‘Enthusiasm For Clinton Has Ebbed’: Newest National Poll Shows Trump Up by 1 Point
According to the newest polling data from ABC News and the Washington Post, the FBI’s renewed calls to look into Hillary Clinton‘s use of a private email server has appeared to spook some supporters.
“Strong enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton has ebbed,” since James Comey‘s letter on Friday to lawmakers according to ABC, noting that the former Secretary of State is now trailing her Republican rival Donald Trump by a single point nationally just one week before election day.
The poll, produced by Langer Research Associates, polled likely voters and found that 46% support Trump as opposed to 45% for Clinton. Libertarian party candidate Gary Johnson and Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party are polling at 3% and 2% respectively in the same poll. Johnson’s 3% is his lowest support threshold yet.
Among voters who say that they are “very enthusiastic” about their choices, both candidates are still facing historic lows. It is a metric however that favors Trump slightly, with 53 percent of the GOP candidate’s supporters falling into that category as opposed to just 45% for Clinton. ABC News notes that the 1 point gulf falls “well within the survey’s margin of sampling error.” Regardless, this is the first time that Clinton has trailed Trump since late May.
