Chris Wallace: If You Want To Reach Conservatives ‘Fox News Is Probably The Place’ To Do It

Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace spoke with The Mike Gallagher Show recently about, as Gallagher himself put it, the “over-the-top reaction” to GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich‘s controversial statement regarding Paul Ryan‘s health care plan.

Said Wallace:

I agree with you that it’s certainly a legitimate issue to debate and disagree on, and I certainly think that the Democrats with their talking point about “Well now, this is the litmus test for Republicans – whether or not you’re willing to end Medicare” is a kind of a cheap talking point. The point isn’t that he disagreed; the point is that, in typical Newt fashion, he disagreed in such inflammatory language that can be used as nothing but a weapon against Republicans.

If Newt Gingrich had given a subtle, reasoned approach and said, “I’ve got problems with the Ryan plan; I think we’ve got to do something about Medicare, but…” But that isn’t what he said. He called it radical, he called it “right-wing social engineering.”

Wallace continued,

…He’s going to be on – get this, because he wants to apologize to Republicans and set himself right – he’s going to meet with Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation.

Gallagher was stunned that Gingrich wouldn’t choose, instead, to appear on something like Wallace’s own Fox News program. Wallace agreed:

It just strikes me as, you know, if you’re going to go out and try to reach out to Conservatives, Fox News is probably the place you want to do it.

We’re… rather inclined to agree, to put it quite mildly. The question is, of course, has Gingrich done irreparable damage at this point?

Fox draws a larger share of conservatives than any other cable news network. That is true.

But independent studies (from the Pew Center and other sources), show that Fox also draws a larger share of moderates and independents than any other cable news network.

Even among liberal viewers, Fox runs very close to CNN and MSNBC in audience size.

Only among the ultra-far-left kool-aid drinking loons does Fox clearly lose out to the competition. And THAT tells you more about the competition than it tells you about Fox News.

Yes he has. And going on Bob’s show was a major mistake. Just look at the questions Bob asked him that would never be asked of a Dem. Even if they ….. oh I don’t know… f’ed a prostitute or had a lovechild with their videographer while his wife was dying of cancer.

It’s not FOX, it’s the out-of-touch Democrat media. Canada and Europe, long time idols of anti-American Democrats have turned away from their blunders in Socialism as they were the proven disasters Conservatives have always warned of. Anti-American Democrats are just slower learners than their Canadian and European counterparts.

This is false analysis. Independents and liberal viewers are almost evenly spread among the three networks. Conservative viewers are more rigid in their viewership and by far stick with FNC. That is the only reason why FNC has a higher audience. People like watching news where their views are reinforced.FOX News is the most ideological news network. You don’t have to believe me. Read one of your sources.

Despite of what Wallace said. He’s really the only one on Fox who’s close to being Fair and Balanced. He calls out republicans as he does democrats. I’m almost certain that Wallace would have asked Newt the same question as did Gregory. But if Fox had dismissed Newt’s response, the rest of the media would have picked up the tape and ran with it. When the right wing throws you under the bus, Newt, you’re finished.
