Michael Bloomberg: Let New Immigrants Into America As Long As They Agree To Live In Detroit
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg appeared on Meet the Press and unveiled a creative and somewhat strange idea about how to kill two birds with one stone. Bloomberg’s unique approach to help re-energize the economy, while also tackling the problem of illegal immigration: allow new immigrants into America so long as they agree to live in Detroit, Michigan.
Bloomberg’s magical plan:
“If I were the federal government, assuming you could wave a magic wand and pull everybody together, you pass a law letting immigrants come in as long as they agree to go to Detroit and live there for five or ten years.”
Bloomberg suggested immigration policy is a no-cost way to fix a lot of the country’s economic problems. Well, bold thinking should never be completely dismissed from the table, and Bloomberg’s lack of an affiliation with a political party allows him to go out on a limb like this. However, it doesn’t seem likely that the mayor of Detroit, who at least receives a compliment from Bloomberg here, wants the mayor of another city to be telling him to open his borders and how to run an economy.
