in as the magazine’s acting editor-in-chief after Janice Min‘s departure in July. Steele’s first issue as acting EIC, which featured a cover story on Bachelorette cheating drama, “sold 1.1 million copies, outpacing Us Weekly’s single-copy sales by an average of 843,470 for the first half of 2009.”

One issue does not make a mandate, but it looks like Jann Wenner may have been right when he wagered that Us Weekly could flourish without Min.

Twitter: The Road to Reporting Relevance?

Has Twitter become the great media divider, separating the wheat from the chaff? It’s beginning to seem that way. There are those journos who adapt to the 140 characters restriction and then it to expand their relevance to parts unknown, and there are those who don’t. The first is a group we are well-acquainted with (sometimes a little too well!) and their coverage tends to find its way into our posts time and time again simply because it is so timely and accessible. The other group? Hmm.
