Chyron of the Day: CNN Cuts To Chase – “Honduras Is A Mess”
CNN, 3:46pmET, yesterday:
Rick Sanchez has a unique anchoring style on CNN at 3pmET, and his chyron writers do too apparently. Yesterday he teased a segment about the situation in Honduras, and didn’t pull punches. The lower third highlighted how it “is a mess.”
“It’s unsteady and uncertain in Honduras, three months of wondering who is in charge in that country,” said Sanchez. He’s referring to the admittedly very tense situation, where the stand-off between ousted President Manuel Zelaya and de facto President Roberto Micheletti continues.
But just as we wrote about the “Who is this chyron’s audience exactly?” category of chyron yesterday, this one falls into Sanchez’ own type of category – the blunt statement chyron.
Still, if anyone is qualified to talk about the Honduras situation, it’s Sanchez. On Friday he interviewed both men (in Spanish and English) for a lengthy segment about the story. Video is below. And one fact Sanchez said yesterday, with a healthy dose of doubt, stands out. Apparently Zelaya says “that Israeli agents are trying to sneak poisoned gas into the embassy where he is and kill him.” (He really thinks that.) You know, Honduras is a mess…
Here are Sanchez’ interviews on Friday:
