Rep. Mucarsel-Powell: Trump Laughing About Shooting Immigrants Is ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Completely Wrong’

Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell appeared on CNN New Day Thursday morning and was asked about a curious moment that occurred in her home state of Florida Wednesday evening.

During another “Make America Great Again” rally held in the Florida panhandle, President Donald Trump lamented the lack of options at his avail to stem the growing tide of illegal migrants encroaching the Southern U.S. border.

After he rhetorically asked what could he do about the growing problem, a rally attendee shouted “shoot them” which was received by laughter from both the commander in chief and the audience of his supporters. Trump replied to the unplanned outburst by saying “That’s only in the panhandle you could get away with that statement.”

Host So someone in the crowd made a joke about shooting migrants, the president laughed it off and said only in the panhandle. Your reaction? asked Mucarsel-Powell “So someone in the crowd made a joke about shooting migrants, the president laughed it off and said only in the panhandle. Your reaction?”

The Democratic House Representative did not demur in her reply, saying “John, this is dangerous, okay? I am an immigrant, I came here from Ecuador. The rhetoric of attacking immigrants, criminalizing them, saying that we are criminals is just completely wrong.”
