sarainitaly says:
You are ignoring the point of our discussion. I said Obama campaign bussed in people from all over (read the articles about Clinton and Edwards filing complaints about it) to caucus. I mentioned busing in people who didn’t have a clue about the issues, who were paid with food to vote for obama. You challenged my statements, and I provided numerous links.
You are now changing the subject. I don’t have a problem with “poor people voting.” nice try though.

First of all most of your links are not from credible sources but from RW sites known for misinformation. Second, most of the had to do with the general election in Ohio and not about the caucuses, so it is you who changed the subject. As far as Clinton and Edwards filng complaints, what was the result? Were any of those complaints found to be justified?

And you do seem to have a problem with poor people voting. If you didn't you wouldn't keep bringing it up as if there is something wrong about it.

As far of your last 'gotcha' question it is a false equivelency. When someone is born in a foreign land the government has the right to set certain standards if that person comes here and requests to be a citizen. However, once that person becomes a citizen the constitution invests in them, as well as natural born citizens, the right to vote. And the constitution does not require any such standard for a citizen to exercize that right to vote.

Anyone who thinks literacy tests are ok should educate themselves on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literacy_test

Also, how come the same people who want such hign standards for allowing people to vote would decry those same exact standards for buying a gun?

Sarainitaly says:
Hundreds of thousands of residents — including vanloads of homeless voters shuttled to polling places by advocacy groups — are expected to cast ballots before Election Day.

Again that just sounds like the typical get out the vote efforts run by every campaign. As far as the homeless, a recent study showed that there are less than 15,000 homeless people in Ohio: http://www.cohhio.org/pdf/2009OHR/2009%20Ohio%20Homelessness%20Report.pdf
So since Obama won Ohio by over 200,000 votes, even if you assume that every homeless person in Ohio voted and voted for Obama; he would have still won Ohio by 185,000 votes. And even if he lost Ohio and it's 20 electoral votes he would have still won the election.

sarainitaly says:
Democrat Barack Obama’s presidential campaign blitzed bars and advocates for the homeless have lined up vans to ferry potential voters from shelters.

Actually many stated allow homeless living in shelters to vote because they can use the shelter as their home address. There is nothing new about this, it has been going on since the 80s. But I think the bigger question why you have a problem with poor people being allowed to vote?

Thinking people should have to take a civics literacy test to vote is racist? Wow. Don't tell all of the immigrants who have had to take one to gain citizenship.

I don't know about you folks but from where I sit, there are literate liberals and literate conservatives. Voting is a responsibility but also a privilege that is one of the more important functions of all citizens. It should therefore be accorded to citizens who have the capability of understanding the meaning and impact of their vote. While proof of literacy does not guarantee that the voter understands the impact and meaning of the vote they cast, it is a fair certainty that an illiterate individual is less likely to understand such concepts than an individual who does possess the ability to read and write. From my perspective, the right to vote would be a huge incentive to learn to read and write if such a prerequisite were placed on the citizenry, and no matter how you cut it, more literacy is a very good thing. I bellieve even madcow would agree with that!

Good post on Newsbusters about this:

Maddow was playing a little fast and loose with the facts here. After all, the federal government first used literacy tests as part of an immigration policy enacted in 1917.

It is of course correct that literacy tests were used in the south to prevent blacks from voting. However, as Tancredo's hot-button issue is indeed immigration, it's absurd to link his statement Thursday evening to racism.

After all, he referred to "people who could not even spell the word, 'vote,' or say it in English." That's an immigration issue.

If Maddow disagrees, maybe she should familiarize herself with a civics test that immigrants must take today to become American citizens. She needn't go far, for some of the questions are posted at MSNBC.com:

So, Ms. Maddow, if it's not racist for the U.S. government to expect immigrants to answer these questions, is it racist to want voters to AT LEAST be able to spell the word "vote"?

Hillary Backers Decry Massive Obama Vote Fraud
http://newsmax.com/InsideCover/obama-voter-fraud/2008/10/27/id/326134

“After studying the procedures and results from all 14 caucus states, interviewing dozens of witnesses, and reviewing hundreds of personal stories, my conclusion is that the Obama campaign willfully and intentionally defrauded the American public by systematically undermining the caucus process,” she said.

In Texas, more than 2,000 Clinton and Edwards supporters filed complaints with the state Democratic Party because of the massive fraud. The party acknowledged that the Obama campaign’s actions “amount to criminal violations” and ordered them to be reported to state and federal law enforcement, but nothing happened.

At a campaign stop before the Jan. 3 caucus at the JJ Diner in Des Moines, Biden “said what we were all thinking when he got on stage and said, ‘Hello Iowa!’ and then turned to Barack’s crowd and shouted, ‘and Hello Chicago!’” another precinct captain for Hillary told Long.

Thanks to Illinois campaign workers bused across the border into Iowa, all the precincts in eastern Iowa went for Obama, guaranteeing his win in the caucuses, Long said.

Obama supporters were also bused into northeast Iowa from Omaha, Nebraska, where Obama campaign workers were seen handing out “i-pods and free stuff: T-shirts, clothes, shoes, and free meals” to students and people in homeless shelters,” according to eyewitness reports Long collected.

Try as I might, I cannot really understand how even a minimum standard of voting security can be maintained when, as an Ohio judge did yesterday, you decide to let the homeless vote. If there is no address — how do you check whether someone has voted before or whether they are using a real name? I get that the judge is attempting to enable fraud on behalf of his campaign — but how does this pass even a minimum test of reasonableness?

Remember how Obama won all of those caucuses, starting with Iowa, where Hillary had been running ahead in polls? According to a bunch of eyewitness, including former candidate Joseph Biden, many Iowa caucuses were won on the strength of voters bused in from Illinois. I hold it against Hillary that she didn't protest at the time. Now, of course, there is no protection to be had. These Chicago Obama supporters can vote in their own district, then get on busses to Ohio where they are now free to cite a given park bench or doorway as their residence, and vote again. I guess that's easier than bringing out the dead, which was the traditional Chicago practice. Although I'm sure they'll be voting too.

I hold it against Hillary that she didn’t protest at the time. Now, of course, there is no protection to be had. These Chicago Obama supporters can vote in their own district, then get on busses to Ohio where they are now free to cite a given park bench or doorway as their residence, and vote again.
Hundreds of thousands of residents -- including vanloads of homeless voters shuttled to polling places by advocacy groups -- are expected to cast ballots before Election Day. This year, Ohio voters can cast an absentee ballot without having to cite a specific reason for voting early, which had limited the practice in past presidential elections. More than 30 states now allow early in-person voting without requiring voters to give a reason.

Ohio Homeless Driven to Polls to Vote Obama

Let the homeless vote, advocates say

Homeless in Ohio can vote, register park benches.

People experiencing homelessness can draw a map or supply the address of the intersection, park or homeless shelter where they sleep when registering to vote.

And as I said, I didn't think you could supply any proof from credible sources and you didn't.

Tancredo would have served himself better had he said ” ..couldn’t pass civics 101.” - Agreed.

Let’s face it, some of the most stupid of the big mouths could benefit from it; - totally agree.

Have you ever listened to Joy Behar? Or her guests? If these are shining examples of “smart” folk, God help us. - completely agreed.

That said, Tancredo does have an ugly nationalist streak in him that is hard to deny. - I don't know anything about him, so I don't know. Tft mentioned he was against illegal immigration, not immigrants. As a foreigner living abroad, legally, I think people should do things the legal way. But, I don't blame people for wanting/flooding to America. They get access to better pay, education, and health care. But, people need to follow the law of the land.

Why make a point of “..they can’t speak English.”? - bad move, although one could argue that if people can't understand english, they don't know why/who they are voting for, and therefore, in some cases, could be treated as *useful idiots* by one party or the other. Aren't critics pointing to the Dems push to count illegal immigrants, with the hope of registering them to vote, as an example of using them?

As Andrew Breitbart said, when addressing a group at the convention, in talking about the media and particularly MSNBC and Contessa's very egregious reportage about the "gun wielding racist" (who happened to be a black man, obscured by MSNBC when the created the report)..."it's not your business model that sucks, it's you that sucks." Spot on I'd say.

WRT Rush, do you listen to his show? I ask because I never did, but I always hated him, but I never listened to him. I listened to what msnbc et al told me he said. Now, whenever someone attacks him for something he said, I read the entire transcript, and 99.8% of the time, I find out they were disingenuous in their statements. I also take him for what he is, a shock jock who lives to incite the left.

Civics 101.....I do believe that the President said this in his SOTU:

"We find unity in our incredible diversity, drawing on the promise enshrined in our Constitution, the notion that we're all created equal..."

Hmmmmmmm. For a constitutional "professor" I think he might have erred.

Having been a poll watcher many times, there are several people who come to vote that don't speak english, so his statement was factual. How he delivered it is another question perhaps.

None-the-less, Rachel was over the top in her own assessment of Tancredo and does herself and MSNBC no good when she paints the attendees with the broad brush of racism; as I said before, thanks to MSNBC being a "racist" these days simply means you disagree with teh One.

sarainitaly says:
During the primaries, for the Caucuses. And during the election, the Obama campaign hired buses to round up voters, including the homeless and drive them to the polls. They even went to homes for the disabled, and forced some voters to vote for Obama, even thought they were McCain supporters. They even *paid* people with cheeseburgers to vote for Obama… where have you been? This stuff was happening all over.

All campaigns hires buses, vans and other vehicles to bring their supporters to the polls. It is part of any campaign's standard get out the vote operation. As far as the homeless voting that is just BS. All states require proof of residency to vote such as an electric or phone bill or a rent stub. Since the homeless can't produce such documentation they can't vote. So that is just a lie.

As far as the rest it sounds like Glenn Beck delusions. Do you have any proof that come from credible news sources? Somehow I think not.

Heres the problem...people are criticizing the other side and not acknowledging that their side can be just as bad. If we realize there are kooks on both sides and we debate each other and say, "I hear what you are saying and I see the merits in your argument, but I disagree and here's why...", the discussion would be more civil and liberals and conservatives would be singing "Kumbaya". As Rodney King said, "Can't we all just get along?"

I'm the kind of person that detests what Rush Limbaugh says, but I'd like to think that Rush and I could sit down and enjoy a good Super Bowl tomorrow.

love ya stoogedude! i agree. and I love a good debate. I will debate anything. :O)

the teaparty peeps are still a mystery to me... like i said, i have friends, former dems and repubs, and indys who joined. all looking for something a little different, but mostly fiscal conservatives. there will most likely be differences because of social issues. if it does get taken over by fringe elements, it will be a disaster. like i said, i was really hoping it would be fiscal conservatives/social liberals, with no big party affiliations. i am sick of them all! hahaha

but, i do love a good debate, no matter the issue.
