Come now, Dan, if they can find time for "Simple, Rustic Italian Fare, on a Budget" they can *probably* find time for inane Michael Moore and his inane Zeitgeisty movie! (See: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/26/earlyshow/saturday/main5342948.shtml - mmm). They have every right to cancel the interview but it seems to me pretty clear that's what it was - whether or not it was written in pencil or pen doesn't really get to the point, which was that it seemed MM and CBS were both planning a spot which fell through at the last minute because CBS changed its mind. Moore's assertion as to why is unsubstantiated speculation, but CBS' claim that Moore was "never booked" is a little facile. The whole thing is silly - Moore overstated, CBS understated. But probably a Moore segment would have had a good shot of rating highly and potentially getting picked up, because that's just how MM is. So it seems silly to cancel it, even if ABC had him a week earlier and/or they were nervous about what he might say.

agree with dan. no interview is ever a guarantee. however CBS blew a chance to look really smart by preparing a substantive piece, with Moore's film as a newshook, which may have diffused the entire situation.

Sure this film is news, but he has already done numerous interviews which reduces the news value and more important Moore is in the end, a guy out promoting a movie. CBS should feel no obligation to a) help him promote his movie b) provide him a venue to offer his often condescending attitude towards the people interviewing him. I am the first to criticize the often inane questions some news people ask (in fact I did a daily segment on that on my old show), but Moore makes some pretty ridiculous comments as well. That makes for great debate on cable news but on the networks, where the anchors are required to be a bit more constrained that puts them at a distinct disadvantage. Agree with him or not, Moore can be a bully and if CBS did cancel him the only mistake they may have made was doing it at the last minute thereby giving Moore an opportunity to whine that he is some sort of victim of the "corporate" media.
