As the reality of a Donald Trump nomination gets close enough for people to say “That’s no moon, it’s a space station,” the media must dig deeper and deeper into the billionaire candidate’s past to try and find something, anything, that might put a dent in him.
And so it is that The Daily Show finds itself mining a 1999 New York Times article for a segment on Trump’s disdain for the poor and working class people who flock to Trump rallies, and are propelling him to victory after victory.
At least host Trevor Noah has the right perspective on this sort of thing, and knows it won’t change anyone’s mind. “We just wanted to bring it to your attention because once Trump is president, this segment will become illegal,” he explains.
