Pentagon Reporter: ‘See This Room? Two-Thirds Of Us [Would Be] Laid Off If Ron Paul Is President’

Video

C-SPAN microphones caught a group of Pentagon reporters chatting as they waited for President Barack Obama to take the podium and discuss military budget cuts.

Among their topics of discussion? What a Ron Paul presidency might mean for their jobs.

The comment pops up in the video below around the :27 mark:

See this room? Like, two-thirds of us laid off if Ron Paul is president.

But at least you’d be able to drink as much raw milk as your little hearts desire.

Have a listen, via C-SPAN

    Sounds like a plan!

  • Anonymous

This is possibly the most persuasive argument in Ron Paul’s favor.

  • Anonymous

Barry should make Ron his Sec Def.  They’d make a great team!

  • Anonymous

    Well, see ya later!

  • Anonymous

“See this room? Like, two-thirds of us laid off if Ron Paul is president.”

He says that like it would be a bad thing.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

You mean real actual cuts to government spending?  A REAL conservative?  Awesome!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

    Probably a CNN reporter.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Politics-culture-Reasoned-America/100001284363960 Politics-culture Reasoned Amer

Now if we could apply that same 2/3 to the rest of Obama’s Democratic-Advocacy Media, we’d be talking!

  • Anonymous

And how many will be laid off if Obama wins another term?

  • South Park Conservatives

Here’s where i would say ” but there’s no Liberal media” . Thing is, Ron Paul, like most Liberals, would destroy our military.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Politics-culture-Reasoned-America/100001284363960 Politics-culture Reasoned Amer

    Breaking now on Cavuto!

Rep. Bill Johnson raised the IMPEACHMENT possibility over the Junta Leader’s recess transgressions. Johnson is consulting with a legal team tomorrow.

Take him in with the cameras rolling and the raincoat & cuffs – Hope & Change Baby!!

I don’t understand the comment.  Can somebody explain it for me?

  • Charles Ulysses Feney

At least Ron Paul served this country in our military, unlike the rest of the Gingrich – Romney –  Cheney – Limbaugh cowardly shit-their-pants ChickenHawk crowd!

  • Mo Fokker

Establishment Republicans running for president want to increase the headcount at the Pentagon, not to mention at pseudo private companies that build weapons and provide catering services for our troops. It is part of their “Jobs for America” program.

    P.S.
That is why they are liars when they call themselves small government conservatives.

  • D L

    Amen, dude.

I hate it when Republicans (even though I am one) start barking orders at everyone else despite never lifting a finger to fight for their country.

If Cheney, Romney, Limbaugh or any other chicken-hawk fought in a war, they’d all be staunch anti-war activists because of it.

  • D L

    I’ll assume you’re being serious.

The idiot reporter heard on the tape thinks that a President Paul would take their precious media jobs away, because he plans on cutting a huge portion of the Pentagon budget if elected.

Everyone knows those in media always find a job somewhere else, because of the revolving door practice…!

  • Anonymous

I think that would be a great thing to do …I just moved my vote to Ron Paul! …The reporters now are just Obama’s cheering squad and wasting space .. most reporters ask Obama about his favorite NBA pick… We need ones that actually “Question authority”!

  • Anonymous

Getting the anti-Paul GOP members out of Congress would be a good idea, they don’t care about conservative values, they’re frauds.

  • Anonymous

Ron Paul has the highest military support of any candidate.

  • Anonymous

Bush made recess appointments, what’s your point?

  • Anonymous

    Any Republican candidate. . .

  • Anonymous

I’m not wishing for anyone to get laid off.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Politics-culture-Reasoned-America/100001284363960 Politics-culture Reasoned Amer

    Very funny, Charles.

  • Anonymous

There is no Liberal media.  Pres. Obama is often called a Liberal and he is not destroying the military.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Politics-culture-Reasoned-America/100001284363960 Politics-culture Reasoned Amer

Never when the Senate was in pro-forma session, except Bolton, during two conflicts and on national security grounds; all other appointments were when the Senate was recessed.

  • http://twitter.com/mattparkerfl Matt Parker

Ron Paul is making the Republican establishment sweat because the GOP electorate is disgusted with the rest of their 2012 field and they understand that Paul is really the only conservative in the bunch. Romney and Gingrich and Santorum are conservatives in name only, waving their Tea Party banners while pushing for a big government GOP agenda on social issues and corporate welfare. I would not be shocked if Ron Paul were to get the nomination. http://www.sunstateactivist.org

  • Henry Wood

So he never did it except for when he did it.

  • Anonymous

I still don’t get it.  Are you saying that the Pentagon is paying the media?

  • clever

I would never vote for Ron Paul with the exception of this being true he would be a shoe in for president.

  • Anonymous

Just like Obama is not a chicken hawk as he volunteered and served 4 tours.  When he said to send 150,000 kids to Afghanistan no one would blink an eye because of his service.  The reason why Chuck voted for Obama over chicken-hawk McCain is because McCain fled to Canada rather than fight.

  • Anonymous

    Duh! That’s the point.

  • OSTL

a war was breaking out, asshat

  • OSTL

Hate to say it, but, 2/3′s of those people probably don’t do jack shit!

  • OSTL

    Millions of private sector workers.

  • OSTL

    you’re not fooling anyone

  • Anonymous

No problemo, Obama attended to that matter today.

  • shonangreg

Can you imagine telephone operators looking at the new computer and saying, “If this thing goes to market, 98% of us will be unneeded”? Combating such arbitrary machinations of entrenched interests, unions and corporations and the wealthy, etc., is one of the goals of a progressive administration.

In such cases, granting more liberty to current powers would result in less liberty for all Americans. And Ron Paul would once again feel not responsible. He is frigidly isolated from real world authority and responsibility.

Libertarianism is a hypothesis. Is has not been tested. I know, you consider early America as a test. However, it had slaves to victimize and a continent to steal. We can’t repeat that scenario.

So, if libertarianism really has something to offer, why aren’t you supporters doing something practical — like setting up a place to try a libertarian experiment? It would take national laws and exemptions, but you could at least do a partial test in two or three sections of some states: idaho, New Hampshire, and Missouri, the “show-me” state. I know such a test would be hard to set up. You’d have to limit corporate management inflow and worker-residency outflow to mimic real-world limitations (everyone can’t move out at a national level), but surely trying some small tests would be wiser, and much easier, than doing the first experiment on America at-large. What if your hypothesis fails? America would be SOL.

Smaller military and fewer wars = less to report on and fewer reporters. Trickle down.

  • Henry Wood

We aren’t at war right now, sweetie?

  • Em_pty Skin

Montana gets around Federal laws by an honor system of not exporting weapons outside the State border.  It is close to secession movements or actions.  The Free State Project is another example.  They need a certain amount of people to sign up though, I think.

The actual libertarian secession movements are in Brazil and are currently being worked in as law.  We’ll see in a few years how they develop.

Laying off Federal worker s is exactly what we want to do.  Let that money be invested in private production markets.  It is not difficult.

  • Anonymous

If by destroy you mean change them back to constitutional design then yes. Where is it written that we are to be the world peace keepers and send our young men and women to die for purposes other than the defense of this great country. Now the liberals intent is to destroy our military so that we cannot defend ourselves. Slight difference there.

  • Anonymous

Oh, I see.  Thanks.  But I can’t reconcile that with the quote.

  • Anonymous

Really Paul is no different than any other politician. When I say no different I don’t mean his ideas aren’t different, they are. But to implement ideas and plans as president is not easy and is not his decision alone. He wouldn’t be able to make all of these massive cuts and get rid of departments like he says. He would not be a dictator and would be unable to get the things done that he says he wants to do. He knows that. Every president left and right come in with big ideas, but soon find out that governing is a different story.

  • Anonymous

You don’t know what Pentagon reporters cover, do you? LOL

  • Anonymous

Hilarious to see all the right wingers in here commenting that it’s a good idea for people to lose jobs.

    HILARIOUS AND PATHETIC

  • Anonymous

That comment is a classic example of how these guys think they know more than they do.  Here is a crowded room of people being paid to report what Obama reads off a teleprompter.  Everyone knows he can read and we don’t believe a word of it.. so there is little interest in seeing it.

Now move forward to a Paul presidency.  He tells the truth and he speaks off the cuff with no teleprompters and you can believe what he says.   The news outlets will have to hire at least 1/3 more people to cover the attention he’ll generate.

Stop fighting it it’s obvious to everyone he’s the guy that can beat Obama now.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F76GBN4MI5XBLSWZGZ6QXOILEM Michael

Rational argument from facts, Snowspot ?? Amazing.  Aren’t you in the wrong place here in this blog among the delusional far-right loonies?

Civility, reason  – what a wonderful debate; restores your faith in democracy.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F76GBN4MI5XBLSWZGZ6QXOILEM Michael

I think you meant “shoo-in”, mr. clever.  Learn to write before you call yourself “clever”.

  • Meredith Carroll

Actually, no, Paul beats Obama as well in military donations.

    http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2012/01/military-donors-still-prefer-paul.html

Obama shouldn’t lose heart, though. He crushes Paul when it comes to donations he’s received from corporations (including Comcast and Time Warner…don’t they have a lot to do with the media…?) and banks.

    http://www.opensecrets.org/pres12/contrib.php?cycle=2012&id=N00009638

Ron Paul gets about 1/10th of the support from Big Business that Obama does. Make of that what you will. What I make of it is that one of them has been bought by the corporations, and his initials are not “RP.”

I am at a loss as to how mediate missed this story. To concentrate on a reporter comment is not professional journalism. As you did not get the news, I will post it for you.

haha! He did not say IF Paul is president. He said WHEN Paul is president.

Two-thirds of Pentagon reporters laid off?

    I don’t see that as a problem….

  • Anonymous

If you understood what he meant, what’s the big deal?

  • Anonymous

When the jobs are parasitical, like reporters that exist only to cover war (or government employees), then yes I am in full support of their loss.

Besides I’m sure they can find gainful employment elsewhere.  Maybe chasing princesses…

  • http://twitter.com/BtterflyDragon Butterfly Dragon

This actually makes me want to vote for Paul.

  • Charles Ulysses Feney

Ron Paul has more Military donation support than all other candidates from both parties – COMBINED!!!!

  • Anonymous

Barry would NEVER do that because he’s a shill for the war profiteers.

Just like how Willy, George and Dick were shills for the war industry.

Just like how Willard, Newt and Rick promise to be in the tank for the war machine.

  • http://twitter.com/ZackyBeatz %Zackyatz%Music

    me too exactly

  • Anonymous

3 thirds would be a good start & we can all tune in to BBC and Al Jazeera and join the rest of the informed learned knowledgeable  world

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jj-Wisniewski/100002654075475 Jj Wisniewski

Getting two-thirds of the people out of the Pentegon would be a good thing. Except for the soldiers who are actually out in the field all the bureoucrats are useless in all the services. I served in Nam and served a total of 4 years. Most of the office jocks don’t have much to do and just wait around for the day to end. In this case I think Obama is doing the right thing by trimming the defense budget. It’s too freakin inefficient and bloated just like the rest of the agencies.

  • Anonymous

The media are doing a great job getting me to vote for Dr Ron Paul. I can’t believe how effective the media are at rallying people behind him with the unfair and even insane behaviour of the corporate media

  • Anonymous

What the HECK are you talking about??  Who is talking about Libertarianism… What does this have to do with the comment you’re replying to?!

  • Anonymous

Sounds pretty darn good to me!

  • shonangreg

Oh, I’m sorry. I thought Ron Paul was an advocate of libertarianism and that the Pentagon Press room would be 2/3 empty because of libertarian policies.

Please explain to me my mistake in these assumptions, ebm120 ;-)

  • Anonymous

Yeah just go to any company and see the amount of employees they had in 2007. Than check to see what they have today.

Ron Paul is right about the FEDS. They print money, they currulate it through the banks first, and then they charge us interest on unearned wealth as if it was wealth! Which contributes on the fact that most Americans have to work like a dog just to pay bills because the prices for stuff keeps going up. Ron Paul wants to end the Federal Reserve and allow the United States gov to print the money with no charge on interest. Also to set us up on a market value gold standard so that are money will be with something again. The media calls that plan INSANE!!!!!

  • Mark81150

oh please,… being against Ron Paul’s lunatic isolationist Lindburgh style hide under the bed and the world will be nicer to us is the sane conservative view..

Paul can’t get above a minority of even conservative voters, yet he’s the “real” conservative?

Been one myself since 72,… don’t need some fringe libertarian (not conservative) to explain it to us. He can run as the Donald Duck candidate, but he is no more a conservative, than Obama is a JFK democrat.. that’s the vanity of liberatarians, trying to put a veneer of respectability on what is patently unrespectable.

Nobody today thinks Lindburgh’s America First group was right, Paul is no different. Just as devastatingly ignorant, wrong, and vindictively nasty as Lindburgh’s (the nazi’s are are friends) group of fools.

You can make an argument on the economy, but he’s insane on everything else.

  • Anonymous

This is really funny…didn’t Obama just propose that very thing in his Pentagon speech yesterday…

  • http://twitter.com/drlax15m David Redmond

Wow, what a misquote, “two thirds of us laid off WHEN Ron Paul is President” is the actual quote

  • Anonymous

Yes, but he’s a flip flopper.

  • Anonymous

Socialism has never worked and is responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths. Socialism is collapsing in Europe and the blue states where it is tried.

Yet the Democrat Party is still taking us there full speed. Insane.

  • shonangreg

Yeah, look at Germany’s economy and try to say that again. And Obama is not a “socialist”; he is just more liberal than Republicans. Ron Paul (and Gary Johnson, etc.) is about the only one who could claim that he is not a socialist.

The last 20 plus years have been showing ever more clearly that more tax cuts for the rich do not trickle down and do not stimulate the economy. It is as if you Republicans say the way to get out of a hole is to dig more. When the hole collapses on you again for the umpteenth time, you just shout, “We have to dig more!”

You have no credibility — period.

  • shonangreg

So after a few years when we see how those experiments develop, you might have a case that the US would benefit from donning libertarianism. But why try the medicine before it has been tested? If libertarianism could work, jumping the whole country over to an incomplete vision of a libertarian society might crash and result in a jaded electorate vowing to never again listen to what would be cast as snake oil salesmen.

  • Anonymous

Germany is one of a number of socialist European countries. It happens to be doing better than other collapsing socialist countries, but it won’t last.

Obama is a socialist. That you pretend otherwise is a sign of mental illness.

Look, Democrats can’t pass a budget. Our government has made promises hundreds of trillions of dollars over what they can keep. When Democrats are out of power they obstruct any chance we have to get out of the mess they started with FDR and LBJ. Democrats are evil. Their schemes bring misery and yet they keep calling for more.

Don’t bring up details such as unsustainablity with a Democrat. Numbers confuse them.

You only have to see Obama’s last budget get voted down 97-0 to see how terrible he is.

Democrats don’t want to pass a budget because they don’t want America to see what their plans are.

Democrats have no plan other than hate and the race card. That is it. That is Democrat’s version of America. Hate.

  • Anonymous

The country is not going to be some libertarian society if Paul wins, not even close. He basically wants to bring the troops home and shrink down the size of the federal government.

  • Anonymous

Apparently, this guy believes in G.W’s conservatism, if you can call it that. Under both republicans and democrats the size of government never fails to grow. The size of the debt never fails to grow. Don’t change anything though! Its working just fine, right?
