George W. Bush: ‘I’m Done With Politics, GOP Fundraising And Appearing On TV’

video

Former President George W. Bush told C-Span this weekend that he has no plans to play any role in politics in the coming years. The refreshingly frank and candid interview drew a stark contrast from other former presidents (cough..Clinton) who seemed eager to stay in the public eye after serving two terms in office. “I don’t want to go out and campaign for candidates,” adding “I don’t want to be viewed as a perpetual money-raiser.”

Writing for the Daily News, Aliyah Shahid reports

The 64-year-old noted the irony that he was on television.

“In spite of the fact that I’m now on TV, I don’t want to be on TV”, said Bush who has largely remained out of the public eye since his
presidency ended.

Bush released a memoir, “Decision Points,” last November.

“I don’t want to be on these talk shows, giving my opinion, second guessing the current President. I think it’s bad for the country,
frankly, to have a former president criticize his successor.”

Bush’s predecessor, Bill Clinton, has been an active campaigner and fundraiser for the Democrats. Clinton has largely avoided direct
criticism of Bush.

In the mean time, the 43rd President would like to stay out of the limelight.

Colby, your comparison of Bush 43 and Clinton staying in the spot light is dumber than usual for you.

Clinton has saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in India and Africa by squeezing rich people to contribute money, to lower the cost of life-saving meds for AIDS patients. Bubba stays in the spotlight because people WANT him to remain in the spotlight. He goes to the World Economic Forum in Davos because his opinion is sought.

I know this is your own opinion but comparing the 2 former Presidents is absurd. Sorry, man.

Hell no it was Bush. Worst President ever.

Really all he would have to do is let the Hague pick them both up which I know the Hague has said in the past they would pursue.

But watch Obama protect them, I guarantee that is what will happen if the World Court ever brings charges which they still cool. No statues on World crimes tried by the Hague.

The worst president in US history was James Buchanan. Fortunately he was followed by the best.

    W. should speak out more. What does he think of the Tea Party? What does he think of Obama keeping 80% of his foreign policy in place? How does he feel about the growing anti-Muslim sentiment? He once said “America is addicted to oil.” Why are we no closer to getting off of it than when he said that?

I know enough to see blind indoctrinated hate when I see it, especially the copy and paste kind. 43 should rate in the lower tier, but he’s not the worse. People who honestly and independently hate Bush’s presidency should re-examine FDR’s reign and how they use social media. Maybe take another look at that Vietnam thing as well. Of course, anyone who wasn’t of mature age on 9/11 has no frame of reference.

You are right the charter went unsigned by the Bush admistration, of course on purpose because they knew what they were doing and what they would be doing could get them convicted of crimes by the IIC and sentenced to death. Ask Slobodan Milosevic.

I have seen a couple of lawyers argue that the Obama admistration could sign the charter and make it retroactive, meaning that the Bush admistration would be bound by the charter too. But we all know that will never happen, Eric Holder and Obama are doing everything they can to protect Bush/Cheney from prosecution and even if they did make it retroactive it may not hold up in court when challenged by the defense.

Bush and Cheney are going to go to their graves without ever having to atone for their sins against humanity and our country. I do hope there is a God who will judge these men for what they have done with extreme prejudice. I think about the hundreds of thousands needlessly slaughtered because of these men. The women and children, not to mention GWB created a whole new generation of terrorists. Which is what he wanted to do.

Actually in this case cutting and pasting would be pointless because my statement is true but you wont find it on the google you have to actually have read books about the man and know that Warren Harding’s inaugural was on one of the coldest days in Washington DC in years and everyone warned Harding not to have it outside which he refused to listen to.

After the inaugural Harding got very sick and had bouts of pneumonia for the next two years of his Presidency, which affected his governing and his ability to work.

Although you don’t know that because all you did was look up how long Warren Harding was president and see that it was two years, you obviously know nothing about his Presidency and how he was sick the entire time all starting with the inaugural.

Understand that throughout history the US has needed enemies in order to prop up our military industrial complex, with the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 we lost our enemy and our boogyman so we had to create new ones. Our policies in the Middle East bolstered the fundamentalists and created an entire new wave or young and eager terrorists, Clinton Bush Sr and Bush Jr.’s policies promoted it.

But I don’t see where the policies of GWB were trying to prevent the promulgation of terrorists (a policy Obama continues).

Our country needs an enemy there is a lot of money invested in it, most of our money is so we have to have someone to fight. OBL was a CIA asset for years, so was Saddam Hussein, we usually have our former friends become our enemies because they are easier to manipulate.

That’s the whole point. Libel is reserved for situations where someone LIES to defame someone. The reason that the burden of proof for libel is so great is because of this. Lots of people have beliefs that are incorrect, but it is not libelous or unethical for them to express those opinions.

What is unethical about libel is that the person defaming somone KNOWS the defamation is incorrect. A person who kills someone and signs a deposition that he saw someone else do it–THAT’S libelous.

Regardless of how vile or contemptible ColorMeBadd’s belief might be, it appears to be her belief. Which may make it hopelessly untrue. But if she believes it to be true, it isn’t LIBEL.

And thus, her saying it cannot be unethical on the basis of being libel.

One could make a case that it is unethical for her to say it because she has not done any due diligence in forming her opinion. But, in this case, she seems to have a lot to say about how she formed that opinion.

So, as wrong as it might be, her saying it is not libel, and it is not unethical.

If you disagree, please be specific about why.

  • Just_MC

    Obtuse said:

Okay, now work with me on this. Suppose you see someone murder someone, and then you write that that person is a murderer. You ARE meaning to defame the person, for sure. But you are correct in your defamation. So, you would agree, not libel, right?

Now suppose you saw video of someone murdering someone, and you write that the person is a murderer based on the video. You saw evidence. You formed your opinion. You did so in good faith. No libel. Then you find out the video was doctored, and you immediately retract your original statement. It still wasn’t libel.

But based on your definition, simply defaming them, writing anything bad about anyone is libel.

If so, we can agree to disagree on the definition of libel. But I want to understand how your world works when people are libelous and unethical just because they have a wrong opinion and state that wrong opinion honestly.

    1. SUPPOSE Bush DID want to create terrorists, and someone knew it. Would it be libelous to write that he did?

    2. You did say you aren’t omnipitent, and thus that you can’t read people’s minds. So you don’t have any way to know whether Bush wanted to create terrorists or not. So, how can you know ColorMeBadd is wrong, in order to pronounce what ColorMeBadd wrote incorrect?

  • Obtuse

    Just_MC said:

Not my definition of libel, but if I write a letter to my local newspaper saying my neighbor worships the devil, it could be held as libelous until I could provide proof to back up my claims. If I write a letter saying 43 worships the devil, it would be no less libelous but there would be no burden of proof since Bush is a person in the public eye.

There is enough evidence out there that Bush/Cheney/Wolfowitz deliberately lied about WMD’s and someday soon they will be prosecuted for treason. Too many innocent people have been killed and American soldiers have been needlessly sacrificed for what has to be the biggest foreign policy blunder in modern times. It’s also clear that sufficient warnings were given by security people both in this country and from abroad that the terrrorists were in advanced stages of planning to hijack planes for an attack on this country. You apologists can debate back and forth about this but the evidence is already there. All that is needed is a bit more time and the national will to prosecute these miserable characters.

My question would be: since Sadaam used WMD against the Kurds, and Iranians, why would anyone believe that he did not have any a few years later? My opinion is that this man will be shown by history; not a bunch of near illiterate webrats. To be one of the best Presidents the USA has had. Most of you have swallowedwhole the anti-Bush line being fed to you by the site you frequent. Try reading somethingoutside your comfort level for a change. You might learn something. You remember learningdon’t you? That’s where you gather a number of facts from differing sources and you make upyour own mind. The brain is a muscle if you don’t use it, it will atrophy.

Are you a fan of the Constitution?

George Bush did astonishing harm to the Constitution, this country, many other countries, and we have hundreds of thousands of dead and maimed to show for it. And a lot of well-earned hatred for the USA.

So you would prefer Sadaam still in power, selling oil for weapons?

Yes. What do I care? Sovereign nations are just that. Let them sort out their own affairs. If we respected liberty at home, left the world alone and traded peacefully, not only would damned few have cause to hate us, but we’d be economically strong enough to defend ourselves from anything.

Yes, the kind of isolationism that tells every two bit dictator that the only thing America cares about is making money.

We tried isolationism before WW1 and WW2 and all it got us was world wars and a hundred million dead people.

    You have it EXACTLY backwards.

Any of you watch the full interview? It was good. Bush speaks against the “-isms” that persisted in the 20′s. Isolationism, Protectionism and Nativism. He said he feared we are going back to that environment with the current political climate. He’s right! I wouldn’t want to be associated with the present day Teapublicans either.

    Good to hear.

Lefties know full well that(if anything) THEY ARE guilty of the accusations/BS they spew.
It is a deflection tactic to accuse others, play he said she said in the end
if they get caught ,it’s all a wash

You’re welcome, and my Pleasure, tiredofbs. But look, almost every President in my lifetime has done the undeclared war thing. From LBJ’s getting ‘surgey’ with the undeclared war Vietnam that Kennedy started, but the Dems waited for Nixon to call His War, to then Reagan’s going into Grenada, to H.W’s. going into Panama, to Dubya’s going into Iraq.

So it’s just the Dems, Not I, Holier-than-Thou BS that I’ve been hearing all of my life, or that when They’ve done the Same, that it was different then. That it was for a greater good. So those were righteous kinda killings, you see? I mean, gimme a f’king Break already, would you Please Dems!? Because I was 8-years-old when Nixon signed the Paris Agreement in 73′! So I obviously had to learn about it later in life, and had to read between the BS lines about why it became “his war”, when all He was doing was trying to Win it, and clean up the mess that the Last two had made there.

And btw, that’s Also why you won’t hear me criticize Obama on Afghanistan, except for that cute “air raiding villages and killing civilians” comment that he made a couple years back, of course (which was an A-hole thing to say, even for a Democrat), because the mess in Afghanistan goes all the way back to Carter and Primarily, back to This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnV_pNe_BB0 Transylvanian (or close enough) Loser, who I could only find that video of, amongst the Troofer loons… Lovin’ the irony there too.

We are in agreement again MC, even though I tried to justify the Patriot Act at the time. Thomas Jefferson (or was it Benjamin Franklin) said it best: Those who would sacrifice freedom for safety deserve neither.

In defense of many–hindsight is always 20/20.

Why didn’t he do that BEFORE he f@*ked up the country. Same as all the rest of the GOP presidents get in, get as much money as they can for themselves and their friends, then get out and hide in the rat holes they came from.
