Jim Acosta Incorrectly Mocks ‘Socialist’ Question Asked by Daily Caller Reporter: He ‘Served Up a Softball’
CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta openly mocked the questions asked by The Daily Caller’s Saagar Enjeti to President Donald Trump during a joint press conference with Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro.
Representing the very Trump-friendly outlet, Enjeti addressed Bolsonaro by first declaring that “a number of Democrats who are running to replace the president have embraced socialist ideas,” followed by asking, “If a candidate who embraced socialism were to replace the president, how would it affect your relations with the United States?”
Bolsonaro answered in a rather predictable manner, but the question appeared to better suited for a segment on Hannity or Trump campaign event.
This is the point Acosta made to CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin, noting that the Trump campaign plans to “to hit the Democrats over the head with this idea that they’re socialist from now until the 2020 election.”
Acosta continued “you heard the president start his remarks at this joint news conference in that fashion and then he was asked that question by a reporter with the Daily Caller right at the very end.”
He then mocked the question noting that it “was asked in a way that really teed it up like a game of tee ball here in the Rose Garden. The president was just sort of served up a softball there when he was asked whether or not the Democrats are advancing a lot of socialist ideas.”
Acosta incorrectly noted that the question was asked of Trump, which was quickly pointed out on Twitter by Enjeti’s colleague Amber Athey:
Hey @Acosta, if you’re going to attack my colleague, perhaps you could take the time to characterize his question correctly? He asked if Bolsonaro’s relationship with the U.S. would be affected if we elected a socialistic president. Thank u, next. https://t.co/WeJhnRdJp4
