Olbermann’s Brief History Of Testimonies To Congress More Ridiculous Than Colbert’s

video

The aftershock of having faux political commentator Stephen Colbert testify in character before Congress is still receding, and as if Megyn Kelly‘s reality hadn’t been crushed enough by Colbert’s cameo, Keith Olbermann took a moment last night to list some of the sillier moments in congressional hearing history that included Mark Twain, an army of baseball players, and, yes, Elmo from Sesame Street.

This preceding comments from various Fox News personalities expressing outrage at the fact that Colbert would appear at all. After taking some shots at those comments and exhibiting other, sillier testimony from the past, Olbermann played Colbert’s comments with little addition commentary from himself, emphasizing the point that migrant field workers were the topic of discussion and that Colbert took his responsibility relatively seriously (except, he notes, his facetious endorsement of the Pledge to America). He snidely notes “to the right” that Colbert quotes Jesus in his reason for why he has chosen this issue to endorse and that, as for Elmo, the Congressman who invited him over is serving time for tax evasion and bribery.

You know who else can’t testify to Congress ? …Mohammed …. In fact , no one can even imagine what he looked like . That’s why next month’s BILL MAHER LET’S ALL DRAW MOHAMMED DAY is so important . Every participating artist is planning to turn the lights on in their house the night of Oct. 28th as they sketch or paint on crayon their rendition of the image of Mohammed , all in the spirit of good fun . Bill has asked anyone who may have questions on this to please call him or just show up at the taping of his next delightful TV show .

I absolutely LOVE YOU, Big Eddie!!

Can they make the painting out of excrement, like that art exhibit that featured a picture of Mary?

I haven’t cleaned my cat’s litter box in a couple of days. I’m starting my drawing right now!

Vote Democrat and keep buffoons in D.C.!

  • notsofast

Hey, putting KO before Congress would be the same as Elmo.

  • jk76

haha funny, a person goes before congress and does his satirical act….this is the same as another person?

I thought his jokes were hilarious, but this was seriously out of place. You couldn’t tell just from the silence and awkwardness of the panel and audience? Elmo was there for musical instruments in schools, weird yes, out of place I don’t know since I didn’t see it. Baseball players…they didn’t just show up for a cause you fuckin idiot KO. I don’t know about Mark Twain being there but whatever.

It’s ok, CarrotTop is scheduled for Halloween since he’s already a pumpkin

  • writer

There’s a mouse tail in my drawing! Guess I could use that for the moustache.

  • roxsteady

I’m not sure what the point of this story is? Did Keith get the facts right? “Tell the Truth and Duck”!

  • notsofast

Micheal J. Fox testified about stem cell research for Parkinson’s’ disease, a disease he suffers from, Clint Eastwood, as a small business owner, testified on impact of the ADA on small businesses, and Loretta Swit, an animal rights person, testified about the abomination of “crush videos”- videos that show animals being killed.

Mark Twain, a writer, about copyrights.

But in KO’s world a pompous comedian IN CHARACTER telling unfunny jokes is the same thing.

    Can’t wait until 11/2/2010.

And that is what makes you a hypocritical POS, because I could just as easily say Colbert was there to defend illegal immigrants.

    Now GFY.

  • Azarkhan

Having Colbert testify in character was a disaster and made the Democrats look ridiculous. Of course, Keith Olbermann is also ridiculous so it’s not surprising he doesn’t get it.

Will you libs get your talking points together?

The other day , a lib said this had Zero to do about illegal immigrants but was about migrant workers. Now it’s back to being about illegal immigrants.

    make up your benighted minds.

    1.), “a lib” doesn’t speak for me
2.) moron above is weighing in on something that he didn’t watch, in either the case of Elmo or Colbert.

Fox News: We proudly pander to Teabaggers says: “2.) moron above is weighing in on something that he didn’t watch,”

First, I think he gets this arrogant ignorance from his commander, Glenn Beck.

Second, you need to change your tag line from “proudly pander to Teabaggers” to “proudly pander to, campaign and fund raise for Teabaggers.”

Point is that Fox is not a news network. It has become overwhelmingly obvious this year of the Tea Party candidates avoiding genuine media, where they’ll have to answer real questions, to stay on Fox where they get a pass to campaign and raise money. Angle is on tape bragging about how quickly she raised money being on Hannity.

The extent to which Fox has caused mass dementia is in evidence on these comments. Sometimes, the only honest comments are the crass spam for Shoe World or The Pantie Pantry. I’m not going to name names, but when we read that Olbermann is on par with Elmo, when we read that no one can even imagine what Mohammad looked like, or that liberals EVER have their talking points together (when they don’t have nor desire a Glenn Beck figure to tell them what to think); then we see just a hint, just a taste of the mass dementia that Fox has engendered and enabled.

I’m not arguing that no one on the left displays dementia, but their assertions don’t tend to wonder off the page of sanity nearly as often.

What would be nice is to have sanity restored in comments. Put away the tin foil hats and the Fox Republican Tea Party talking points and discuss immigration, tax policy, progressivism, Libertarianism, and even Overton’s window in a reasoned and non-insulting manner.

I suspect that this is about as realistic as getting Mediaite to post two stories for every story: one for the children and one for the adults. That won’t happen either.

I don’t feel the least bit ridiculous. Steven lent his time and talent to a cause he cared about , he was funny and made a point. What really looks ridiculous to me is the efforts to blow this all out of proportion with lame partisan BS. It’s obvious the GOP has done the same type of thing and it’s a pretty minor issue either way.

I like the way Colbert took Gretchen Carlsons criticism.
Are we supposed to sit her and take this? No Gretchen, you are supposed to sit there and blow it out of proportion – it’s in your Contract.

She got so upset, her hair almost moved!!!!

I heard that Kiefer Sutherland is going to testify before the secret House Comittee on Intelligence. Sutherland’s area of expertise: he played Jack Ryan on 24. He’s following Sean Connery, Pierse Bronson and Roger Moore

That’s all you got? It’s my rule and I’ll break it if I want.

How about explaining the leap from Olby to Beck instead.

You reading comprehension is wanting. Other than the comment where I take you to task for breaking your rule (lack of self-discipline), I have only one comment that doesn’t address Olbermann in the slightest. I was addressing We Proudly Pander to TeaBaggers (a disdainful and pornographic allusion to the Tea Party that I don’t use) wrote in response to the witless and vile notsofast.

Your absurd, biased assimilation of my remark has already been countered (above) by BlackWidow. YOu need to stay on the children’s version of the stories that Mediaite posts (I wish) where throwing mud and name calling is standard fare. In other words, what part of reasoned and non-insulting manner do you not get?

Why are you libs as dumb as rocks. Look at what a top Dem said about Colbert, you trogs:

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) was neither humored nor pleased with Stephen Colbert’s recent testimony before the House Judiciary committee’s subcommittee on immigration, calling it an embarrassment for the Comedy Central host.

“I think his testimony was not appropriate,” said Hoyer, during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.” “I think it was an embarrassment for Mr. Colbert more than the House.”

“You asked me, Chris [Wallace] whether the testimony was appropriate,” he added. “I think it was not appropriate.”

Your reading comprehension is non-existent. You referred to Beck twice in your post on a article about Olby & others. Still no explanation why every article you read and then post on contains references to Beck. You have no room to criticize ANYONE about ANYTHING with such an unhealthy obsession. Yeah yeah yeah, we’ve heard your rationalization for your Beckobsession…watchdog…blah blah blah. The closest you’ll ever to get to a watchdog is buying a German Shepard.

you call BW’s comments a counter?? HA

  • Jenigma

So it’s a “waste of time” for Colbert to bring national attention to migrant workers, but O’Donnell’s anti-masturbation crusade is worthwhile national dialogue? Face it, this hearing was going to pop off with a celebrity no matter which, would you have preferred J-Lo? Corporations can’t rake in the profits they seem to require without illegal Mexicans, you have to face that fact and stop blaming politicians, who only do their corporate masters’ bidding (not their constituents’), after all. Buy local or STOP COMPLAINING “DEY TOOK UR JAHHHBS!!!!”

YOu’re a tool following a huckster like Mr. Beck, and I’m the “obsessed” one between us. OOOOO kay.

I can’t help your reading disability. I wasn’t responding to the content of this story; I was responding to what FoxNews: We proudly pander to Teabaggers wrote. Stand Up, tell us for the record: what elementary school grade did you drop out?

You’re also a pathetically poor observer. I don’t address Beck on every story page. He is the subject of my focus. Your (childish) biased assimilation understands “obsession;” adults appreciate the public service that I’m performing, my yellow flag operation. Warning, this commentator is an unprincipled, reactionary deceiver:
