Whoopi On Coulter: I Didn’t Know We Were Anybody’s Blacks! I Thought I Was Free!

video

Whoopi Goldberg went after Ann Coulter and her provocative statement that “our blacks are better than their blacks” on The View Thursday. “I didn’t know we were anybody’s blacks!” Goldberg exclaimed. “My God, I thought I was free but damn it! I found out again, somebody’s got my behind!”

“Exactly, it sounds like a slave auction,” co-host Joy Behar cheekily added.

RELATED: Ann Coulter Doubles Down To Joy Behar: ‘[Our Blacks] Are More Impressive. There Is No Question.’

Goldberg earlier had thought it was amusing that conservatives were initially blaming the “liberal media” for leaking Herman Cain‘s sexual harassment allegations when now it appears it may have originated from a rival campaign. Behar followed up Whoopi’s remarks by pointing out Cain’s gaffe about China’s nuclear capabilities. Panelist Elisabeth Hasselbeck interrupted Behar’s train of thought to make the observation that Cain was a distraction and ultimately was not going to be the Republican’s nominee.

“You are falling into the biggest trap right now!” Hasselbeck chimed in. “First of all, Herman Cain is not going to make it beyond the primary. This is the mistake the Republican Party is making right now and I pray they don’t make it as the selection goes forward. They are creating again a primary prince and they’re counting on you to attack Cain and not actually focus on Romney. Cain is not going to make it all the way.”

Guess what Whoopi, you are free. You’re free to choose whatever ideology, party or polticians you want to support or be a part of.

It is not a requirement of your race to be a liberal democrat.

  • Fallenchicken

inb4 teabloggers call Whoopi a racist.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bill-Adkins/1585417987 Bill Adkins

And that”s the difference – Ann Coulter thinks she’s Scarlett and Herman and Whoopi are ‘her’ blacks.  Next, Whoopi does GWTW, “But I don’ know nothing about birthin’ no babies and Herman don’ know nothin’ ’bout bein’ president.’  And Ann does Driving Miss Daisy without the sensitivity on the Republican plantation..

When you’re on The View , Ann ,
don’t ask Whoopi if you can borrow her makeup bag .

Ann Coulter is not even a good candidate for a one night stand.  Even if I was super drunk I will never hit it

Ann wants to go back to Tara – she knows Scarlett runs a Republican plantation.

Republicans think of black people as political accessories.

  • Anonymous

Based on the comments I’ve been reading at Mediaite the last couple of days, it appears that the Republican mantra for this election season is shaping up as: Yes We Klan!

  • Pablo

    Isn’t willful ignorance fun?

I’m sure this is way more entertaining that discussing OWS violence. Who wants to talk about “protesters”  throwing bombs at cops when we’ve got Whoopi making an ass of herself…again?

  • Anonymous

    Straw-man argument at its best…..

While I don’t agree with Ann’s statement. This is just as ridiculous.

  • Anonymous

    “Our blacks”
Right Ann, the one’s that are possessed on the right wing plantation.

  • Alemkebedes

    Wow Whoopi. You nailed it.

  • Alemkebedes

“coulter-guy” DISRESPECTIFUL . Where is Keith Olbermann

  • Anonymous

What’s so sad about all this is that it’s taking away from the genius of the 9-9-9 plan.(lol)
Now all we are talking about is Cain’s 69-9 at 9 plan.

  • Caroldyrek

oh here we go ..   another irrelevant personality heard from.  go on a diet, whoopie.

  • Busslug

Why do people go out of their way to purposefully misunderstand what Coulter was saying? “Our blacks” is being used in the same way as a Packers fan talks about their running backs. “Our running backs are better than Vikings running backs. Is it racialist? Yes. Is it racist? No. Conservatives believe that their everything is better than the other side, and liberals the same, otherwise why would you be a member of that “team”? You know damn well she wasn’t talking about them in the possessive. Especially if you listened to Ann’s comments after the comment, essentially gunning for affirmative action because we owe them for slavery. I don’t care if you hate Ann Coulter, but in my opinion, this is a purposeful stretch.

  • http://twitter.com/JCP1975 JCP1975

Curious how long it will take for conservative commenters to make snide remarks about Whoopi & Joy’s looks.

  • Michelle

You libs can dish it out, but when it comes to taking it right back, you are VERY thin-skinned.  Of course, your role model, Barry is the most thin-skinned of all so it’s not at all surprising.

Ann is correct when she says black conservatives have a hard time.   They are vilified unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.

  • Bobt

If you divide the country into thirds, Coulter represents 1/3 that have no clue. Then there is the other third on the left that have no clue either. That leaves us 1/3 to try and figure what should happen next..

  • Bobt

One of the third right here…clueless

  • Anonymous

    Dat be true, Whoopi!

  • Anonymous

. . . and then they continued on their rant on how Herm Cain is turning against his people to allow racist whites to be guilt-free.

LOL.  I have to say that I agree with Woopi on this…  I found it somewhat disconcerting  when Anne made her statement; “Our blacks are better than their blacks”.  There is just something wrong with that statement.

  • Anonymous

far be it from me to Coulter but could have sworn I heard liberal radio talk show host Stephanie Miller or one of her regular guests use the very “our blacks” phrase about 4 weeks before Coulter did

I suppose intentions do matter but there is no doubt both sides bastardized the race issue & blacks playing along, on either side, are nothing but useful idiots

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4XBUO7MRU5LJUDUELWAAWBUHI4 Anonymous

Ann Coulter’s statement wasn’t racist, or meant to be. The woman just traffics in saying provocative and stupid stuff. Kind of like Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh’s lovechild on steroids. She needs to say this stuff to make a living, and pay for her hair collagen. Coulter needs to be ignored.

  • Anonymous

Whoopi is engaging in an equivocation fallacy here. Possessive pronouns like “our” do not always denote possession or ownership. They simply denote an association.

  • Busslug

Beware the skinny blonde woman! ;)

  • Anonymous

Tell Whoopi to take it up with the DNC, the NAACP, MSNBC and the rest of the state run media.
If she thinks she is so damn free then let her state she supports Herman Cain or Rick Perry on TV and see what happens to her.

  • NDanielson

Wow, we have a word to describe 0bama and his world of sheep. Finally something Barry can run.

    The word is: Ineptocracy

    1. Ineptocracy
*_Ineptocracy_****(in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) – a system of government where the least

capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the

members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded

with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number

    of producers*

    Use in a sentence:

The occupy Whoppi Goldberg is protesters are part of the ineptocracy movement.

    H/T http://pointsandfigures.com/2011/11/03/new-words-ineptocracy/

  • Jacobjakeu

Yet it would be okay to say “our men are better than yours” or “our women are better than yours” or “our leaders are better than yours” or “our secretaries are better than yours”…. it’s about people on one team being better than people on other teams.

But “our blacks are better than yours,” says Whoopi, is wrong.

Who’s the racist one? The person who uses a phrase that could be said about any other group without issue, or the person who says, no, you must behave differently because it’s this particular group?

  • Anonymous

Yet, most righties will not admit that Coulter is a racist who uses controversy to get ratings and sell books.

As for Hasslebeck, I have to agree….Cain is a sideshow and will never be president or even win the primaries first!

  • caconservative

I think we’re long passed caring what Whoopie “the idiot” Goldberg has to say. This is the same reprehensible bitch that did her best to protect a foreign movie director from allegations of raping and sodomizing a 13-year old little girl in the U.S. and is hiding out in a country that does not have an extradition treaty with the U.S. This pig is constantly on the wrong side of the argument. Her home-spun crap, is just that, CRAP!!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NWVKX2P2QBPQ6FHQHCHVIC2ALQ Fedup in Florida

Whatever her statement was not racist but it was simply overly broad and a poor statement. She was painting a large group with a simple brush that did nothing to fairly address the issue that she was talking about.  It was an odd statement that sounded bad the first time I heard it and doesn’t sound any better now, the premise of her argument is not racist, her statement was just a poor choice of words.

“How DARE you black folk think you can survive without your Democratic Welfare Plantation – now sit down, and do what your liberal (mostly white) masters tell you to do…or our mainstream media will tar & feather you!”

ND, in tribute to that RACIST buffoon Toure, on msnbc, there’s another word which was coined:

In what sense does Whoopi think Coulter’s comments are a reference to freedom? They are FREE to choose what political party & policies they back. The fact that Coulter prefers the blacks who support the Republican party (the obvious ‘our’ reference ) is pretty clear.
Once again Whoopi-cushion puts her own biased spin on a comment and runs with it as if it is profound statement on the landscape of the black community in America by that mean skinny white chick.

The lunatic-left d-cRAT socialists believe that blacks are 100% owned as their property. They will offer them various forms of addictive candy (like the PIGFORD rip-off of American taxpayers) via BIG GOVERNMENT to keep them hooked. BUT,  when they stray from the lunatic-left plantation and speak out of turn – or otherwise disobey their d-cRAT MASTERS, the lunatic-left will  severely punish the uppity offenders. The lunatic-left absolutely thinks they have a “right” to do so. And their despicable treatment of black works perfectly, so they’ll never change.

I found my solace in the Irish/Scots “hide yer weapons” or “who’s a Catholic” fight a while ago.

I am sick and tired of people covering up for other people.

If you pick a fight you will eventually lose.  There is always someone bigger and badder and armed and skilled.

You’re 100% right. Besides, it’s a lot easier to be a black liberal than a black conservative. A black liberal is gonna have white people kissing his ass, a black conservative has to earn the ass kissing, or better yet, honest respect versus white-guilt pandering. I don’t like Herman Cain because he’s black, I like him because he’s hardworking, honest, has an incredible resume, is politically incorrect and tells it like it is. At the Herman Cain rallies you’re not going to see stupid white people fainting or anyone referring to Cain as “black Jesus.” Cain is the real deal, and if he wins the nomination, he’s gonna show America the difference between style (Obama) and substance (Cain).

  • Anonymous

I had the same thoughts when I heard Coulter say this. Its stinks of “our blacks” as in the one’s we own.

  • Anonymous

Liberals know that any group can make it on their own given equal opportunity to do so. Republicans exist for the sole purpose of denying people an equal opportunity. That’s what you’re all about. That’s why you have all the homophobia, racism, religious intolerance, superstition, etc. It’s not a secret.

  • Gordonbloyershow

Anybody with a brain and a sense of humor knows the Coulter comments were sarcastic. Libs don’t have a sense of humor or a brain.

  • Anonymous

I think the average person would know what Ann was actually saying, but then “why didn’t she simply say that she has found black Republicans to be smarter than black democrats” which is in itself a stupid remark.  In case you haven’t noticed, there are few blacks in the Republican organization.

The reason it brings up the criticism is because Coulter has always said nasty, name-calling things against democrats.  Just like you seem to think all democrats are liberals and most democrats think all republicans are either greedy, racist or religious right lunatics.  Then again, maybe the democrats are right.

Yes, she was talking about them in the possessive; that’s why she used the possessive case.  ;D

But seriously, I made the same joke when I heard what Coulter said.  The phrasing sounded more than a little unfortunate coming from a person like her, but it’ll blow over soon enough.  No one seriously thinks she’s pro-slavery, but the way the Republican Party has been trotting out its “black conservatives” as an example, you’d think they were prize show-horses.  That’s what’s so demeaning.

Not to mention the problem of proclaiming one group of people better than another essentially because they’re on her “side.”  She made a half-decent argument, but then ruined it entirely with the implication that the “black Democrats” — the vast majority of African-Americans! — didn’t/can’t think and chose their party for themselves.  The argument that African-Americans can’t think for themselves and need somebody else to show the right choices to make and what’s really good for them is pretty offensive to me.  Some of those Democrats were just going with the flow, like a percentage of all people do, but some made their own conscious decision based on their own values.  It’s demeaning to imply otherwise.

And frankly, I don’t see her demeaning people who just go along with the Republican Party because that’s what the people around them are conservatives.   What’s the difference?  It’s either about calling Democrats stupid and unthinking, African-Americans stupid and unthinking, or both.  That’s not just hypocritical; it’s also not constructive.  And frankly, it makes her look like even more of a fool than usual, which is quite an accomplishment.  I’m sure she’ll sell plenty of books to people who lap up rage, hypocrisy, and pointless partisan ideology.  It sure seems like that’s her only goal in life at this point.

Whoopi was so much better before she started expecting us to take her seriously.  Why does it always have to be about race and slavery?  The fact is that Black Americans are nothing like Africans. American blacks have had all the opportunity and large portions of the populace have chosen to ignore that opportunity in favor of wallowing in the sorrow of their ancestors 2 or 3 Hundred years in the past.

I was recently talking to a businessman from China.  He said that China is about to start outsourcing jobs to Africa, the next great land of opportunity.  Africans want to join the world community.  American blacks wish to have their own cultural community so they can sit around and remember that they used to be slaves. How useful is that? No, Ann, their blacks are better than our blacks.

I admit it…I didn’t watch what Ann said. I stand by what I said, and at the same time Ann’s right.  The difference is that conservative black people have found their way out of racism.  Some liberal blacks have found their way as well.  But a large portion of liberal blacks are in-effect employees of racism.

And, I know…Herman Cain didn’t.  He had a father who told him to do his homework. If he was a real black man he would have told his father to “stick it”.

Johnson’s “Great Society” was a serious set-back for the evolution of Black America.  It meant the end of personal pride for black men, who no longer had to work. Their wives no longer needed them.  It meant the end of the black family and more fathers found their way into drugs and crime.

There needs to be a Renaissance  in the black community.  Herman Cain can make that happen.  Obama didn’t have a father.  In fact he was abandoned by two. He must have been a fun kid.  If it wasn’t for socialism and the influence of Islam while he was in college, Obama might have ended up in jail.

Herman Cain can spark a Renaissance of real pride in the black community.  Obama cares about nothing but Michell’s power.

You don’t have to dare democrats to use race. Race has been in their playbook ever since republicans pushed democrats screaming into agreeing to vote for the Civil Rights Act.

  • Anonymous

There are a few simple facts that vanish in the con universe.

Cain had a few skeletons in the closet. His skin color is completely irrelevant to the issue. Any other candidate like Perry or Romney would have been treated just the same way.

The race card was introduced by the Cons claiming without any evidence Cain is under attack because
he´s a black conservative. See Krauthammer- Cain- dialogue. Complete BS.

Somebody opened the closet, found the skeletons and Cain is still 3 steps behind in damage control.

Crazy Ann Coulter made it even worse by a disgusting, racist statement drawing a line between good and bad members of  a certain community. Goldberg reacted appropriately.  Who is Ann Coulter to “own” people to the point she can decide which are better than others? Also she makes it sound like she´s talking about pawns, not individuals.

While the right wing nutjobs can´t get over themselves in praising Cain who indeed has a pretty impressive career, they refuse do give Obama credit for being the first non-white President – a singular, historical achievement. To add, they also kept for years the racist myth alive Obama was born in Kenya and it still exists in con universe. Perry mentioned it, obviously to test the waters and paddled back.  The hardcore resistance against Obama would have never gotten so strong without racism.

While this argument about Cain and the race card is more or less political theater for the day and  meaningless talkshows, in the background the Cons are working as eagerly as quietly on voter suppression. Suppressing the votes of minorities that is, naturally.

And that´s really racist by the very definition of the word.

So before, any Con opens his mouth and talks about racism, they need to stop with the legislative efforts that effect minorities the most and instead work on bringing as many people to the voting both as possible.

I want to see the Teapublicans register as many voters as possible, everywhere.

Anyone willing to put money on Teapublicans will do that? ;-)

It’s there and glaring, You just have to take off those fuscia glasses.

A question about racism and racists. We passed the civil rights act in 1965. Correct. It is it the opinion of most white Americans, that by enacting that law, we erased racism people’s hearts and minds? For any normal person, who does not carry a gigantic chip on the shoulder,  Ann Coulter’s use of “OUR” and “THEIR” clearly meant “those with us” (i.e. Republicans/conservatives) and “those with them (i.e. Democrats/progressives). I can’t argue with your statement about racism still being alive in this country, if you read all my posts about the flag I cited some blatant examples that I came across here in Florida, I have seen others that I did not cite, but I really think that the racism is not particular to a political party, or even to a particular race. We see tensions across the spectrum. I have long felt that the problem is really more socioeconomic than it is race related, it just manifests itself as racial in today’s society.

This is not to deny the history of this country as I am well aware of the atrocities of the past, and they were more prevalent than most people realize, the Shirley Sherrod story that she related to the NAACP is horrific and was hardly unique in the south during that period and I am sensitive to that history.  But that does exist for the most part anymore in modern day america, I am just a few years older than you are and I can tell you that my children now in their 20′s and 30′s have never lived in the environment that you and I grew up in and their understanding of race has been informed by an entirely different set of facts and experiences.  Anyway good meeting you, take care.

Name one Republican in congress TODAY that is as openly racist as any of the Democrats you so causally disregard from a few decades ago. The The Civil Rights amendments would not have passed without the support of the Republicans- the Dems did not have enough votes. Before you spew re-trashed rhetoric as fact, learn your history clearly you don’t find it of importance but without Republicans this nation did not have a chance to move forward and heal from centuries of Democrat segregation, hatred and racial divide. It wasn’t just blacks that were lynched, it was Republicans who stepped out to fight and died for a cause.
I believe one of the most embarrassing and racially slanted comments in recent years came from Biden on Obama if a Republican had said this out loud you would have gone crazy with racist accusations: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,”

  • Anonymous

She never said she ‘owned’ them. • kromecom

That’s well articulated. Thank you. But see the definition of racism. You are conflating racism with prejudice. The two are not synonyms.

    1. Racism implies SYSTEMIC OPPRESSION of a minority based on race (i.e., Jim Crow, see Plessy v. Ferguson). It is also marked by a profound belief in racial superiority. Ergo, all racists are prejudiced but not all prejudices are racists.

Can you provide examples of blacks opressing whites via government policies? Can you provide an example of MAINSTREAM black leaders claiming racial superiority? An not the Louis Farakhans, or New Black Panthers. Both far out of the mainstream.

Anything that spotlights this womans egocentric needs, no matter if it doesn’t apply, she will use to draw attention to herself. She is a disgusting excuse for a human being!

  • caconservative

Equal Justice? Your brand of equal justice is forcibly taking from those that work, and giving it to the bottom-feeders.
It’s allot like putting a bird-feeder in your back yard. At first you feel good about helping them out with the free food but then, you start realizing that your back yard is full of birds looking for a free hand out, and if you don’t constantly increase the amount of free food to placate the growing number of free-loaders, and if you don’t,the squawking starts, and then you notice you can’t walk anywhere without stepping in bird-crap!
That is the political platform of Obimbo, his administration, and the Democratic Party in general. In order to stay in power, they will keep putting up more free bird-feeders until the day comes that there are more freeloaders using, than there are people producing. How close to that do you think we are today with 47% feeding off of the other 53%. This isn’t rocket science!!

What about the 99% being screwed by the richest 1%?  I guess that’s equal justice.  What about the billions spent on no-bid contracts to defense corporations like Bell, Lockheed and Textron?  Trotting out the threadbare line that “free loaders” are somehow destroying America completely ignores the other facts of the current recession. (A recession, I might add, that was arguably caused by deregulation.)  Using the old fascist strategy of calling for genocide, whether based on race, health/disability or economic class, is a less-than-constructive approach and it seems the people who call themselves “conservatives” (there’s an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one) need to check their values and intellectual honesty.
