Megyn Kelly Interviews The Man Who Almost Cut Up Occupy DC’s ‘Tent Of Dreams’

video

Rick Mingus was just an ordinary Washington DC ex-cop who liked to sit in the park — until one day, Occupy DC protesters pushed him over the edge…and he decided to pick up a pair of scissors.

Upset with the decay of McPherson Square, Mingus took matters into his own hands, risking life and limb by attempting to cut up the “Tent of Dreams’ tarp that quilted over the General McPherson statue — that is, until he was met with fierce resistance from Occupiers. “I’m a retired, tax paying citizen of Washington DC, and enough is enough with this!” Mingus told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly. “I’m not an avenging angel. I’m just an average person who has seen this park transformed into a beautiful spot where people can go for lunch, or just to go down and read a book, or whatever. It is now a desolate wasteland. The grass is gone. It is overrun by rats. It’s a dangerous spot. There are hypodermic needles all over the place laying on the ground. The place smells of urine, and it’s very disgusting.”

“I’ve had enough. because, you know, President Nixon used to call the American people the silent majority. Well, we have turned in now into the comatose majority, and something needs to give here. I mean our politicians don’t listen to us. For example, the Mayor of this city plus members of the city council has embraced these people. This has cost the city almost a million dollars in support, back up support for the US park police, or when these people decide to block a highway in the city, plus the trash pick up, and other items.”

On Monday, The Daily Caller’s Michelle Fields was a witness to how far the protest has degenerated. She valiantly faced down an Occupy DC protester who spewed a misogynist slur at her during an interview. Unfazed, Fields kept on reporting. “The cops were supposed to show up at noon to make sure that the protesters had removed camping equipment from McPherson Sqaure,” Fields told Mediaite. “The cops showed up at around 12:15pm to a swarm of media and then immediately left.”

    The lines are drawn people.

Civilized behavior = Tea Party = GOP
Uncivilized behavior = OWS = Democrats

    Simple choice.

Did any Democrat-supporting OWS rioters pelt any little Catholic girls with condoms today?

These people are disgusting.  If they want their voices heard write an editorial and encourage others to vote for whatever they want voted for.  Taking public spaces and private businesses hostage should only result in them being arrested and shunned by the political parties. Too bad one party in particular supports them.

Your comment provides insight as to yours and other Socialist’s perception of an OWS event:  Threatening, menacing and intimidating.  While avoiding the reality of unsavory, filthy, vulgar and inarticulate!  AS I asked one of chums above: are you proud of your associates?

However, for the purposes of this comment, the reference to potential violence is salient.  I thought such was contrary to the OWS philosophy?  However, Socialism and “violence” are old friends, aren’t they?

Truthfully, this OWS “thing,” sounds more like a “Black Widow Motorcycle Club” Rally, are you a member?  You remember the “Black Widows?”  That clumsy, inept club from the Clint Eastwood movie: “Every Which Way but Loose?”  Ouch!

It doesn’t appear, rather, is a fact.  The Leftist bullying, straight out of Lenin’s handbook manages to convince the powers that be, it is easier to ignore the Law and let the rabble have their way.

    Your syntax, are you British?

I’m not being rude, it’s just a game I play. Sun Tzu’s lessons about knowing your enemy, choosing the field of battle, deception and so on…

On Mediaite, we are given only an avatar and some writing and I like to see what I can learn strictly from that. For instance: your use of the word “rather” in the first sentence, is peculiar to Great Britain…

And NO, I do not perceive you as an enemy!

Neutral principle is a consistent process, ethics (reason) versus morality (emotion) I see neutral principle contained in America’s Governmental treatises, only not by that name. (perhaps “equal protection” comes closest) Law Professors Learned Hand and Herbert Wechsler discussed NP, years ago. I am expounding and expanding the thesis.

Respectfully, let me correct you: You wrote “obeyed equally.” Rather, “applied equally.” Human beings do have free will? Even if such leads to foolish decisions, neutral principle will be waiting for them…

I am confused.  Who is “lying with impunity?”  Are you suggesting a Conservative in this event is lying, how so?

Are you familiar with the court case Hill v. Colorado?  A woman, it was determined has a right to a “bubble of protection,” from a group that opposes her, exercising her own rights.

Given the “principle” established in Hill v. Colorado, shouldn’t Mr. Mingus have a similar right not be accosted in such a way and in such proximity, to the OWS crowd?

I guess it all depends on whose Ox is being gored, doesn’t it?

    Purveyor of Rhetoric

He is no hero for what he did, and he had no right in trying to cut it down!  Fox, also over dramatized the event, like they usually do, by saying he was “risking life and limb”.  Over dramatizing a story helps FOX play to their viewers, and they know that.  He should have left it to those that had the authority.  Parks belong to everybody, not just him, and if he didn’t like what he was seeing he should have done what most law abiding citizens with any common sense do and report the situation to those in authority.  FOX by interviewing this guy is justifying his actions even if they don’t make any references what this guy did was wrong.  They are a major part of what is wrong with this country by advocating such actions are acceptable.  What will they advocate for next to satisfy their viewers?

  • Anonymous

Of course they have a Right to protest!  The question is/are, the time, place and manner of the protest.  Numerous Supreme Court decisions, such as Lemmon v. Kurtzman and Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire have made clear that the first amendment, as will all of the Bill of Rights, is/are NOT absolute!

There are “time, place and manner” considerations at issue, as one civil liberty does not take precedence over another civil liberty.  Which is what tends to take place in situations like OWS.  NO!  Throwing a rock, or defecating on a Police Car, is not protected speech!

Do you comprehend the issue of conflicting rights?  Government and/or the Courts must apply “equal protection,” which can be difficult when the Media does not present important subtleties, such as I mentioned above.

    Purveyor

They had no right to put it up, and the police ordered them to take it down. Like I said, he was trying to clean up the trash. If someone litters, don’t you clean it up? The park doesn’t belong to the squatters. Good for him for trying to clean up the public park.

If the police had ordered them to take it down, the police would have done it themselves if they failed to follow the order.  So why should have he done this act if it was already being taken care of?  Again, he should have let the police handle this situation and stayed out of it until they were gone.  I understand this park is known to be a park where drug abusers normally hang out and litter the park with their needles, long before the Occupy came and occupied the park, so why would he want to go their in the first place?

    UNCLE,

That was an insightful and accurate profile I put together on you, a few days ago. Even the rather vulgar last sentence, referring to your “toilet” habits, was apropos.

Duke, a room full of fooles, yet containing one man of erudition, is still a room full of fooles, and one wise man. Mediate is comprised, mostly of Leftists, uncouth and/or unsophisticated.

No matter what the ratio is on any given thread, that there may be more left than right, does not change the reality of where the superior intellect resides, does it? Ergo, YOU and your like minded friends can declare victory in a debate by way of volume, however, that simple “declaration,” does not make it so.

Two plus two, will always equal four, logic and reason will prevail over emotion and poor preparation. Argumentation is a skill that can be taught and learned, hence, can be known if the “skill” exhibited is good, bad, or indifferent. Also, who has won, and who has lost..
