Cruz on Trump’s Eligibility Threat: If He Wants to File ‘Frivilous’ Lawsuit, He Can
Speaking on conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt‘s show, Ted Cruz responded to the looming threat from Donald Trump, saying that mogul could file a frivolous lawsuit challenging his eligibility if he wanted to — but that Trump’s tactic was deliberately evasive and was intended to steal focus away from his shortcomings as a Republican candidate.
Hewitt averred that Cruz was a “natural born citizen” in his view, “but I do believe he might have standing the bring that lawsuit,” he asked the senator if he agreed.
Cruz characterized Trump’s threat of litigation as another aversion tactic to avoid dealing with challenges to his record. Trump “uses lawsuits to try to intimidate people and try to attack people,” Cruz said. “If he wants to file a frivolous lawsuit, he can file a frivolous lawsuit.”
Trump told reporters Monday that he would file a lawsuit against Cruz, challenging his eligibility to run for president, unless he apologized for ads attacking the mogul’s conservative record and character.
