Watch The CNN Republican Debate Live Here

Video

While it may feel like a lifetime, it has been all but about a month since the last time the four remaining (now that Buddy Roemer is running as an independent). Much has happened since then– Rick Santorum winning all three primary states on “mini-Tuesday,” shocking most with his win in Colorado; Newt Gingrich‘s almost complete disappearance from the scene, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul hanging about even.

The debate, hosted in Mesa, Arizona, where there will be a primary next week (on Super Tuesday), is sponsored by CNN and will be moderated by John King. The news cycle it is arriving to is replete with social issues, and Santorum in particular is expected to have to explain some of the comments he made regarding Christianity that have recently surfaced.

    Let the clown show begin….

  • Anonymous

I hope Mitt Romney ‘eats’ them both up!

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

Question: Will Mittens have the courage to go after Newt in a meaningful way??

  • Uaint Down

let’s see newt attack the media again… never mind his dishonest and adulterous past.

  • Anonymous

It appears that this will be another debate where there might as well only be two people on the stage.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Y4XGKI5XDJ3ZAGGZ4SSZC7LFDI CoCowboy69

LMAO – Please… He’s not even a real reporter… He couldn’t go toe to toe with Gingrich in his dreams… but YOU can dream…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Y4XGKI5XDJ3ZAGGZ4SSZC7LFDI CoCowboy69

Mitt O’Robme, governor of the Socialist CommonUNwealth State of Taxachussetts cannot debate… You better pray he drops out for the good of the party…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Y4XGKI5XDJ3ZAGGZ4SSZC7LFDI CoCowboy69

Really? How about O’Robme scrubbing EVERY HARD DRIVE IN HIS ADMIN and SHREDDING EVERY HARD COPY from his admin as his final act before leaving. EVERY FOIA COMES UP EMPTY…

    HMMM… FOOD FOR THOUGHT…

BREAKING: While working for Freddie Mac, Gingrich had an illicit sexual relationship with Fannie Mae.

  • Anonymous

these are the worst questions of any debate.  I wanted to hear more of a debate between Newt and Romney regarding tax structure.  what a huge missed opportunity.   I don’t know if I can watch much more of this Jerry Springer forum.

  • Anonymous

this is really boring and pathetic

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Y4XGKI5XDJ3ZAGGZ4SSZC7LFDI CoCowboy69

Well, BAWNY had an illicit affair with Freddie though… Gingrich walked in on him doin FREDDIE IN THE BACK AND CALLED IT FOR WHAT IT WAS… LIKE SANDUSKY WAS – EXCEPT GINGRICH SAID SOMETHING UNLIKE JOPA AND THE REST… :)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Y4XGKI5XDJ3ZAGGZ4SSZC7LFDI CoCowboy69

Santorum should resign now and know he did a good job. Save the money and back Newt. Ron Paul will waltz all the way to the republican convention no matter what happens… even if he has to crawl. Gutsy ole man. I love him for his courage and message. I just can’t back him because he isn’t electable.

  • Anonymous

what are they 6 years old? this is so embarrassing… i hate american politics

  • Anonymous

Gingrich is too naive if he thinks people will believe that $25k/month he took from Freddie Mac was just for his services as a history teacher. This is preposterous!

To me this “detail” alone is enough to eliminate him entirely from the race.

  • corri anderson

Not even a real reporter.  Now if he worked for Fox….

  • Anonymous

Um, that’s standard practice for governors there. Bring up legitimate arguments. Stop wasting your time with fear tactics.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TWK2YYJTTIDLZIVV7NKZM23Z6Q Tyler

This is the best debate yet. I think Santorum may end up benefiting in the whole Newt/Romney Scrimmage.

  • Anonymous

Brian Williams confirms the stereotype of national media with ability to reveal the real issues.  So is there a guy named Santorum there?  or Rep. Paul?  Gee we didn’t notice

WWCHJD? What Would Crackhead Jesus Do?

  • corri anderson

So Gingrich would send in special ops and overthrow the government.  Good to know.

  • Anonymous

I like Ron Paul a lot. Why can’t he have a more rational foreign policy that takes into account a globalized world with evil dictators who hate everything the US stands for?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PIVRLPQZBVFZ7HGRSUJDVTYOM br

Brian should ask Mitt how he will feel to be the first Mexican president!

Wait till Newt debates obama; you’ll see who eats who!!!!!

Ron Paul sounds subdued and talks as if he already decided to pull out and endorse Gingrich. What a bummer that would be!

because you fool, people don’t hate what we stand for, so long as we’re no blowing up their home lands while we’re taking that stand. Still think the US is hated for it’s freedoms? wow

The biggest bond holder in America said the amount of Knowledge Ron Paul has in his pinky about fixing our economic mess is equivalent to the rest of the candidates on the stage, and Lord knows it’s true.

  • corri anderson

I see they are attempting to appeal to the “if you don’t agree we’ll blow you up” segment of the population.  I guess we can look forward to more shock and awe under a GOP admin.  Gotta appreciate Ron Paul.

  • zach hope

Isn’t electable? do you mean to say not enough people will vote for him? There are thousands of people that think the same thing, which proves he is elctable. RON PAUL 2012

  • Anonymous

Gingrich is starting to look more and more like slick Willy. After so many years as a Washington politician he lies so easily.

    He better take big bites…

I guarantee you, if Ron Paul became Pres. Paul, and he slashed our military budget, and brought all of our troops home like he says we should do, we would be attacked on our homeland within a year. His foreign policy is extremely naive. Need a history lesson about our isolationist policy before the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XQDNT2AO2SB63EHFTKN4JDLANU Andrew

Your WRONG!!! whats been going on in the middle east has been going on for over thousands of years!  50 years ago no one had hate against the US.   We waved our flag high in fields of destruction.  If there is anyone Iran would attack it’s Israel.  Even that they won’t.  There surrounded by our allies.. before a nuke got a mile high we would already have put 3 in there town square. Our army is 25 times there’s.  THEY DON’T WANT TO DIE THEY’RE JUST ARROGANT AND OUR FEAR WILL DESTROY US.

  • Anonymous

Gingrich was so vigorously anti-Spanish and now tones it down. Ah that morale…

Santorum thing is completely crazy and misinformed. He completely misunderstood who is who in and about Iran.

You are an idiot.  Ron Paul wants more bases at home.  Even if the military 10 year cut happened all at once.  Our military is still 7 times chinas.   You are the kind of idiot who does not do research and puts people like obama in office.. so now who would attack us? btw we have more nukes times 3 than the rest of the world together, and we don’t make cuts on those.

  • mherron111

What did Ron Paul say about missles in Cuba in 1962,the people he wants to be friends with aimed nucular missle at the U.S in 1962 until JFK made a stance and Russia ended up taking their missles out.Ron Paul would allow Russia to put missles in Cuba, maybe Iran will place missles in Cuba and S.America.World War 11 America was attacked before we declared war, prior to being attacked our government did what Paul says he would do.Don’t get involved unless where attacked first, and then you go to war. What stopped the spread of communism and Russia invading Germany, and controlling all of Europe,N. korea invading S.Korea, vietnam,Cuba,Grenada and other countries. It was having foreign military bases in countries around the world,so if that countries was attacked, we have troops able to fight until they get help.Mr.Paul,sorry.Your foreign policy sucks and it puts us in danger.

You are a fool.  Our military is 7 times the leading in the world even after our cuts. We have 3 times more nukes than the rest of the world combined.  So answer the question uneducated one..  who would attack us again?  and for what reason?

The panel is strategically setting up Ron Paul to be ignored. He’s last in the series, he is asked fewer questions, and his answers are immediately followed by eyes drawn down- and on to the next question for Santorum. It’s an old fave technique of the ‘fair and balanced’ media.

Get an education on history first..  second Ron Paul always aims for diplomacy first as is in our constitution.  We are not the policemen of the world and if you think so you should vote for mitt Romney.  Who said in quote he would put 100,000 troops in iraq.  He’s out of his mind and so is Gingrich.  Santorum is so liberal i don’t know how’s he’s on that stage.  Then again so is Romney.. and Gingrich with amnesty trying to win latino votes..  pitiful.   You think you can write a better law for a free market than Thomas Jeffereson?  Be my guest.

You wont hear much more then rhetoric about campaign reform from either side because both sides benefit from it. I know the Republicans typically take the big hit on the subject. but the fact of the matter is the Democrats. Like with so many other issues. Are no better.
Consider this. For all the moaning and groaning the Democrats do on a variety of issues. When they had the power to make ALL the changes they stumped on. They were mysteriously silent.
Same held true for the republicans on alot of their issues when they had all the power.

the media has decided Romney should win the candidacy just as they decided Obama should win the candidacy. And then the general election by practically practicing self gratification techniques over his every word.

They are tolerating Newt because he makes for good entertainment and ratings. and at worst a Newt presidency would make for great press coverage.
But in the end it wouldnt surprise me to see them turn on Newt in favor of Romney because he is the guy they want to run against Obama.

It just ticks me off how they nearly ignore any other options giving only gratuitous coverage in favor of the what can only be described as political monopolies. If the two parties were companies. the federal government would move to split them up under anti trust laws as not only do they distort commerce. But have also distorted out government

Expand that hoaky stick graph at that only shows a very small snippit of climate history and you will see we are right on schedule

I dont doubt that the globe may indeed be warming. As I said we are right on schedule. What is in doubt is how much of an effect humans are having on it.

As far as he science is concerned. Scientists cant predict your local weather accurately for more then a week at a time. You really think they can predict the weather for the next 100 years?

FDR did everything within his power to provoke an attack that would draw us into WWII. We had been in war preparations for several years leading up to the attack.  FDR knew that his embargo’s against Japan would force them to attack, he had held meetings where his military advisers had cautioned him against making these moves..  There is substantial evidence that FDR had intercepted Japanese transmissions and knew that there would be an attack on December 7th on the Pacific Fleet and that the most likely target would be Pearl Harbor.  3 out of 4 Americans did not want to fight another war abroad prior to the attack, FDR was committed to this war and looking for a way in…   A different way at looking at WWII is that it was never a given that Germany was going to win the war in Europe as Russia was a formidable problem for Hitler…  Secondly, as a result of that war we turned over Eastern Europe to Stalin, probably an even greater monster than was Hitler, Stalin was certainly responsible for greater genocide than was Hitler and we spent the next 50 years fighting the cold war with a country that we empowered specifically by the American positions towards the occupations after the war.

Here is a link where you can find a couple of important books written on Pearl Harbor if you are interested in our history, I will caution you that the more you learn of our history the more you will understand and support Ron Paul… there are two books on that page that can be downloaded for free.  ”Peal Harbor, The Story of the Secret War” by George Morgenstern, and Pearl Harbor, The Seeds and Fruits of Infamy” by Percy L Greaves, Greaves was the lead investigator for the republican side of the congressional commission which held hearing and investigated the attack on Pearl Harbor on behalf of congress and prior to his death was one of the leading authorities on the events of Pearl Harbor.

I like many of Ron’s ideas and fundamental approach to government, but do you really think you can just talk to everyone to get them to go your way?  My experience says no, if they either lie to you when you talk to them, or they slam the door in your face and basically say “I will not comply with your request”.  I think we should talk to them as Ronald Reagan did; with plenty of fire power to let them know they trifle with our words at their own peril.

It was even worse on Fox in South Carolina. In a 2-hour debate, the entire first hour was spent on Romney addressing ads from other candidates. Also, Ron Paul’s wife, in a video on YouTube, stated that they could not get any tickets for their supporters to the debates. NO RON PAUL SUPPORTERS ALLOWED. Given Paul’s stellar economic policy platform, were his foreign policy more cogent, credible, I could easily and unabashedly vote for him.  And I’m sure many others would feel the same way. But, alas, for me the only logical choice is Mr. Gingrich.

  • rdr

Ron Paul is a Solid supporter of the Constitution and of the Rights of the fine citizens of this Great Nation, and has the record to prove it.  Please vote for Real Change in the direction Best for this country,Strong National Defense, Smaller Government, Balanced budget, Real Job creation, and Sound money ( unless you are ready to have China run our economy, Obama has done his best to sell us to them )  VOTE RON PAUL…. we don’t have time for anymore playing around in Washington DC and the selling off of our country.

  • rdr

As you travel the World and get to know the citizens of different country you find out that they just really want to enjoy their lives as we do and the ‘Politics’ of their countries have brought problems to them also, like us, in their daily lives. The Media loves to ‘play up’ what they want to support their political ideas in this country. Using scare tactics to try and justify policing other countries is expensive and wrong.  A strong Defense ( speak softly and carry a big stick ! ) and staying out of other peoples business is a great place to start. Our family travels extensively and find Americans are generally liked, it is the Politics here that they dislike.  Let us live by example, Liberty and Freedom.  Vote for the Best Leader for this Nation- Vote Ron Paul 2012

  • rdr

He will slash the military that is true BUT NOT the Defense !  Two very different things ….If you think for one minute that the USA does not have the means to take out any enemy in the blink of an eye you do not understand the strength of our Defense System.  Some members of my family have been involved in the Defense / Military of this country for 3 generations – If we are spread out thinly all over the World How well do you think we can defend ourselves ? Have you ever heard of : “ Divide and Concur ” Our enemies Love us spread out and Deep in Dept”. China is just waiting to dump our dollar and Obama is setting us up for that to happen. If we do not get out of dept the US dollar will no longer be the international currency-  Wake up America.  Ron Paul 2012

When you hear Romney talk about

is reasons why we need change in the tax code so that he and people like him are
filing taxes just like everyone else and doesn’t have to be making all this
effort to Hide his success and instead wants to put it to work and people to
work with it . A Flat tax also will take away the Obama Class warfare tactic
that is stalling out Economic recovery today .

I hope CNN takes their cue from NBC last night – and asks for NO audience participation during the debate.  After all, this is not a pep rally nor is it “The Jerry Springer Show”.  It is a debate.  Please conduct it as such.  Thank you.

Are you saying people can buy your vote?  Not me.

Gee, I hope that Brian Williams makes that same demand on the Congress at tonight’s State of the Union speech.  Wow!  No clapping or cheering! That should cut the speech down to about fifteen minutes.

    Remember this Obama promise?

“Yesterday, I held a fiscal summit where I pledged to cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term in office.”

If you don’t recall that “pledge,” no worries: Neither does the Obama
administration. After all, this was a statement made in none other than
Barack’s first State of the Union address. That means, according to the
Associated Press, the deficit should be nearing the $500 billion mark by
now. Instead, the deficit is expected to hit another $1.2 trillion in
    2012.

Not that we’re surprised by this outcome, of course. Only in the liberal
world do you tackle reckless government spending by… adding more
reckless government spending to the books. In a nutshell, the Democratic
Party has overseen the three largest budget deficits in U.S. history
and, overall, the country is set to face deficits with multiple zeroes
for four years in a row.

But I’m sure that red ink was all George W. Bush’s fault. Along with the Japanese earthquake, naturally.

And then there’s this doozy from Obama’s first State of the Union
speech: “My administration has also begun to go line by line through the
federal budget in order to eliminate wasteful and ineffective
programs.” Somehow the $500 million Solyndra boondoggle slipped through
    the bureaucratic cracks, huh?

Bottom line: Whatever Obama serves up tonight in what we’re hoping is
his last State of the Union address, it will be talk… and more talk.
That’s it. He doesn’t want to work with Republicans in Congress. And
Republicans shouldn’t want to work with him, as we have someone in the
Oval Office who doesn’t know how to be a proper steward of taxpayer
money. So whatever words appear on the teleprompter tonight and come
forth, Republicans should compare and contrast (publicly and loudly) the

President’s past promises to what has happened in reality.

Gingrich has no chance of being elected, nor does Santorum. I hate Romney, but I’d vote for him over these two jokers. Ultimately, I wan’t Ron Paul and unless one of the other three makes extraordinary in winning me over, I will write him in or vote for Gary Johnson. A big government Republican is not very much better than a big government Democrat.

No.  The biggest US bond holder said that..  The fact of the matter also is that Ron Paul has more global appeal than any other candidate.

THIS IS PATHETIC.  IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE A POLITICAL DEBATE!!  INSTEAD ROMNEY & GINGRICH SOUND LIKE THEY ARE ON TRIAL AND ARE TRYING TO PLEAD THEIR CASE AGAINST ONE ANOTHER.    SHAME ON ALL INVOLVED IN THE “DEBATE” FIASCO!!!!!!

Can a President “repeal” legislation on his or her own or would they need a vote in congress?

Ron Paul has a lot of spunk, vitality, and interesting ideas, but it is too bad he is also a little racist and completely discriminates against the day community.

Question for the candidates.  France pays less than half per capita for health care than the US yet French people live longer than Americans. Why is that the case?

Santorum sounds like he wants to get offstage and hug himself.
