CNN’s Smerconish: Elizabeth Warren Can Reach Trump Supporters Open to Some of Her Ideas If She Goes on Fox News

CNN’s Michael Smerconish took issue this morning with Senator Elizabeth Warren not doing a town hall on Fox News because of how it would help the network’s “hate-for-profit racket.”

Smerconish opened by talking about a recent dining experience when he sat in the “Fox News room”––different rooms had specific channels playing––and asking if Warren’s move is “politically wise.”

Other Democrats have either already done Fox News down halls or have agreed to ones in the near future. Pete Buttigieg has a Fox town hall scheduled for Sunday night).

Smerconish said while this may help distinguish Warren, it “underscores this issue where going on Fox News, the Democrats do give cover to advertisers who otherwise might not be inclined to spend any money there.”

But he thinks there’s a big downside too:

“If she never goes on the network, its viewers will never hear what she’s got to say. And if she’s successful and she’s able to break away from the pack and win the nomination, well, in order to actually be elected president, she’s going to need some of those diners who are eating hot dogs in the Varsity Fox News room, who it turns out are actually open to several of her proposals.”

He brought up a recent report on the popularity of some of Warren’s ideas among Trump supporters before concluding, “If she doesn’t tout these ideas on Fox, those voters may never hear them.”
