O’Reilly Praises Brit Hume For Lack Of Bias — Liberal Blogs Say “Whaaa?!?!”
Fox News anchors: never too proud to praise former Fox News anchors. After Brit Hume raised the question of whether Obamacare would turn America into a socialist country, Bill O’Reilly went out of his way to praise him for keeping his personal beliefs out of his analysis of the news:
O’REILLY: Now you’re not an ideologue. You have strongly held beliefs, but I’ve never heard you analyze a situation from a conservative or liberal viewpoint. You don’t, you don’t do that. Do you object when that’s done?
HUME: Well, no, because, I mean, I think it’s a perfectly appropriate thing to do. I mean, people believe in their ideologies in America, I think, for practical reasons because they think that, for example, freewheeling capitalism…
O’REILLY: Is better for them.
HUME: …individual liberty is better for the country.
O’REILLY: Better for them, right.
HUME: Better for the country.
O’REILLY: Right.
In his defense, Hume went out of his way to provide a fair and balanced argument in favor of liberal beliefs:
HUME: Strong national defense, the things that we associate with conservatism. Liberals believe, on the other hand, that that leaves the door open to too much injustice and too much inequality and too much danger of involving us in conflicts around the world that we shouldn’t be involved in, and that we’re better off going in another direction. Those are honest, ideological differences.
The liberal blogosphere has amassed a laundry list of purported biased statements by Brit Hume, like his description of Democratic Representative John Murtha as an “absolute fountain” of “naivete” for his stance on Iraq, his readiness to link the falling stock market with Obama, and his claim last June that he was “not so sure” that Obama is Christian. Sourcing-minded folks were particularly rankled by his statement that his team had relied on the conservative Media Research Center for “a daily buffet of material.”
Hume has his roots as an old-school print journalist, and he’s generally more circumspect than many at Fox, but his “never” taking conservative stances is a pretty obvious stretch.

ImNotBlue says: Why does this site keep referencing the bluest of the blue blogs, when time after time they’ve been caught lying, editing, misrepresenting, and distorting the things that those on FOX say? They’re all known for referencing the other, who intern references back to them, and they call this “evidence,”
Unless I see a video segment from commercial to commercial, or the entire transcript… I’m not prepared to believe anything these sites say about FOX. That’s just relying on past history.

m says: Brit Hume is *more* fair than most Fox News anchors. Doesn’t mean he’s perfectly impartial. He clearly is conservative. You could tell that when he hosted his show, and you can still tell that in his analysis.

Is any host “perfectly impartial?” Hume stacks up with the rest of them as being an exceptional journalist, who was able to keep his bias in check as much as can be expected.

Janet Napolitano May Have Been Right…And Other Flight 253 Truths
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano may have given conservatives a great new t-shirt idea yesterday by claiming that the system "worked like clockwork" once the flight 253 incident had occurred (a disclaimer that rendered the statement meaningless), but there may actually be some truth to the notion that the system worked. Napolitano's statement (since "clarified") was a wrongheaded attempt at reassurance, it seems that a whole bunch of other people have an interest in making you as scared as possible.
Obama’s Three-Day-Late Press Conference On Flight 253
President Obama stepped away from his Christmas vacation in Hawaii to hold a short press conference in order to address Friday's averted terrorist attack aboard Northwest Flight 253 as well as the escalating conflict in Iran. The President appeared without tie, or teleprompter, to reassure the nation that "we will not rest until we find all who were involved and hold them accountable" and that "the American people should be assured that we are doing everything in our power to you keep you and your family safe and secure during this busy holiday season."
