I think Imus doesn’t believe very much at all of what he says.  

A big part of his show involves picking up on the pet beliefs, peeves & prejudices of his call-in guests, mostly by way of feigning support & encouraging them to double down, hoping they’ll say something stupid, revelatory or at least controversial – whereupon he cracks wise. Ever since Palin failed the Couric Test, Republican pols who say things that make them look ignorant or stupid – IOW show who they really are – complain of “gotcha” questions, when mostly the question were not that at all; but call-in guests to Imus are dealing with one of the true masters of gotcha.

He mostly does this to regular guests, who should expect it, or at least to New Yorkers, who should know better than to take him on. He’s actually gracious & solicitous with out-of-towners, because he’s not by nature a mean person, rather he plays one on radio.

The key is, I think, that Charles IS a walking situation comedy, his life is ALREADY a non-stop series of comedy sketches. If you ditched the idea of working from a script, & instead worked him up in a sketch the way Larry David does with the crew on Curb Your Enthusiasm, the stiffness would go away & CB would show more of his natural improv wit.

The truth is a very small percentage of families owned slaves so the odds of asking that question of someone who’s family did own slaves is pretty slim.  There were also black families who owned slaves….but again very low percentage so odds of meeting one is even smaller.  I’m not sure what your point is though.

Look I can laugh at myself and often do, but there is a double standard here and a bit more respect or less sensitivity from other races would be refreshing period. The black community deals with such little racism that it emboldens the angry ones among them to feel empowered and uncivil. Some among them act in a way that they used to be treated before they had rights.

I found it hard to follow your comment… Although I am sure that I was responding to you immediately tossing out a party name and past history as if yesterday has anything to do with today.

I am not a Democrat, I am not a Republican, nor am I a member of the confederate. I am an American minority who does not embrace idiots who harbor hate. I am an American that will fight everyone, including you, to preserve my birth rights and traditions.

Whatever. How are you being threatened by the confederates? I suggest you spend more concern on illegal Mexican aliens being allowed to fly their Mexican flag over an American capital building last year. Like it or not, those confederates you apparently fear were born with birth rights, as well. 

I am with you regarding the Mexican flag thing. I’m with you on no party affiliation. I guess I’m kinda with you.. Because I’m also into no hate and the freedoms adults should have to do as they please if bringing no harm to others.

I believe there is a grave misconception of ‘why’ Southerner’s refuse to give up their Confederate flag. It is most certainly a symbol of their heritage, where they came from and how far they have come from that. To refuse them of their flag is to refuse them of their rightful identity. 

The stigma of the Civil War being fought over slavery is misleading. The war was fought when eleven states seceded from the Union. They lawfully had the right to do so to protect their sovereignty and constitutional rights.

It would bring people closer to the truth if they would reject this misconception & realize that the Confederate flag is not a symbol of enslavement in the minds that honor it. 

Take a moment and think. At the time the Union forced their beliefs on the Confederacy, slavery was a common practice across the country. Yes, the Confederacy losing to the Union did lead to equality but we only have the luxury of knowing that now a century later. These gray soldiers were not savage animals. They were doing what they felt they must do to protect their homes and families from an invasion. Many of them treated and cared for their slaves as family.
The Confederacy at one time pledged allegiance to The Confederate States of America. The United States Oath of Citizenship declares that to become a naturalized citizen one must entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen.

Southerner’s are not pledging allegiance to the Confederate flag, they are honoring those who came before them that sacrificed their lives to protect their God given rights and their families, not slavery.

The difference between the Confederate flag and the Mexican flag is so obvious it… The Mexican flag is a foreign flag. Furthermore, there still exists a country of Mexico to pledge allegiance to. The Confederacy can only offer you pictures and words in a history book. There is not an American alive today that was a citizen of The Confederate States of America.

I believe that the majority of Americans divided by smoke from the DC machine agree that the principles of our founding fathers have never been in need of implementing more than that do right now. American’s are far more tolerant than politicians are comfortable with which is why they keep us in crisis mode.

There are those who will argue that Obama has the right to infringe on the constitutional rights of Americans as Abe Lincoln did to the confederacy for the greater good of the people. That argument would be plausible if Obama was supported by the majority of Americans as Honest Abe was. It is more clear everyday that he will never garner that kind of support.

We have more in common than I initially would have ever guessed. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to express my views on this perplexing topic. We all expect this topic to surface when reading articles like this and I hope I offered a different perspective.
