Fineman never says that the President has told him this or that he’s used those words, Fineman just says that it’s his interpretation of the President’s attitude. Now you do wrap the piece by pointing out that it’s not a direct quote, but Fineman’s paraphrase, but it looks to me that it’s really just an interpretation by an armchair psychologist or amateur mindreader.

Hell, flip your clipped quote around…

By itself, Fineman’s interpretation is pretty benign, but mostly at no point despite your headline, second paragraph or misuse of “paraphrase”, Fineman never claims that the President has said anything along these lines, it’s just what that one dude thinks about how another dude might feel.
