White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will meet the press corps in a briefing set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
What will be on today’s docket? Sanders will likely frame the government reopening as a huge win for President Donald Trump and the GOP’s plan for immigration reform, dinging Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in the process.
There’s also the matter of DACA and the ultimate fate of the millions of DREAMers — with the two parties having to work together to iron out a deal before the March deadline. One would assume that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) handed out some promises in order to sway Democrats to vote to end the shutdown so quickly. Sanders will likely be asked details of those closed door meetings.
Trump will also shortly head to Davos, Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum. First Lady Melania Trump, quite suddenly, backed out of this trip. A reporter or two could go down that well, in an attempt to tie the First Lady’s decision to the Stormy Daniels story — which continues to gather steam.
On the policy front, all signs indicate that the White House will attempt to tackle infrastructure at some point in the near future, with Axios managing to get their hands on a draft of the Trump administration’s plan to repair the nation’s roads, bridges and tunnels.
