Watch Suzanne Malveaux Ask An Awkward Tim Tebow About His Love Life

video

With the Super Bowl approaching, CNN took the opportunity to chat with the biggest star in the sport who won’t be playing tomorrow: Tim Tebow, who was gracious and sweet about people criticizing him but appeared a little less prepared to be asked on national television what he looks for in a potential mate. Host Suzanne Malveaux asked him about just about everything– politics, sports, future plans– but the most entertaining part of the interview came when a blushing Tebow found himself answering questions about his love life.

RELATED: Tim Tebow: Running For Office ‘Could Be Something In My Future’

In some ways, the chat is a very good primer on how to completely disarm a guarded guest who already seems a little bit nervous about being on a serious news network (and with the news that he may be considering a run for office sometime in the future, the instinct to fear cable news is right on). The interview starts off on a giggly note, with Malveaux noting that “a lot of women are excited to see you in the studio, they are swooning,” but teasing that they’ll “get back to that later.” She then touches on a little bit of everything– Tebow’s role models, how confident he feels about his game play, what he thinks of Charles Barkley referring to his success as a “national nightmare.” For the record, Tebow really likes Barkley, and doesn’t seem to mind at all that he gets poked at by famous people. Malveaux also asks Tebow what it feels like to have your name be a verb, to which he responds that he’s just happy he has gotten people to think and talk about prayer. As for what exactly he’s praying about? “That I’ll never change or treat people differently,” he responds.

From prayer, Malveaux then asks about another aspect of his religious existence. “You’ve said you’re saving yourself for marriage… are you dating anybody? A lot of women in this studio want to know.” Tebow laughed and took it well, and answered plaining that the answer was no, “I’m just a little busy right now.” But in the event that he was thinking about dating someone, what does he look for? Fear not, Malveaux actually asked this and, for the record: “kindness and compassion and has an outgoing personality and somebody who is sweet,” which doesn’t really answer the question, so Malveaux trudged on, asking about personal vices. This resulted in an extended answer about his sordid love affair with ice cream, his biggest temptation.

Malveaux got him to answer a few questions about politics, too– though not what candidate he would vote for. He noted that he did follow politics “to be a good voter” and considered getting name-dropped in a Republican debate “a pretty big compliment.” But he, like many others, is an undecided voter, giving only this clue on who he likes: “a bunch of them are great guys and they handle themselves very well.”

Malveaux leaves the most important question in the interview for last: “Who is going to win the Super Bowl?” If you think Tebow gave a straight answer, you haven’t been paying attention (though he did acknowledge that he could speak from personal experience that that Tom Brady fellow is pretty good). The whole interview is upbeat and fairly challenging to Tebow without coming even close to being disrespectful, which is pretty rare when it comes to things involving or referencing Tim Tebow.

why is this kid relevant on any level, to anyone, for any reason?  seriously..  media vomit overload

Ive seen the media hype people before, but this is truly one of the weirdest hypes ever. What has he done? Why should I care? He sucks as a quarterback at least he does right now. There are 25 to 30 quarterbacks in the league that are better than him.  He’s a nice guy whoopee. There are a lot of nice guys in sports wow.

  • Anonymous

    Creepy! Very creepy!

  • Pablo

    Because he’s a winner.

  • Pablo

Well, he won 2 national championships in NCAA ball, and he took over a 1-4 team and brought them to the playoffs and won in the NFL.

How many of those 25-30 quarterbacks you think are better than him made the Divisional playoffs? And how many of them weren’t the starter when the season opened?

You can scoff all you like but the kid can lead a team.

The headline?  Tebow wasn’t “awkward” – the questions were awkward.  He answered them like a gentleman.  Nothing awkward about Tebow.

Nice guy, what more can one say – perhaps that there really wasn’t a story.  Now, there are a couple that beg for a headline…

He will be lucky to be a starting quarterback all next year for denver. HEEEEE sucks its crazy dude. He pulled out 4 games they could have easily lost and was blown out of the water in another 4. His statistics are horrible! If Denver wants to work with this kid good freaking luck.

Tebow is a gay using religion as a shield while playing a “man’s” game.  Suzzane is cute (some think that she is ugly), but her eyes are scary and sexy at the same time!  I hope the gay rumors are not true, but it is CNN so I would not be shocked.

Wow oh wow what a terrible match up! Tim could do 100x better than that horrible girl. Ugly, fat, crude, mean spirited and hypocritical. Whereas Mr Tebow…well I’d fancy a crack hehehe. I’d like to see if I could tempt him to renounce his vow to wait. With all respect; I do honestly believe it in his best interests to not wait. Sex isn’t a sin if you’re honest with the other person, and I’ve seen too many Christians marry ridiculously young the first person that will have them in the rush to the bedroom. That only leads to heartbreak.

And the whole sex sin thing? A church invention designed to keep singles from having heirs, leaving rich property owners no choice but to leave their estates to the church. The no sex outside marriage thing was also reinforced (mostly for women for practical reasons) to ensure heirs were always true and not ‘bastards’ of the milkman inheriting the property and dukedom or whatnot.

It’s all a lie people! No need to ‘save yourselves’ in the 21st century!

  • Pablo

His only stat that sucks is his completion rate. Players who suck don’t win multiple national championships and the Heisman trophy. You might as well just admit that you hate the guy because he’s a Christian.

  • Pablo

So, you had sex with him?

  • Anonymous

I’m always glad to see haters projecting without a hint of real facts. Tebow is a friend of a young man I have known personally that managed a nice restaurant in Gainesville. He is as classy on campus, always engaging with fans at his own peril, and is certainly not gay. Unfortunately, those who hate all things Christian and people of faith will always try to vomit their vitriol because they can’t understand a tim tebow, so must try to denigrate. Sorry assholes, but what you see is real and you are unfortunately losers, unable to understand a true winner.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SMUGSPLRKQOJBS5T6I4S5H2YSE Andy-48

I too have thought he was gay for years now. Although I do know he had a friend in college that was a girl. I highly doubt that he ever had sex with her. Trying to use the “no sex until marriage” line on her.

(in terms many might not understand)  I’m fairly sure that somewhere near his home he has a “special friendship” with, and that they have lived under….”The only way we can stay together is to not tell anyone about us”.

With such religious parents, they were missionary’s to The Philippines. He learned at an early age what he could say and what he couldn’t. So in many respects he’s been living a lie for many years. Best not to tell his parents that he’s Gay, than be ostracized by them.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SMUGSPLRKQOJBS5T6I4S5H2YSE Andy-48

Evidently you would think that the Coach and his staff had something to do with sending in the right plays.

So you evidently think he would have won those Championships without teamwork and practice.

  • Hout Bosques

Could be; could be that he’s an outrageous lying fraud – but with the media scrum pressing him constantly closer than a custom-built Inspiral Extra Snug lubed with Crazee Glue, that seems safe to dismiss – we would have heard of leaks by now! (Reference to Richard “Dick” Cheney: “Everything leaks.”).

Could be he’s gay & too shy to say – a 40-man squad-squalid shower-room-sized closet case (I mean, look at the evidence: he’s been seen hanging about with large groups of heavily muscled sweaty naked tatoo’d men for over a decade now, close enough to reach out & touch … some body Hoo; or, maybe he’s sexually ambivalent; or possibly he’s into some really extreme cultish perversion – that last, after all is, is pretty much what he claims. Even then, there’s seems to be something more, uh, egocentric involved, one of the Freudian self-love twists, maybe that “I found … the grey … test … love of all … happening … to me” thing – you’d expect something like that to explain his otherwise inexplicable field instincts.

Whatever it is, the weird part about this item is the notion of the CNN female folk all getting hot-&-cold running flash fantasies over a guy who, for all they know, is into bestiality, and even then granting him the benefit of the doubt that, whatever the nature of the beast in question, it’s big & it’s human, or close enough.

  • BooBoo Bear

     I’d rather Tim maul me.
    (Yes, I know he Gay.}

Unlike a pitcher in baseball, quarterback needs to rely on his team mates.

If you put a quarterback, considered to be the best, on a mediocre team, the results will be mediocre. By the same token, put an average quarterback on a team with excellent receivers, excellent offensive line and you will have what legends are made of.

Too bad we will never know what Tim Tebow might have been able to do if he played with the Giants or the Patriots. Or, conversely, where the two quarterbacks of the Super Bowl participants would be on teams with less support to protect their asses.

  • Anonymous

You are welcome to Julianne Malveaux.

    Enjoy yourselves!

  • Anonymous

If there was any indication that Tim Tebow is a liberal  Democrat, you would be praising him for being gay, even if he is not.

Why is it that liberal ALWAYS use being gay as an insult when they talk about a conservative, but being gay is the highest virtue, when they talk about a fellow liberal?

  • Anonymous

where do you collect your trash donald?  When is the next pick-up date?

Really, now you want to go with the gay?

  • Anonymous

Your “friendly little post” is foul and I cannot for the life of me, figure out what you get out of attempting to besmirch someone you know nothing about.  What is the joy?

If “that horrible girl” had aborted her child, she would be your hero!

If Sarah Palin had taken the liberal coward way to abort her Down Syndrome child, she would be your hero.

No matter what either of them have done or said, if they had aborted their kids, they would be liberal heroines. To liberals, ABORTIONS, killing a human being, eliminating the result of your promiscuity is of prime importance.

It’s amazing to see all the hate here for Tim Tebow.  I lived in Gainesville for 18 years so of course I am a Gator fan.  As such I have had an interest in Tebow’s career.  I can say from following him closely that he is what he is, and he is sincere about his faith.  You or even I may not agree with how  he displays his faith, but I can’t believe how much hate liberals feel compelled to pile on this guy.

Hey, I agree that at the NFL level he is awkward and it remains to be seen if he will continue to be a starting quarterback at that level.  But honestly why all the hate?  To me it shows the liberal bias of an antipathy towards strong religious beliefs.  Do I like seeing Tebow display his religion so publicly, especially during tense moments in a football game?  No, not at all, as a fan of his I am somewhat embarrassed for him as I think it sends the wrong message about him and his religion, but do I think that people should hate him for it? Hell no!

The most dangerous feature of the left is on display here, the utter intolerance of anything that they perceive as a threat to their ideologies, as there seems to be no room in their ideologies for a dissenting point of view in the public arena.

  • Anonymous

What Tim should have said to Suzanne was as follows:  “Look, Suzanne, I am saving myself for marriage in all cases except you.  Meet me in an hour and I will cover your feet with ice cream and then systematically lick it all off!  I will then f— your brains out.”  Kinky, but CNN needs the ratings!

  • Anonymous

its not all about football.  he is a winner in my book as well and it has absolutely nothing to do with football.  doesnt really matter what any of us like or dislike, this guy IS in the limelight and this guy truly seems to stick to his beliefs.  listen, im an alabama fan and i remember when all the fuss was over tebow while playing at florida.  there was about a month there, during his senior year, where i was like “NOT another story about tebow!” and i really was over him.  i was just sick of hearing about him.  but…since then, i have watched specials on espn like 30 for 30 and some others and i simply think he is the real thing, a great guy.  in fact, i cant even believe that there was ever a time where i didnt like him.  haha.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_44UDGK42PNJVRWVS57IVEKMK2A Donald

Yep.  What else did you think that she was?  Of course has some strong white Germanic in her but both parents are black.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_44UDGK42PNJVRWVS57IVEKMK2A Donald

I don’t get into the phony game of politics, so shove that up your ass!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_44UDGK42PNJVRWVS57IVEKMK2A Donald

Hey, the way Tebow rolls his head, his look and the way that he talks tells it all.  I guess you are blind sided by the fact that he plays football.  Like the other guy said, he used to virgin thing as an excuse to not get women without saying that he is gay.  If he was a singer, you would be asking the gay question without delay!

I think that given who his parents are, Tebow is using the religion to shield himself from his homosexuality.  Besides, Christians are one of the gayest religions out there and I won’t be shocked.  How many devout Christians love to talk about religion or even not like gays but turn out to be amongst the gayest?

Suzanne Malveaux comes from New Orleans, LA and is a Creole, which are descendants of colonial Louisiana of a Black, Spanish or French mix. She obviously comes from the Black/French mix as her last name is French.,

His team ended up in a three way tie at 8 and 8 in a very mediocre division for first and got in the playoffs by tie breaking bureaucracies.  He and his team made it to the playoffs by losing their last three games.

He didn’t lead shit, his team backed their way into the playoffs.

  • Pablo

It’s interesting how things that make no sense are so evident to you.

  • Anonymous

This was a great interview.  Suzanne Malveaux asked some straight forward questions that people would like to hear and Tebow answered them all honestly and without pause.

As a nonbeliever, I admire Tim Tebow for his conviction in his god and his ability as an athlete.

  • http://thefunemployed.blogspot.com/ rance

Actually, the whole “sex sin thing’ as you call it is based on the 7th Commandment (out of 10).  Thou shall not commit adultery means no sex outside of a marriage.

But that’s still a nice conspiracy theory you have spun there.

I personally don’t see why Tebow’s sex life is anyone’s business.  If the guy wants to wait, let him wait.

My husband and I waited until we got married.  We decided we were serious about our relationship and wanted to do things the “right” way.  It forced us to create intimacy in other ways and become closer, emotionally, as a couple.  17 years of marriage and neither of us has ever had to worry about the other cheating – because we know we can control ourselves and are committed to our marriage and our family.  We have never betrayed one another and our kids aren’t growing up in a broken home.

Sometimes doing things the “right way” works out.  People who cohabit prior to marriage are more likely to divorce is not a made up statistic.

Hermadite •  New York, New
    York  •           Here’s an
exclusive scoop sports fans. During the Super Bowl game of 1983 (Miami Dolphins
vs Washington Redskins) at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, referee Jerry
Markreit suddenly halted the game in the 3rd quarter when he realized an
additional official had whistled down 4 prior plays.

                         As NBC
cameras focused on the overhead blimp, and stayed there, 123,000 fans in the stands
shouted and applauded when a heavyset policeman chased the phony Back Judge
down the sidelines. Both teams watched this Mack Sennett comedy in disbelief.
The cop collared the imposter and the crowd booed its displeasure.

                         Redskin
running back John Riggins, still laughing with the others, told his team it was
time to turn the game around and win! And so they did! BTW the fake uniformed
Back Judge was actor/athlete Ray Williams and the cop was actor Frank Murgalo.
It was a great caper and is fully described in a forthcoming book, “Abel
Raises Cain,” bound to become a best-seller.

             PS
A few years ago actor/writer Paul Hiatt, a member of the Merry Pranksters, was
driving a NJ cab with passenger John Riggins. Riggins corroborated the charade
on that Super Bowl day and added:

“we were not favored to win and
down by 14 points; the hoax stunt made us all laugh so hard we lost our tension
and energized our resolve to win.”

Nevertheless, the NFL decided to deny the event occurred and warned
reporters they could lose future junkets if they covered it. The Time-Life
photo department destroyed all their still photos. Most others complied except
Phil Reisman with Gannett Newspapers and Mal Sharp, a San Francisco radio
reporter. Then too, there were 123,000 witnesses.
