Iranian president Hassan Rouhani spoke publicly this morning about the “historic day” of the Iran nuke deal’s implementation yesterday following the lifting of sanctions.
After the IAEA confirmed that Iran has held to its promises, both the European Union and the United States lifted sanctions. Rouhani hailed the “patience and sacrifice” from Iran and its nuclear scientists.
“Rather than allowing the nuclear issue,” the president said, “to serve as an excuse for ill-wishers to place sanctions on us, to divide us and pressure us, the nuclear program will be used for the expansion of scientific, technological, and economic activities.”
He brought up how Iran was “under the pressure” of multiple U.N. and IAEA resolutions before again addressing those “ill-wishers” and saying they can no longer use the nuclear agreement as a “delusional excuse” against them.
