Intra-Office Parody? Who Is Joe Scarborough Mocking Here?

video

scarborough_11-2We’ve seen Ben Affleck’s impression on Saturday Night Live. Glenn Beck gave it a shot recently (it still needs a little work).

And this morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough took on the persona of his colleague Keith Olbermann as he mocked the lofty rhetoric of 2008 Election Night. Update: maybe.

Newsbusters caught the moment, which they describe as “beautiful.”

While discussing the Virginia Gubernatorial race – one of the three big races ending tomorrow, along with the New Jersey governor race and the New York-23 congressional race – Scarborough recalled the declarations that were being made about the state as Pres. Obama won a decisive victory in ‘08. If polls hold, the Republican candidate Bob McDonnell will defeat Democrat Creigh Deeds handily tomorrow, despite Pres. Obama’s campaigning for the Democratic candidate.

As co-host Mika Brzezinski uncomfortably tried to interrupt Scarborough, and others on set like Mike Barnicle laughed nervously, Scarborough took on the vocal inflections, mannerisms and tone of MSNBC’s 8pmET liberal host a liberal blowhard. “I heard that Virginia had been switched forever last year,” said Scarborough, before launching into his impression. “It’s a transformative night. Virginia, once solidly in the Republican’s column – it’s gone purple, my friends. This will change the landscape of America for the next generation! Or the next…eleven months, until Republicans kick their ass by twelve points.”

> Update: We listened again – could it be Ed Schultz? Maybe. Just a generic liberal blowhard? Could be. Here’s a clip of what seems to be Scarborough’s Olbermann impression. Is it the same? Maybe it’s a variation.

Here’s the clip:

Gee, I wonder who’s gonna make the “Worst Persons in the World” list tonight?

  • TfT TfT says:

It’ll never happen errxn. My guess is Rush will take the bronze, silver and gold on the WPITW segment tonight — that is if KO is in the chair.

For the record, I watched this this morning and had NO idea what Joe was doing and who he was supposed to be.

    He sounded like Jimmy Durante.

    Richard Nixon?

  • rmbltmbl rmbltmbl says:

that is keith olbermann, if only he kept interrupting her when she was talking about bringing in o’donnell

  • Kevin Ehsani says:

lol, that sounded more like LOD than keith.. joe has impersonated keith before and it sounds a lot different.

regardless of who it was, it was hilarious.

Nice to see the Olbermann-Scarborough animus hasn’t died down (cf. “Jesus Christ Joe”). It is ballsy for Scarborough to do this given Keith’s top-dog status. I remember a few months ago Ari Fleischer was on Morning Joe and compared Olbermann to Rush Limbaugh and nobody defended Keith. Regardless of one’s politics, I think these two incidents speak to Olbermann’s rumored severe douchebaggery.

It’s not a rumor, Pat. Check out the stories from ESPN… there is no debate. KO isn’t even allowed back in the building… not even for a reunion.

    He’s a jackass… it’s been well established.

I don’t know If I said it already but …Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks…

Good ol’ Joe. A Florida panhandle born-again Super-Christie hate-mongering right-wing hillbilly. We who know him best ne’er forget those facts of life. Impossible to hide them.

  • Pat Doherty Pat Doherty says:

Isn’t Scarborough reviled by other conservatives because of his criticisms of the “Religious Right” and the more ideologically-pure elements of his party? Just wondering.

CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin: Supreme Court Will Not Overrule ‘Deem and Pass’

    video

Bad news for Republicans should they be counting on using the Supreme Court as a last resort to block the Senate health care reform bill. Jeffrey Toobin visited Rick Sanchez today to talk about the chances of success Republicans will have if they try to legally oppose a "deem and pass" vote that would indirectly put the bill on the President's desk, and he didn't waste any time in telling the GOP that, quite simply, it's not going to happen.

CNN’s John King, USA Premieres On Web With Rehearsal Show

    video

There are two very distinct things to note about the way CNN has introduced the upcoming 7pmET show John King, USA to its audience - the show itself and the way it happened. John King hosted a trial run of the program today on CNN.com/live, which gave a sneak peek at what the show will be, but also gave viewers a chance to give their take on the first look.
