Really Nacho? Palin’s “fleeting moment” disproves my argument? Really? Did you not see how many times I wrote, “likely”?

Do you consider Palin’s “fleeting moment,” her honestly considering the procedure, or simply a moment of panic? Did she get papers, do some reading, or talk about it with her husband… or was it, an “oh my God, what do I do?” moment?

Really REALLY grasping at straws here.

@ImNotBlue: "a PRO-LIFE woman does not. I think that’s part of the problem the left has with the right on this issue. When Palin got pregnant later in life, the issue of keeping the child was never an issue…"

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told an antiabortion audience in Indiana on Thursday night that, "for a fleeting moment," she considered having an abortion after learning that her son Trig would have Down syndrome.

kimm says:

ALL women are put in a position to choose everytime one gets pregnant, no matter what their position on abortion may be.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that comment... although, perhaps not the nail you thought you were hitting.

A PRO-CHOICE woman considers her "choice" every time she gets pregnant... a PRO-LIFE woman does not. I think that's part of the problem the left has with the right on this issue. When Palin got pregnant later in life, the issue of keeping the child was never an issue... and that flies in the face of what so many pro-abortion activists have worked for. They haven't necessarily worked to make abortion a GOOD thing... rather, that women can have the choice. Palin (and people like her) essentially say, "I don't care that I have the choice, I don't need to choose... there is only ONE choice for me." They see that as insulting.

As for Bernie's point... I think if you rationally look at it, you'll find it makes more sense than you're willing to give it. A pro-choice woman is more likely to have an abortion... a women who is pregnant with a child with severe developmental disabilities is faced with a choice of "what now." A pro-choice woman is more likely to abort the baby, because they're MORE LIKELY TO HAVE AN ABORTION IN THE FIRST PLACE! An anti-abortion women is less likely simply because they're less likely EVER to have an abortion, the baby's condition isn't a factor! That's just common sense and logic.

@kimm: Again, I really don't like being here, but... if one was pro-life, then they choose an elective abortion for whatever reason and go back to being pro-life, they're either a hypocrite or self-deluding.

@kimm: I'm dangerously into political territory which is someplace I don't like to go on media blogs, but no matter where one starts philosophically, if one chooses abortion, by definition, they're pro-choice.

ALL women are put in a position to choose everytime one gets pregnant, no matter what their position on abortion may be. You can be pro-choice and personally against abortion. You can be pro-life, and get an abortion. Again, show me the statistics that pro-choice women are aborting their babies more than pro-life women when it comes to matters of genetic malformances, and I'll shut up.

Instead of women and young girls getting themselves into situations where they may need to make that decision, try condoms next time. Hey, are you listening Mississippi?

@Fidoohki: Goldberg's initial comment should've been a lot less sweeping and is worthy of derision, but his follow-up makes logical sense; a pro-choice woman would be more likely to choose.

Signed,

So typical. The left wants to be pro-abortion. But then wants to wash its hands of all the results of that position. Total hypocrisy on Stewart's part. Either he thinks its okay to abort a child with Down's syndrome or he doesn't. He can't have it both ways.

Most Conservatives are racist/ rednecks.
Most Liberals would abort a child with an extra chromosome.
The above assertions are equally offensive and unproven.

I'll agree with Bernie. 100%.

I live in Canada. Here a 12 year old girl can have an abortion with out her parents knowing about it. All she needs is someone to drive her there, and her Medicare Card. There are 28.3 abortions to every 100 live births('05 CDN stats). We Canadians define Liberalism. And I can tell you of the abortions that I know about through various acquaintances of women who are over 25 years old, talked about openly, are for inconvenience of time and economic reasons, and also questionable genetic testing, meaning a preliminary test suggested more testing, but the reality is women would rather abort the baby that may be flawed, and try again.

Bernie Goldberg just said out loud the reality. Jon Stewart should get out of his NYC Bubble, where they all sit around congratulating themselves on how superior they are. Why do we continue to hide behind the reason for abortion as being desperation. We are a selfish people, lets cut the BS.

kimm: people like ChrisNH have no substance to add to any discussions like this so they stick to republican talking points. It's a common occurrence around these parts. Sadly, you have to get used to it. Talking point, talking point, "we watch more tv than you", talking point, etc. etc. etc.

The fact too that a conservative (with a slobbering problem) comes out and says an entire block of the nation is not religious or supports the killing of babies with DS is ridiculous. I continue to hear conservatives complain about getting lumped in as uneducated and racist hicks, yet they are more than happy to condone this slobbering fool.

Chris, I'm anxious to hear your talking point response... Oooh this is gonna be fun!

With all due respect ChrisNH, what does any of that have to do with Goldberg's asinine statement? Again, if anyone is going to make the kind of outrageous statement that Goldberg did, then you better have facts to back it up.

And are you comparing Goldberg to a kitten? That's funny! Speaking of funny, remember - Stewart is a comedian, first and foremost.

It is quite pleasant watching Leftist media hacks in an enraged, unhinged state. They have nothing positive about 'their guy' to focus on, so on the attack they go. Remember, each and every one of these Liberal media hacks was swigging champagne after Obama won last November. Since then, not so much. Meanwhile, look at all the credible, mounting evidence that this Obama administration is nothing but one gigantic 'FAIL.' I'd be kicking kittens like Jon Stewart is, too, if 'my guy' was making me look stupid in the process. And that's exactly what is happening. That there are ten people watching O'Reilly for every one person watching Stewart also factors into the unhinged rage from Stewart, too.

Are you freakin' kidding me??? This is the weakest line drawn to connect two points that I have ever heard ...

Liberals aren't religious? We abort our babies at the slightest whiff of trouble? I would absolutely LOVE to see Goldberg back that up with ANY kind of stats. What an incendiary, idiotic statement.

I remember a few years back, Bernie was on TDS pimping his "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America" book, and Jon seemed annoyed by him then, going so far as to just throw his book on the desk at the end of the segment, rather than holding it up so you could see the cover. I don't think Mr. Stewart likes him.
