The ratings are incomplete. MSNBC is not available on all of the outlets that CNN and Faux News are. #2. MSNBC's shows are available for download on their website which is in the hundreds of thousands every month that are not counted in the ratings but should be. Just those two examples should give anyone pause when reading the ratings everyday.

Lawrence O'Donnell continually provides the most cogent analysis of all the talking heads and pundits on television. It was a pleasure to see him host Countdown two nights ago. It was also refreshing to listen to Gov. Dean last night.
Anecdotally, from my limited exposure to neocon friends in the two localities I call home, the reason Fox drivel news is more popular and had higher numbers, is that Fox appeals to the fears and baser instincts of people. Be it gov't take over, racism or xenophobia. And these people do not read nor seek other sources for information. Therefore, continually Fox network numbers will always show a higher rating. I tune in to Fox just to familiarize my self with the idiocy of Beck, the megalomania and narcissism of O'Reilly, the pandering and illogical Hannity and the specious logic of Greta. Shepard Smith tries his darnest to be a journalist given the apparent mission statement of Rupert Murdoch.

Sticking with the Jackson story doesn't seem to be helping Anderson, he didn't even get half of Greta's numbers in the total viewers or the demo and to add insult to injury, lost to Olbermann's repeat in the demo and Olbermann wasn't even there.

Not to worry, I am sure that his "Regis & Kelly" numbers are through the roof, clearly that is his true "bliss." He might want to consider doing a celebrity talk show and leave the news business to authentic journalists. It is difficult to believe that he used to be an excellent journalist.
