Hasselbeck Fed Up Over NBC’s Handling Of Debate: ‘Dare We Not Let Anyone Applaud For A Republican?’

Video

The View‘s Elisabeth Hasselbeck is none too happy with how the folks at NBC handled last night’s GOP debate in Florida, calling the debate “crappy” and accusing the network of displaying an anti-Republican bias.

Echoing comments made earlier today by Newt Gingrich, Hasselbeck felt the network had been trying to stifle the debate’s Republican audience:

RELATED: Newt Gingrich Blasts Brian Williams For Silencing Debate Audience: ‘The Media Doesn’t Control Free Speech’

The American people deserve something better than a crappy debate. That was the worst debate I’ve ever seen, and I’ve watched all of them. Number one — I love this — like, dare we not let anyone applaud for a Republican. [...] I don’t like that idea. I think the American people sitting there to say, or express, how they believe peacefully. Number two, I am annoyed that they didn’t even get to the topic of jobs until near fifty minutes into that debate, when we are in the most devastating job situation in our nation.

B-list reality show person with Conservative Victimization Syndrome. Et tu, Sarah Palin?

  • Charles Ulysses Feney

She knows that Newt’s Irish firebrand rhetoric style needs an angry mob hollering for more red meat.
Newt doesn’t do so well without the WWE crowd theatrics.

  • val smith

I am pretty fed up with the GOP crying wolf over nedia bias. Does anybody remember Sean Hannity’s 1000 nights of reverend Wright? The GOP has plenty of conservative media oputlets to get its views across-if they feel so uncomforatble using old media then don’t. But then also don’t pretend you’re trying to reach voters outside your base and also don’t try to say you want to unite the country.

I cannot wait until these same fools have to go toe to toe with Obama and he decimates them and their shallow talking point clown show.

  • JustAsking2012

What are the “conservative media outlets?” Please list them.

  • Jonathan Cantor

How’s Tim Hasselbeck doing. He was an INCREDIBLE backup QB.

The focus of any debate should be the people onstage and the focus of the people onstage should be their arguments and their opponents.

A televised debate is to get your message out to the millions watching at home, not to pander to the thousands in attendance.

The fact that Newt needs audience support only highlights the weakness of his arguments.

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

The media has done nothing but stifle Republican voices. I can’t remember the last time I heard a Republican cheer… Or when I last saw a libertarian smile… An evangelical run through a field of flowers in bloom. This is only because of the media masters. They control conservatives like they are indentured puppets in some big puppet show where you can’t cheer and I’m just sick of it. Sick I say! Will anyone set them free?

Leave the Irish stereotypes out of it.  I’m a little bit buzzed right now and don’t appreciate reading crude caricatures about my peeps.

Expecting what is supposed to be a very serious forum to be “fun,” “exciting,” or another form of “entertainment” is imo, a sign of one who lacks the maturity and brainpower to deal with/understand important subject matter.  Hasselbeck seems incapable of understanding how the future of the U.S. could be determined by one of these candidates, and the impact it would have on the lives of millions of Americans.

  • http://twitter.com/Socoral Tom Green

Fox News, the MOST WATCHED news channel.  Haven’t you gotten tired of telling people that?

  • JustAsking2012

    That’s 1 outlet. What else?

Val said there are “plenty” of outlets… and can’t possibly only mean one television station. So what else keeps the balance that val stated?

  • Anonymous

Hasselbeck has never had an original thought in her life, her talking points always come from someone…wonder who it is this time….I thought Brian Williams did a good professional job, we want to see and hear how the candidates can conduct themselves without playing to the audience there…This was about the first debate that wasn’t like clown show…..What do you want to bet that Thursday debate will have lots of audience participation, unless the moderator has the balls to stand up to the likes of Newtie…….

Hey honey….  We saw enough GOP crowds applauding liars, self servants, bigots, hate mongers and satan worshippers during the South Carolina debates.  How could anyone miss the fact that the South Carolina debates were nothing more than a freak fest where these clowns who want to be president simply through raw meat at the hate mongering racists in the packed GOP debates and they loved it.  Where were you Elizabeth????  No one has stopped people from applauding republicans.  The problem with people like you is the fact that you want it to be a hate fest full of idiots who will applaude hate, fear, lies and the lack of integrity that characterizes all of these GOP presidental wannabees.

Tim Russert and Brian Williams did the same thing ‘at the ’08 MSNBC Democratic debate.

Considering some of the embarrassment the audiences at republican debates this year have caused, booing the gay solider, cheering the idea of letting someone die because they don’t have health insurance, booing the idea of following the golden rule, and cheering the fact that Texas has done a record number of executions in Perry’s time, etc
I would have to say silence so the politicians could present their arguments in a reasonable rationale way instead of pandering to the emotional responses of the crowd was a welcome change

News “outlets” include print (WSJ, National review, Weekly Standard), radio (Hannity, Rush, Dom Giordano, Laura Inghram, Glenn Beck) television (Fox, Fox Busniess, CBN) and internet (FoxNews, GBTV, Breitbart.tv, BigGovernmwnt, RedState, RealClearPolitics)…among others.  So yes, there are plenty.

A reality airhead who takes herself too seriously makes a statement compatible with her description and all of a sudden this becomes some kind of news. Really?!

Paris Hilton craves media attention. She can start making extreme political statements too. If it works for Hasselbeck it might work for her too.

Perhaps we could get Sarah McLachlan to do an ad for neglected conservatives pitifully staring up into the camera with baleful eyes.

You really have drunk the Kool Aid Elizabeth.  Newt is running for President of the United States. Not entertainer of the year.  Quit the partisan crap, for once, will you?

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

Hasselbeck must have the impression that everyone’s hands were literally tied behind the back (by Brian Williams)??

But said she watched the debate, then she must have heard people occasionally applauding??

    She’s not too bright!!

  • Anonymous

and we care what Elizabeth says because….?

Now now we can’t go and ask StonePark to actually open her teabagged eyes and see that all of the “conservative” crap that’s stuffed down her throat every day is part of a bigger, more insidious “conservative” scum bag agenda now, can we? Why, her dried up, narrow little teabagged mind would explode!

  • Anonymous

The phrase, ‘Echoing Comments’ does sum up Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s reputation.  However, she has worked hard to establish that reputation, especially in the leadup to the 2008 election when she was the literal mouthpiece for Hannity and O’Reilly talking points, and no-one can take that away from her.

  • http://twitter.com/Samuel_Bun Samuel_Bun

All of them are, everyone of them laid down for bush. other than Olbermann it was a right wing freak show.

  • Anonymous

The debate was crappy because Williams asked stupid questions.  If he had come up with something better the lack of applause wouldn’t have mattered.  And making it an hour shorter would help…or just not having so many.  Same old same old all the time….

  • http://twitter.com/Samuel_Bun Samuel_Bun

Don’t forget Beck came from HLN which is owned by CNN. CNN is right leaning big time you just have to listen.

  • Anonymous

NBC made the right decision….over 50% of this country is not republican…so we don’t want to hear this small minority of the country clap every time they make a racist statement.

  • Anonymous

Let me be the first to call non-applauding Conservatives RINOs.

  • Anonymous

    Agreed.

Debates should not turn into cheering sections where candidates are just competing for the loudest cheers.

I personally think audiences should be silent for the whole thing.

Well, then you’re for negating a prime source of liberal talking points (as willfully obtuse and simplistic as they are…)

This was a silly decision at NBC.

She is one of the most beautiful women in the world!  In addition, she has to sit on “The View” with a group of liberal “cackling hens.”

B-list celebrity surrounded by D-list celebs on the View. Let’s play the reality card here: liberals have nearly cornered the market on victimhood. “I am not a victim” is practically a conservative mantra.

So without a cheering section Newt is going to boycott some of the debates.  I guess that means all of his dreams about wiping the floor with Obama on a debate wont happen as we all know Obama will get his way and have no cheering during presidential debates and Newt will be Newterd.

What this will do is turn supporters of the other two candidates into cheerleaders for their candidate and turn the debates into who can shout and applaud the loudest session.

    GOP – Golden Opportunity!

Galvanize the country on vilifying the media, academia, Hollywood, illegals and the unions.

Not only has the Right elevated victim-hood to an art form, they also are the polished experts of reverse-blame and projection. “I am not a victim” was in an era when Chuck Norris was cool. He is not anymore.

Did Newt seem a bit flat? Could it be he didn’t have an audience to play to?

Then you’re good, because those people don’t exist.

It sound like you’re the one having a nervous breakdown over liberals. Why do they scare you so much? It sounds like you’re just jealous because they speak the truth. There … I just rescurrected the Palin/Beck posts from about a year ago. You’re welcome.

  • Anonymous

Why? It’s not their job to provide support for the candidates.

So you hate the media (Fox News), smart people, the people who make ’24′, the people who pick your vegetables, and the people who make your cars?

Actually Sherri (a religious conservative) and Whoopi (an anti-tax economic conservative) have both taken positions contrary to liberal tenants.

He’s still a boring ESPN analyst who badly needs a personality transplant. Not sure why he was retained. Perhaps Peyton Manning or some other retiree will replace him for the 2012-2013 season.

I have seen her eyes and they seduce real conservative men (and some women).  Liberal men ( and some women) see her eyes and think they look a little wild, but that is because liberals are insecure about their own sexuality and their own political beliefs.

P.S. Michele was interviewed by Greta on Fox News tonight after The State of the Union Address.  She looked ravishingly beautiful in her white outfit and is clearly a strong, independent, attractive, intelligent, articulate and accomplished conservative woman!

  • Anonymous

You mean Sean Hannity’s 2000 nights of Reverend Wright.  He still talks about him and will mention him every night through November!

  • Anonymous

I do not believe that Elizabeth considers him to be her “backup”!

  • Anonymous

The moderator will be Wolf Blitzer.  Hopefully, the debate will be held in the University of Florida Gators Football Stadium (affectionately known as The Swamp) and cheering after each answer will be permitted.  Each candidate should be allowed to have his own cheerleading squad consisting of scantily dressed women, and alcoholic beverages should be served.  Now that would be a debate worth looking forward to!

  • Anonymous

NO!  Elizabeth would never make a sex tape.  It would make Paris Hilton and the women of “The View” very jealous!  They do not have either Elizabeth’s body or her brains!

  • Anonymous

Fox will hire her when she completes her two terms as President in 2028!

  • Anonymous

Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm is one liberal who makes my heart go “pitter-patter”.  The only way that a liberal could make me excited (not nervous) is for Ms. Granholm to put on her black boots, tie me up and sexually molest me for weeks at a time.  She might even convince me to become a liberal.

  • Anonymous

You have to be kidding.  Without her, the ratings on “The View” would suffer!

  • Anonymous

Ask Rosie O’Donnell?  The real reason she left the view was because she could not effectively debate Elizabeth.

Even Donald Trump is afraid of Elizabeth!

it’s the political equivalent of needing a laugh track. It tells you the product must be lacking something if it can’t stand on its own merits, and needs a bussed-in audience to cheer for it.

the problem is the liberal MSM far outweighs conservative media outlets.  ABC,NBC, CBS, CNN and the NYT even in 2012 is still far more powerful then anything on the otherside.  The average Obama voter didn’t know about either Reverend Wright or Tony Rezko.

  • Anonymous

    If you say so.

  • Cecelia

What they are providing is an opportunity for the public to take the measure of these candidates and to create opportunities for news..

Within THAT scenario the public reaction may either be that they burst into applause or into booing.  THAT provides a testing of the candidates.  It provides a narrative, and it provides context.

    They should welcome audience reaction.

  • Anonymous

They should organize their own debates with their own broadcast networks then. Oh wait they can’t. Guess they’ll have to have a civilized debate.

  • Tan

Bahahahaha! good one! Cons are NEVER victims, right? Wow.

  • Tan

Absolutely, you’re completely right. In addition, it makes the whole thing into a farce of a popularity contest – with the one with the best stage presence getting the loudest feedback and perhaps the one with the best and brightest ideas but less onstage charisma (bahahaha not in this field but for arguments sake) getting less. Gingrich knows he can do his babyish little temper tantrums and get the loudest feedback which the people at home will hear and translate into votes. And it goes without saying it shouldn’t be decided that way.

  • Anonymous

Oopsie!  I guess there is someone to feel sorry for!

  • Craig Horleman

Could it possibly be that the applause took up a good chunk of the debate and people would much rather hear what the candidates have to say rather than listen to a bunch of seals in the background? Nooo. It couldn’t possibly be that. It must be liberal bias. Yeah, that’s it.

  • Anonymous

Elisabeth, they are all republicans in the debate. It would be different if they asked the audience not to applaud Republicans during a debate between a Republican and Democrat. Also, it will stop the audience looking like fools when applauding executions, booing servicemen, and advocating the death of people who don’t have insurance in a health crisis.

  • Anonymous

    It’s a presidential debate blondie, not a reality show…oops…sorry.

  • Cecelia

With that logic the Lincoln-Douglas debates constituted a riot.

  • Cecelia

I like Barbara, she more or less stays neutral, and I love little Elizabeth, she is small but has the heart of a lion!  The other three are just street skanks that stay on their knees in front of their idol, Obambi, with their hands on his pants zipper.  Sickening!
