Kirstjen Nielsen Takes High Road in Addressing Media For First Time Since Ouster: ‘I Want to Thank the President’
Outgoing DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen spoke publically for the first time since she was ousted from the Trump administration on Sunday. Nielsen met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Sunday and reportedly brought her own resignation letter to the meeting, to only learn that she was out via a Trump tweet.
Nielsen addressed the media outside her Alexandria, Virginia home, the feed of which was taken live by all cable networks, and only made a relatively brief and extemporaneous statement in which she thanked the president for the opportunity.
She then outlined how she is helping ensure a smooth transition for the new Acting Secretary of the DHS Kevin McAleenan before stating “I share the president’s goal of securing the border” and “I will continue to support all efforts to address the humanitarian and security crisis on the border.”
No drama. Class act.
