Nick Carter, former member of the Backstreet Boys and television host, has been accused of rape by a singer and actress who claims he assaulted her when she was just 18.
The assault is alleged to have occurred in 2002, when Melissa Schuman, formerly of girl group Dream, was 18-years-old. She detailed the horrific encounter in detail on her personal blog, describing a night when she got trapped in an apartment bathroom with Carter, after he called her over for a “casual hang.”

The duo began kissing and Carter began to unbutton her pants, according to Schuman, who noted she was a virgin at the time of the alleged assault.
“I told him to stop, but he didn’t. So I turned off the bathroom light so I wouldn’t see anything. He kept turning the light back on because he told me he wanted to look at me,” she wrote, saying that he repeatedly tried to force her to perform oral sex before dragging her into a bedroom and climbing on top of her. “I felt scared and trapped. He was visually and clearly growing very angry and impatient with me. I couldn’t leave.”
“I told him that I was a virgin and I didn’t want to have sex. I told him that I was saving myself for my future husband. I said it over and over again.”
Schuman said that Carter, however, did not stop, whispering “I could be your husband” before engaging in nonconsensual intercourse.
“He was heavy, too heavy to get out from under him. Then I felt it, he put something inside of me. I asked him what it was and he whispered in my ear once more, ‘it’s all me baby,'” she continued.
Schuman told her manager what happened and suggested that she wanted to press charges, but her representative told her to keep quiet, noting that going public could have career-ending implications, alluding to the fact that Carter “had the most powerful litigator in the country.”
After the alleged assault, Carter began calling Schuman over and over, leaving voicemail after voicemail, including some that were “nasty” and “angry,” according to the accuser.
Carter has released a statement, in which he denied the allegation, called their sex act consensual and noted how long it took Schuman to issue the accusation. Why, that’s the Roy Moore trifecta.
“I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations. Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual,” he wrote. “This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”
A recent report by Radar Online detailed a 2006 investigation into Carter, in which a 20-year-old fan accused him of forcing her to perform oral sex on him at a house party. He was also accused of beating then-girlfriend Paris Hilton in 2004.
Carter went on to have a bright post-music career, getting his own reality show and appearing on Dancing with the Stars.
