Local Anchors Say ‘Poop’ A Bunch Of Times After Learning Of Cheeta The Chimp’s Death
Cheeta the Chimp, one of several primates used in the filming of the Tarzan movies, died of kidney failure on Christmas Eve. He was believed to be 80 years old. Katie Baker and Paul Horton, of KPHO in Phoenix, found some time in their newscast to honor Cheeta’s life with a little remembrance, and — as tributes to dead chimps usually do — it managed to work in the fact that he sometimes threw his poop around:
“Workers at the sanctuary say that Cheeta was outgoing. He loved finger painting, Paul. He liked to see people laugh. And when he was unhappy, he liked to fling his own poop around.”
This is the point when things began to spiral out of control.
“Sad to see you go there, Mr. Cheeta,” Horton remarked.
“Sad to see you go, but I’m glad I was never near you, Cheeta!” Baker added, laughing.
Eventually, the duo had to get to the weather forecast, and Horton had one of the greatest lines anyone will ever utter on a local newscast: “There’s no throwing poop at the seven-day, Katie!”
