Following Ken Cuccinelli‘s defeat in the Virginia gubernatorial election, conservative radio host Mark Levin took to his website to rail against the Republican National Committee (in all caps) for failing to fund the GOP candidate at a greater level.
“WE COULD HAVE WON THIS RACE. FOR THE REASONS I HAVE EXPLAINED HERE AND ON THE AIR, GOP ESTABLISHMENT AND DONORS LEFT THE FIELD,” he wrote in a post titled “INFURIATING!”
Levin lamented that Cuccinelli’s defeat will enable Democrats and “establishment” Republicans to further a narrative that the tea party wing of the party is on the skids: “NOW, NOT ONLY THE LIBERALS BUT THE RINO MOUTHPIECES CONTINUE WITH THEIR MANTRA ABOUT THE DEAD TEA PARTY AND THE RINO FUTURE,” he wrote.
“ABSOLUTELY APPALLING!” he ended the textual tirade.
Levin’s post was inspired by this tweet about the RNC’s spending figures for the 2009 and 2013 gubernatorial races:
In 2009, the RNC spent $9M to win VA by 17 points. Looks like it'll have spent $3M in 2013 to lose by a hair. Dummies.
