Chris Matthews to Obama: Eric Holder ‘Showed How You Lead in This Country’

On MSNBC Friday, Chris Matthews, filling in for Andrea Mitchell on Mitchell Reports, said President Barack Obama should take after his own attorney general, Eric Holder.

Matthews interviewed correspondent Craig Melvin about Holder’s visit to Ferguson MO.

“That was a big deal for a lot of people,” Melvin said.

Holder visited Ferguson this week to lead an investigation into the shooting of 18-year-old black man Michael Brown, who was shot dead by a white police officer. Ferguson has been in a state of unrest since the Aug. 9 incident.

“It may be a lesson for the president, too,” Matthews said. “And I’m not usually a critic of him but I have to say that I thought that in a very positive way Eric Holder showed how you lead in this country. And a big part of leading is showing up.”

President Barack Obama has issued statements on Ferguson but has not traveled to the city. He is wrapping up a vacation in Martha’s Vineyard.
