SNL’s Pete Davidson Gets Booed For Comparing Catholic Church to ‘Monster’ R. Kelly
Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson went there on the latest Weekend Update, comparing R. Kelly fans to supporters of the Catholic church.
“Before I continue, like this guy is a monster,” Davidson said referring to Kelly. “And he should go to jail forever.”
Then he said this, drawing an audible reaction and some groans from the audience: “But if you support the Catholic church, isn’t that like the same thing as being an R. Kelly fan?”
Davidson further added: “I don’t really see the difference, only, like, one’s music is significantly better. No, just the other day my mom was like, ‘I’m going to mass.’ And I was like, Okay, I’m going to go listen to the Ignition remix.'”
A little later on Davidson — who had said R. Kelly and Michael Jackson made great music — suggested “pretending these people [who did bad things] never existed is maybe not the solution.”
He then proposed, “the rule should be that you can appreciate their work but only if you admit what they did.”
At the end of the segment, Davidson also talked about his relationship with Kate Beckinsale, defending their age gap by rattling off a list of famous guys who dated younger partners.
