CNN’s Campbell Brown To NAACP VP: ‘You Allowed Yourselves To Be Snookered’

This Shirley Sherrod story has really brought out the aggressive side of CNN. Earlier in the day, John King went toe-to-toe with Andrew Breitbart over the video released on Big Government that cost him his job. Later, Campbell Brown took down the vice president of the NAACP on their president’s statement that they were “snookered,” telling the organization, “you’re the ones to blame here.”

Brown, in rare aggressive form not really seen since her classic takedown of McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds in 2008, slammed NAACP Vice President Hilary Shelton for repeating the claim made by President Ben Jealous that Breitbart and Fox News “snookered” the NAACP into condemning Sherrod’s claims:

“I don’t believe you were snookered. You allowed yourself to be snookered and you’re the ones to blame here because you had the tape in your possession and you could have easily watched it and known the full context of her remarks. You didn’t have to take your information solely from these conservative bloggers you now say snookered you.”

Shelton stammered that “the only video that was available was on the website [Big Government]” and that they had retracted their original statement following their initial rebuking of Sherrod’s speech. It’s been a very bad day for the NAACP.

1 – Breibert had video on his site.

2 – NAACP denounces Sherrod and throws her under the bus.

3 – White House demands Sherrod resign and throws her under the bus.

4 – Sherrod resigns. (later tells CNN that she was FORCED to resign because the “white house” was afraid that Beck would have her on his show).

5 – Some Fox News shows do the story

7 – Glenn Beck DOES NOT have Sherrod on his show that evening.

So apparently according to the time line Obama and the NAACP JUMPED THE GUN and had a rush to judgment…and Sherrod ADMITS on CNN that she resigned because the White House was afraid of Glenn Beck..huh?

My letter to President Obama:

My letter addresses, in particular, those Administration actions which led to the forced resignation of Ms. Shirley Sherrod. In the witch hunt-like hysteria bought about by the lies of Andrew Breitbart and his various outlets and certain media personalities at FOX News, eager to perpetuate the lies, your Administration acted rashly. We all understand the toxic racial environment in which this unfolded, and the Administration’s noble desire and efforts to clean this environmental catastrophe are commendable. However, to over-react to self-serving liars masquerading as journalists creates yet another problem. The victim of Mr. Breitbart and such FOX News personalities as Glenn Beck, Steve Douchey and Sean Hannity, and others, Ms. Sherrod, needs to be given the opportunity to return to her position. She is, by all accounts, a good and decent person, a loyal and valuable public servant. Right the wrong your Administration has perpetuated, at once.

The Administration has a larger problem, however. In its efforts to illustrate its post-racial nature, the Administration has previously overly-reacted to reports by, frankly, lying scumbags, wholly devoid of personal and journalistic integrity, with the only discernible effect being the loss of talented, dedicated individuals in the Administration. You have gained no respect by the loathsome cretins, and you have effectively encouraged them. The Administration has tried, honestly and aggressively to reach out to these marginal people in our media who have being openly hostile to the Administration and to you from the moment your 2008 victory became apparent. No good end has come, and none will come. These are not good people. You simply have to accept the fact you are dealing with shameless self-promoters without any respect for their profession, for you or for our nation. You have to adjust your policies accordingly. I encourage you to do so, at once.

In a segue of sorts, Perino noted the Sherrod story, largely in passive voice, as if FOX were a by-stander, and bemoaned the electric racial environment “out there”. Presumably, “out there” is Michelle Bachman’s Tea Parties. Douchey looked like someone ran over his dog.

I was watching Fox news most of the day. They did not report this story until AFTER this woman resigned. It is so easy to blame Fox news for everything. The left is so afraid people are going to find out the truth about what goes on in government they try to convince Americans that FOX lies. They are so aftaid we will know the truth about them… I can tell you from experience that I have watched news stories on FOX where the words come out of the horses mouth and when interviewed on other news channels have denied they said anything.
As for this woman. What a shame. She was relating a lesson she had learned earlier in her life that made a change in her thinking and behavior with all the people she assisted.
