James Carville: If Sarah Palin Doesn’t Like Answering Questions ‘Then Stay In Alaska’

Video

Democratic strategist James Carville spoke with Don Imus this morning about the Republican field of presidential candidates. While Imus joked he had a better chance of being President than Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich, Carville was more interested in sharing his thoughts on Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin.

Carville though Romney would be a very strong candidate and admitted that based on his record in Massachusetts, “I can almost vote for him.” Imus agreed and humorously suggested, “he probably knows what Paul Revere did.” Imus hesitated to take further jabs at Palin and her view on Paul Revere, instead suggesting he felt sorry for her because it seems “like a bunch of people are trying to trick her.” Carville, however, had heard enough about Palin complaining about the questions she received:

“I mean come on. You want it on your terms, but you don’t want it on somebody else’s terms. And if you don’t like doing it, then stay in Alaska.”

And in Anthony Weiner news, Carville suggested Weiner did the one thing you can’t do as a politician, advising “if you go out and you can’t answer the question you better just not go out.” However, Imus very humorously corrected Carville: “two things you can’t do is take a picture of your weiner – as you know James – and then send it to anybody.”

Palin would do well to listen to Carville’s advice here. Palin needs to understand few of us are as absorbed with her as she is with herself, and that when you’re out there, you’re out there. At some point, even Palin’s most ardent fans and devotees have to realize that the victimization she decries is self-inflicted and greatly desired by her.

by the way, king, you’re a democrat. you vote for the party that exists purely on the premise that everyone outside a corporate boardroom is a “victim”.

Actually, I have worked in a corporate environment since I left the Navy.

Do these people not have a staff that briefs them?

Palin took question from the media that were following her like mendicant street urchins hoping for a cookie. Please ma’am, may I have some more? Not only that, she was far more gracious with them than they’ve been with her.

Of course, that doesn’t fit the narrative, does it?

Oh great, Gotcha Questions weren’t enough. Now we have to resort to Gotcha Statements.

And while we’re at it, I’m a little sick and tired of Gotcha History, Gotcha Science, and Gotcha Logic.

  • Azarkhan

Nice to hear from a has-been like James Carville.

  • Just4thefax

Fact: Well now we have it from Carville and he again is carbon copy of Bagalla interview the other day. Both are losers and have no added value.

    Another thought on the media….

They hate Palin with the mindless ferocity of a mob. They’re not in the least bit interested in fair reporting. They’re interested in making her a punchline. THAT’S their idea of a scoop.

Note that they don’t report on her positions on anything and everything from the economy to foreign relations. They report on her Paul Revere comment. This site included, by the way. She talked about energy, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya Sunday, and made valid points in each category. Yet – we’ve seen nothing – or not much – about that.

We’ve learned a lot about Paul Revere, though.

They want to catch her and get the back slaps from their colleagues for being the one, the hero, who made her stumble and, as often as not, they’re the ones who end up looking stupid. They’re embarrassing themselves and are far to arrogant to know it.

And she keeps partying like it’s 1773.

    Poor Old Beavis.

It’s hard to find work as an over the hill teen toilet humorist.

Maybe his old pal Butthead can get him a job at the burger joint…..

As one of the leading attack-dogs for the Demo-rats, Carville must be thinking Palin and Romney may be the two biggest threats to Obimbo. Carville would love to see Romney as the GOP candidate because they know he’s beatable. Newt may be the best debater but, he has far too much baggage to win the nomination.

No one cares what silly things she says about policy. She’s good looking, has legions of cult-like followers, and says stupid things. That’s enough for most of us. Also and America has there, Freedom and also, too.

  • MrTPar_taY

Carville’s a perfect example of what happens when adults mate with reptiles. I don’t like the way he looks or sounds-”Hey Carville, I won’t ask you about the circumstances of your birth if you slither back to the toad patch!”

I must disagree. It seems the MSM is quite absorbed with a half term gov from the northern most state that as no political office and not offically announced any intention to run for any office. She can’t MAKE these people follow her bus. At some point you can’t blame Fox News for Palin being in the news. You have to point the finger at CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, and yes even that channel that keeps us up on all things Fox News….. MSNBC. She can’t make them follow.

Bingo. That’s the left’s attitude in a nutshell. When your mind is made up, don’t confuse yourself with facts. They’re just so…..inconvenient.

The actual “gotcha question” was rather benign: “What have you seen so far today, and what are you going to take away from your visit?”

I”m glad you wrote this. She said with a straight face that this was a “gotcha” question. It actually makes “what newspapers do you read” sound difficult in comparison. These questions are benign, routine, simple and a part of campaigning for office…ANY office in this country. She obviously can’t handle them, so quit the ruse and stick with the reality TV already. She is making a fool of herself.

Carville, in his own way, was saying “if she can’t hunt with the big-dogs, she should stay on the porch”. Problem is, she’s bigger than all the dogs in this hunt! The neo-socialist, bottom-feeding Liberal Progressives are scared to death of her because she will gore their entitlement Ox! Can’t have that, no sir! Can’t have the parasites become dependent upon themselves because that reduces the power this government has over their lives and forces them to take responsibility, and reduces their voting base of power.
I’d like to read some remarks by Liberals on this blog that are specifically directed at what she actually says and not regurgitate the talking points of some Lefty attack-dog. Just exactly, what is the problem with her message?!

  • TfT

I’m laughing at Matt’s headline;sorry, but I simply can’t help myself. I guess using the Palin name is how he intends to get hits on this thread, but why not say someing like:

Carvile tells both Dems and Republicans, if you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

He said exactly the same thing about Weiner that he did about Palin, but only Palin gets shat upon in this article.

Come on mediaite, quite the biased reporting.

  • writer

Just imagine the number of posts an article about Palin would get if the left were ‘absorbed’ with her.

There seems to be an utter obsession with her. Even when she is not relevant people like you seem to bring her up. If the fringe media didn’t always try to drum up hate for her to appeal to you then she probably would have went away years ago. Every time she starts doing something else they bring her back; like when they tried to use murder and the death of innocents to push a vile political agenda. She was doing reality tv in Alaska, and they brought her back into the political spotlight. As long as your obsession with this women warrants coverage, deal with it.

  • Glackin

Matt, Palin keeps saying she is not running. Her acolytes here say the press is obsessed with her.
Why not make them both happy and declare Mediaite a “Sarah-free zone”?
Let her Garbo her way back to Alaska, or Arizona, or wherever people go when their fifteen minutes are up.

  • writer

If it would stop the left’s incessant whining about her, it would be worth it.

If Palin is smart she may want to get into the run for President. Then people will her her position on everything. Right now, she’s playing cat and mouse with the media and she makes for good press. And people love gossip. She’s not taking the run serious so why should anyone take her serious right now?

  • THE REAL ROYAL KING

Tatboy and VOR: You have both articulated reasonable and well-reasoned arguments. I don’t understand the Palin “phenomenon” if that is what it is. But, I don’t understand “The Real Housewives of ….” or “Jersey Shores” or any reality television show. I don’t watch them. Millions do. I do watch the news, I listen to the news, and I read the news. I admit that Ms. Palin and Familie Palin make up little of radio news or print news coverage. That is as it should be. Unfortunately, Ms. Palin and Familie Palin make up more broadcast news coverage than they would seem to warrant, and they make up a huge portion of cable “news” coverage. To the extent cable “news” bears a significant role in putting this rather inconsequential woman into my living room, a premise you so well developed and with which I agree, shame on cable “news”. For surely, if they refused to shine light on Ms. Palin and Familie Palin, her notoriety, her presence would be proportional to her importance, and she could return to Wasilla and worship at her own altar with no interference from any of us.

Thank you for your good posts.

  • writer

When some people don’t like what they’re seeing on cable ‘news’, they just watch something else. Others seem unable to do this.

  • Sue

Why? You guys don’t know facts when you hear them! Perhaps you should just STFU jimmy!!!!

Or she can go where she likes and ignore the press.

  • caconservative

Obimbo would do well to take that advise. Victimization, is that anything like the racist-robe Obimbo wears when things aren’t going right for him?
