Lawrence O’Donnell Lauds Sen. Coburn’s ‘Brave’ Tax Battle With Grover Norquist

As host of MSNBC’s The Last Word, Lawrence O’Donnell is viewed by his both his fans and his detractors as a progressive thought-leader (though the connotation of that term is used in both celebratory and derisive ways.) In last night’s “Re-Write” segment, O’Donnell played against type by going well out of his way to praise GOP Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) for what the O’Donnel called a “brave” fight against conservative thought-leader and anti-tax increase pioneer Grover Norquist in a laudatory way rarely seen on MSNBC.

In an age of opiniotainment TV, it is very rare to witness an on-air personality giving valuable time to praise an ideological foe. Not only does it provide one of the most underrated element to entertaining programming, surprise, but it also gives the host a broader sensibility from which his or her critiques (and laurels) seem to have more meaning. It’s part of the reason we believe that “one side of the story is not enough,” and when it happens, it seems fair to point it out.

Sure, in the following clip, O’Donnell is staying close to his progressive comfort level, but it is still refreshing to see a liberal dole out praise to an ideological opponent. Wouldn’t it be great if we saw more of this on all cable news channels. Watch the clip below, courtesy of MSNBC:

Why would YOU put words ( progressive thought leader ) in ” real ” American’s mouths from a mouth that god only knows where it’s been ( yours ) ?

Conservatives, you know us ” real ” Americans, do not view O’Donnell at all other than the _____ you insist upon spewing here on MEDIAite. I can assure you that if we ever were to critique him ” thought leader ” would not even be close to how we would describe this jackass.

Also, who the _____ do you think you’re kidding ( besides yourself ) when you get down on your knees and actually pay homage to this grotesque excuss for a human being simply because he was down with what a conservative said and incorporated this into his nightly propaganda campaign.

Or maybe you were just ____ing with us to see what we would say ?

It seems it was more of a Machiavellian type praise, with the larger purpose being to attack the entire republican party.

BO said he wanted gas prices to rise to $5.00 or more per gallon. It looks like he’s getting his wish. His ignorant wish wil, however,l be the final nail in the coffin of his presidency. He is, and self-professed. So is Social Security, Medicare, the PUBLIC Health Service, etc.
And your problem with that is???????
BTW, Mr. Hall, on the same show, LOD commended Gov. Brewer, (R-Az), for vetoing the latest birther nightmare bill.
