Shep Smith Flips Out On Legal Guests Over Baby Lisa: ‘You’re Both Full Of It!’

Fox News’s Shepard Smith became incredibly animated while discussing the Baby Lisa case on Wednesday’s Studio B and took some well placed shots at his guest legal commentators Arthur Aidala and Randy Zelin. The spirited discussion focused on the missing baby’s parents unwillingness to cooperate with local authorities, which he saw as “all you need to know.” His guests, however, defended the legal counsel provided to the parents, suggesting that the KC police were just more interested in “closing a file” than actual justice.

Early in the segment Smith recalled a previous episode where he was evading an open container law. “John Brady and I were down in New York City and cops were coming and we had a beer and you are not supposed to have a beer open on the street and we took off running,” Smith explained. “Run. run. run. run. Now they are angry, now they say ‘we know you stole something! Admit it!’ I didn’t do anything like that, come on! That is how cops approach things, don’t they?”

“And that’s exactly the problem,” Zelin replied. “Why that a problem!?” Smith boomed. “It’s a huge problem,” Zelin responded. “Why is it a problem!?” Smith repeated. “Because it’s not about justice,” began Zelin. “It’s about making an arrest and closing a file. This target wouldn’t be on her head if she kept her mouth shut we would not be speculating. ‘Ah she’s drunk, timeline doesn’t work, this doesn’t work, that doesn’t work…”

Zelin attempted to answer Smith’s question, only to be shot down by the Fox News host. “Come on, Randy! That’s asinine!” rebuked Smith. “No! Randy, Randy, Randy! You’re wrong, stop!” The argument continued through the segment, with Smith continuing to curiously spar aggressively with his guests.

“To the police officers, in small towns across America, I sincerely apologize to you for what’s been said on this set today. Most of us, thank you for what you do, we do not distrust you and we believe when a child is missing, you are looking for a missing child not trying to close a case. I think you’re both full of it!”

(Incidentally, it was far out that Shep admitted breaking the law earlier in the segment, what’s going on at Fox News today, is it Admit Your Past Crimes Day?)

Ooooooh, Sheppy. Hit ‘em with your purse.

This woman knows very well what happened to the child. She has repeatedly lied to the police, refused to be interviewed separately from her husband or have her kids interviewed by the cops.

The ending of this will not be a surprise!

Can we just call it a “retro-active abortion” and be done with it?

Seriously, with everything going on in the world, this kind of shit is what the media focuses on?

And we wonder why were a doomed country.

There’s a really weird typo in this piece suggesting the baby herself is “unwilling to cooperate”.

The truth here is both sides of this argument have points and it all depends on what really happened. The mother certainly does look suspicious here and it could be that while drunk probably accidentally this child was killed.

but it is not a stretch to say that police departments are known to have taken the path of least resistance and focused on people while ignoring other possible direction of a case.

    We just don’t know yet.

I like Shep but he was over the top here. His job is to allow his guest’s opinions to be heard, not to go after them for it.Shep’s show is the equivalent to Nightly News broadcasts, there should be no opinions from the host.

Shep so wants to be Nancy Grace, but he looks more like Jane Velez-Mitchell.

The Fox Report with Shep .. is the No Opinion – No pundits show !!
Studio B is a different show… with Paid contributers and Discussion .. so Shepard has a right to opinion !

If you want Straight news…like I said .. watch The Fox Report . Shep gives NO OPINION or discussion there !

Everyone knows if you want real news you have to go to MSNBC and watch Al Sharpton. He always allows his guest to speak and is a very soft spoken man who always sticks to the facts in a well spoken manner and is easy to understand I still remember Mr Sharpton back in the 80′s reporting on the young Tawanna Brawley if not for him this fine young lady Miss Brawley would have been undefended.Sheperd you could learn a few things from Mr Sharpton.

If Shep truly thinks that police and prosecutors aren’t all about getting a conviction rather than seeing justice done, then he’s a bad journalist.

Being acussed of stealing something is way different than being accused of killing your daughter!  Authorities have refused to expand search … it is a missing a baby!  FIND THIS BABY

Not a bad journalist, just an idiot. In other words, he’s just an average journalist.

You sure you got your facts straight?

Another of HLN’s disgusting, boring, sensationalized offerings.  Gawd, they’re awful.  But idolized by the unwashed rancid masses.  Yup.

    Mr. Smith,

Wait until you are falsely accused, or your brother is, or your wife, or your son and then your entire perspective and life will change!  Citizens rely on Police honor and integrity, BUT, occasionally…

Oh yes, one more thing, an innocent man will never admit to a crime he didn’t commit?  And Cops don’t lie?

Shepard Smith was typically self righteous. (he’s liberal) Heaven help him if he gets pulled over by the wrong Cop in Alabama?  (Just ask John Stossel about rogue Cops!)

Oh, did Shep Smith go to the Nancy Grace Correspondence School of How to Handle Guest Experts?

  • Michael T.

Kudos to Shep Smith for standing up to these two sleazy charlatans who are obviously carrying the water for their colleague Joe Tacopina – the mother’s defense attorney.

Shepard Smith is the best journalist-anchor on television.  He is charming, he is fun and he knows his business.  He combines a winning personality with journalistic knowledge.  He can get tough when he needs to and he has great compassion when it is appropriate. He does his research and his views are accurate.
