The Five’s Bob Beckel Attempts To Perform The Lyrics To Jay-Z’s ‘Big Pimpin”
Towards the end of today’s Five, the hosts decided to devote an entire segment to the story that rapper Jay-Z would eliminate the word “bitch” from any new lyrics following the birth of his daughter. The strange thing was, as Andrea Tantaros readily admitted up top, that story has already been debunked. Making it weirder, none of the hosts thought Jay-Z should ban the word and none of them even seemed to care that much about the story. So, as a viewer, I was left wondering, “Why are they even talking about this?”
Then they revealed that Bob Beckel was going to attempt to perform the hit “Big Pimpin’” and I said “Ohhhh.”
Beckel, whose New Year’s resolution involves refraining from profanity, only got a few lines into the song before realizing it probably wasn’t a good idea for about a million reasons. Once he stopped, the rest of the segment was a little shapeless featuring such exciting moments as Dana Perino’s story about how she was in the same restaurant as Jay-Z but didn’t recognize him. That’s fine. The few seconds of Beckel giving Mr. Carter’s lyrics his all were worth the price of admission.
Side note: This is the picture of Jay-Z that the show chose to use:
If that’s what their top choice is, I’m not surprised Perino couldn’t recognize the guy. Seriously, what the hell is that?
