Amazing… all those posts and not a single one addressing the real issues. Some “defending” Franken by attacking McCain (apparently, it was wrong for McCain, but right for Franken… or were they both right?)… some just attacking because they’re completely uninformed, but want to contribute… and some just missing some salient information.

Again… the facts of THIS story are:
(1) Franken cut off Lieberman, who was speaking on a something they both AGREED upon.
(2) It has been shown that Franken was simply taking orders from Reid, who wanted to “limit” speech, because he thought it was a stall tactic.
(3) It is customary to allow Senators a few extra minutes to speak.

So the questions become:
(1) Who does this make look bad… Reid, Franken, Lieberman, or McCain?
(2) Is this the way the government SHOULD act towards ALL Senators, no matter the party, no matter the situation?
(3) Did this accomplish what the Democrats wanted? What was that?
(4) For those who praise Franken… what does it mean to you that he was “just following orders,” and that he cut off someone who was agreeing with him?

ANYONE adult enough to address that?

Franken should have said that Reid was limited them to 10 minutes; When he objected, he
went from impartial Presiding officer to partisan senator. Isn’t the Presiding officer supposed to be
impartial reguardless of the letter follows their name? ((D,I, or R for those that don’t get it))

I explained exactly why I call Franken what I do. Try reading it again and use a dictionary for
those words you can’t figure out.

As for ridiculing your debate level? There is an old saying..

You obviously know NOTHING about how the Senate works. The fact that Franken is a freshman senator is precisely why he was presiding over the senate. The President of the Senate is the VP of the US. He is almost NEVER there so the President Pro Tempore, who is elected by the Senate, and is usually the longest serving senator of the majority party, presides over the Senate. At this time Robert Byrd of W.V is the President Pro Tempore. The duties of the President Pro Tempore are routinely delegated to the most junior senators so they can become familiar with parliamentary procedure. And if you knew anything about the way the Senate works you would not be confusing Franken following the orders of Reid, with Franken being “puffed up”. Franken did exactly what he was told to do, he limited senators to their allotted 10 minutes. And McCain is the one who should shut his mouth and not lie on the floor of the Senate. As has been pointed out here, McCain has cut off fellow Senators from speaking beyond their allotment of time. His claim that in his 20 years in the Senate he has never witnessed such a thing is a lie. In McCain’s case, it was a senator asking for an additional 30 seconds. Maybe he meant he had never seen a Senator cut off after asking for an additional 1 minute. Try educating yourself about how our government functions before you start accusing people of being “puffed up” and wondering how they were “given this power already”.

Now for Ted, since you seem to only relate to this level of debate I will break it down
into something you can understand:

Finally, everyone is forgetting the basis of this. Sen. Franken cut him off as the sitting moderator
of the senate then denied him the extra minutes as a SENATOR not as the moderator. Which hasn’t
happened for a long time and is an insult.

It is about time that a time limit on speaking was enforced. Good for Al Franken.

Oh, and the old “O’Reilly caused someone to die,” was proven false. There was no relation between Tiller’s killer and O’Reilly. To accuse O’Reilly of having a hand in it, is the same as saying “Pepsi” killed him, because that’s what the guy had to drink before shooting. Dumb dumb dumb.

That’s a joke, right? Is there any evidence that Al Franken isn’t a hyper partisan, who has nothing but contempt (and anger) for people who don’t agree with him?

Fact is, Franken was out of line and disrespectful. The only people who disagree with that, are those who don’t like Lieberman and don’t respect people who disagree… like Franken. However, it isn’t all Franken’s fault… he just got the memo from Harry Reid, who wants ALL “his” Senators to start doing this. Apparently if there’s not enough time for Lieberman to speak another minute or two… there’s certainly not enough time to read the bill.

Oh… and here’s the interesting thing that NOBODY seems to be mentioning. From what I understand, Lieberman was speaking IN FAVOR of the bill… not against! Doh!

So in summation… O’Reilly is right thank Franken is a rude and disrespectful. He is wrong, however, that it was Franken’s intention to hurt Lieberman, or even that this was his idea. Franken, on the other hand, was rude… but was told to be rude… and apparently hasn’t enough spine or courage to stand up to Harry Reid. As for Al Franken , anyone who knows this guy beyond the media talking points BS, this is one of the most sincere, honorable men I’ve ever seen. He’s ridiculously kind and respectful to the right wing, middle america whom he talks to on the radio.. Total class act this guy.. sad some are too dense to see this. We need more people like him. He is part of the ‘good America’.
