Donald Trump Jr. gave an interview to Good Morning America on Tuesday, where he defended his father for attacking Sadiq Khan while the London mayor is still dealing with the aftermath of a terror attack in his city.
Trump slammed Khan multiple times on Twitter in the last several days. The first jab occurred when Trump twisted Khan’s words and accused him of telling Londoners that there was “no reason to be alarmed” by terrorism. Trump slammed Khan again over his “pathetic excuse” later on, and it has prompted criticism for misrepresenting the mayor’s words and for attacking an American ally while it is dealing with a national tragedy.
“Every time he puts something out there he gets criticized by the media. All day, every day,” said the Trump scion. “And guess what, he’s been proven right about it, every time.”
Trump Jr. went on to say that the United Kingdom doesn’t do enough to prevent terrorism.
“We keep appeasing it, and we keep saying, ‘Okay, it’s gonna be great. We’re gonna hold fast and we’re gonna keep calm and carry on.’ Maybe we have to keep calm and actually do something.”
Khan has been dismissive of Trump’s Twitter criticism for the most part, and he recently suggested that Britain should cancel plans to honor the president with a state visit ceremony when Trump makes his first trip there.
