James Carville: Rep. Weiner Wasn’t Popular In Congress Before And Now Pelosi Is ‘Furious’

Video

Former advisor to President Bill Clinton James Carville appeared with George Stephanopoulos on GMA to discuss the question of whether Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner could survive this scandal. Although many would argue Clinton’s controversy was much worse and he survived, Carville hinted at what ultimately might be the major difference between the two men: Weiner doesn’t seem to be particularly liked by elected Democrats.

Carville explained his doubts about Weiner’s ability to hold on:

“If nothing else comes out, again there’s nothing illegal, he probably can hang on at least until the election . . . but if the facts keep coming out . . . it’s going to be iffy. And one of the reasons is he’s a talented guy but he’s not a particularly popular guy in the caucus. They’re really mad at him. You can just see that former Speaker Pelosi is furious with him.”

Especially when the economy is in such a troubled state, Carville suggests Weiner’s distraction is something the public is justified to be “livid” with.

And Carville wasn’t just sour on Weiner’s behavior, he also had some critical words for President Obama. Carville warned, “when [Obama] talks about the positive news [in the economy] I actually think it makes people angry” given that unemployment is still so high. With polls suggesting candidate Mitt Romney would fare strongly in a head-to-head election with Obama, Carville seems eager to give some tough love to Democrats so that they can get their house in order now.

He’d probably leave if the Media keeps it in the front page, otherwise, move on, nothing to see here.

I’m not sure that’s the trick here. If the sum of his political ambitions is to remain the Congressman from his district, I should think he’s relatively safe up against any Republican. Such is the nature of gerrymandered districts. The real threat would be in a Democratic primary, and I see that threat coming only from Team Clinton. To that extent, Ms. Weiner hold the trump card. If she tells Hillary! to use, Weiner is gone. If not, he’s safe.

I agree with Carville. In the party as a whole, Weiner is not much liked.

I forget… is Carville on my team? That will determine how I feel about his comment.

You couldn’t tell by Carville’s remark about Weiner not being popular among his fellows?

Carville will always be a Clinton loyalist first.

Thing is, New York is about to lose two districts. Weiner’s might well be one of them, and he’s just made it a frontrunner.

Possible, although I thought the lost districts were going to be in the upstate wasteland.

This whole meme that the GOP resigns is just bs. Vitter, Sanford, Craig, None of them resigned and Ensign took two years.

Remember that Craig resigned, then didn’t.

  • Just4thefax

Fact: As the democrats shoved the Obama Healthcare down the throats of America and where getting told not to do it all across the country which in turn we saw 2010 shellacking at the polls Weiner was front and center on all shows blowing the Pelosi horn of victory as others were hiding. Even Carville was hiding from the front of camera’s then. Pelosi and the others owe him something even a kind word or even a safe exit from the scene.

One upstate, one near the city, if I heard correctly. Politico notes the possibility.

No. That was a feature that came with the premium package… and she only went with the “deluxe.”

Maybe next time she’ll splurge. Plus she’ll get the Bose radio and 6-disc changer.

I actually think Nancy may put her nose in this before Hillary. If she really is PO’d with Weiner she may use her power in the party to put a winner in the primary against him. Much like high school it may be that Weiner is unpopular and the cool kids kick him out of the “cool” table.

Can’t Buy Me Love was a great movie, wasn’t it……

He (Craig) was and is a bigger tool than Weiner… not saying he HAS a bigger tool. Just IS a bigger tool. Let’s face it Weiner is packing some HEAT!

Here is the bottom line, if “Li’l Tony” was a military officer, his career would be over, in fact he might be facing a little military prison time for lying in the first place. We call it conduct unbecoming of an officer. Pity our politicians can’t be held to the same standard. BOTH parties, lefties, both parties.

No one is going to take Carville’s sage advice for he has committed the cardinal sin. He dared to criticize Barrack and that simply can not be tolerated. Carville, you are toast in the Democratic party.

Talk about the sticks. And, I’m from Texas. I know the sticks. Poughkeepsie seemed more like the “Deliverance” part of Georgia. Yikes.

It is almost purely generational, indeed. In another 20 years, no one is even going to think about the Defense of Marriage Act.

He’s done it before. He went nuts about Obama’s slow response to the BP oil spill. Don’t you remember him saying: “We-ah dyin’ down he-ah!”

Facts coming out??? – I heard a Porn star surfaced today…not sure of the details, but heard it on the Radio when I came home.

Then when Weiner’s answer to the Q about using Gov’t phones and computers – he said he doesn’t remember ever instance, but didn’t think so (close to that) Translated that means he knows he did it, but hopes no one will find out.

    Big Ed wants Weiner out….NOW!

It is tough to be Weiner today!

Carvel is not my favorite guy in the world but he does tell it like he SEES it. You dont have to agree and many times I dont, but he is honest in what he does. The Democrats have no one as loyal as Carvel and Carvel is right about Obama and this administration.

Why not put The Weiner & The Boehner together, and have one glorious climactic moment??

    of what?

Pelosi is not going to do anything about Weiner. “Ethics investigation?” Meaningless. There was such an investigation on Rangel and he’s still in office.

It’s true that both sides have their scoundrels and miscreants–even criminals–but the difference is, the Republicans force theirs out of office while the Democrats huff and puff and do nothing.

Remember William “Cold Cash” Jefferson? He only left office because he was voted out by his constituents.

    THAT is funny.

Things where I grew up (Google “Happy Cows Greece”) were so bad that even the rainbows were in black and white. I had to walk 12 miles to school each day–uphill BOTH ways!
