Howard Kurtz: CNN Leaving Spitzer Out Of Political Sex Scandal Story Is ‘Airbrushing History’

A recent story on CNN reviewed various political sex scandals in history and strangely didn’t mention a former New York Governor who just so happens to host a nightly show on CNN. CNN’s own Howard Kurtz similarly noticed the “glaring omission” and didn’t hesitate to criticize his own network.

Kurtz disapproving of the decision to leave out Eliot Spitzer:

“I’m sorry, if you’re going to do this kind of story, you have to include Eliot Spitzer. Even if he does now host a primetime CNN program, otherwise you are airbrushing history.”

Kurtz also read a statement from CNN saying that an individual producer made this decision, but other reporting on the channel did in fact include Spitzer. Given the increased scrutiny on all news channels throughout the day from various sources (including Kurtz), it’s odd to think that the producer did not think the Spitzer omission would raise eyebrows. Luckily though, now after this incident it’s likely Spitzer can rest assured that in the future he rightfully won’t be forgotten again in stories summarizing politicians who were caught in any sexual shenanigans.

Kurtz has been schmoozing Ailes for close to a year now. They don’t want another Shep Smith on their hands, so nothing will ever come of it. That is other than maybe another 18 months of 15% truth out of Kurtz.

Good for Kurtz. In chastizing CNN, Kurtz showed real integrity. I’ll give him credit on this one, but he is not consistently objective by any means.
