John McCain: Trump Is ‘Having A Lot Of Fun’ But We Have ‘Serious Candidates’
The man still on everyone’s mind (Donald Trump, of course) came up during an interview with Republican Senator John McCain. Bob Schieffer asked McCain whether President Obama is trying to make Trump the face of the Republican party? McCain doubted that would happen, since he thought “Trump is having a lot of fun” and reminded Schieffer “we have very serious candidates.”
Just last week McCain revealed that he liked Trump but wouldn’t be endorsing anyone. However, now it seems like McCain is hinting towards preferring a more “serious” candidate. Regardless, McCain wasn’t eager to spend time talking about Trump and urged that attention should be focused on the debt limit and other important issues.
However, before we get to those topics, Schieffer squeezed in another question about Trump, wondering if McCain thought Trump was playing the race card (like Schieffer previously thought) by suggesting Obama only got into Harvard because he was black? McCain replied “I wouldn’t accuse him of that” and didn’t see the benefit of having a national conversation over such trivial issues.
